What our customers say about their holidays
Diane - Verified booking
The accommodation was immaculate with quality furnishings and housewares, and top notch bathroom fittings and underfloor heating.
Good job we brought our own garden chairs as the ones provided had never seen wood preserver since their construction so didnât want to risk any accidental damage. The garden itself was well-appointed if a little breezy which was ideal being way up on a hill overlooking the shingle beach. The road was much busier during our stay due to the fact that we did not receive updated information about main road closures from Totnes which made our journey two hours longer having to go via Plymouth then back up towards Kingsbridge. The closures were permanent for three weeks and our week was in the middle week. So we went as far as Salcombe and Kingsbridge going west and Dartmouth going east. Was hoping to meet relatives in Paignton but because of the key road closures it would have cost far too much to get the park and ride in Dartmouth then take the ferry and steam train to Paignton with the last train coming back around 4 oâclock, than going the long way round by car. The closure of an important main road was unfortunate and unavoidable but it would have been really helpful to have had some guidance instead of the usual road directions supplied in the email. We asked for help as we approached the surprise road closure sign but the exceedingly unpleasant garage assistant was quite rude and surly, making no eye contact and snarled at us, even though I bought petrol from her. The break itself was well enjoyed and the highlights included sitting on the very quiet beach at Strete, under perfect skies with the gentle sound of the waves lapping against the shingles. The pace was relaxed as an antidote to stress at work and we were also welcomed by a pint of milk thoughtfully left in the fridge. The log stove must be a source of comfort during the cold weather but we didnât use it, although logs and kindling were provided. The log stove is located at the opposite end of the room to the comfy seats and tv but would appeal to those wanting a fire in winter. The central heating system was excellent and we used it chiefly for an hour or so in the evening The bedrooms are a bit confined for space but this didnât impede any enjoyment and comfort. Slept very well on a comfortable bed with quality bed linen as well as the provision of thick fluffy towels. All in all I would recommend staying here if you want peace and quiet and are willing to travel to Kingsbridge or Dartmouth for quality restaurants. There are a few recommendations from other people who have stayed in the Coach House but alas the roads were closed to them. Be prepared to pay £28 for a basic fish and veg dish, £11 - £16 for luscious fish and chips (Codfather in Kingsbridge and the Wheel House in Dartmouth) and £18 for a burger, £3.80 for a single cone ice cream (recommend Salcombe dairy ice cream especially the chocolate honeycomb). Suitable for a couple or a couple and one other person.

Beautifully appointed cottage Quality fixtures, fittings and interior design Lovely extra thoughtful touches such as washing machine tablets, dish washing tablets, tea/coffee & sugar provided.
The upstairs living area is fantastic, gorgeous kitchen, good dining area & very comfy lounge area making good use of the stunning views, even though the property stands on the costal âA roadâ at night there is so little noise and you can hear the sea. Everything you possibly need & plenty of kitchen storage cupboards if you like cooking/eating in. (Which we do) the fridge is just an under counter one with only a small ice box so if you have done a full weeks/big shop (which we had) & want to have drinks in the fridge itâs quite a squash but we kept a cool box on the go by rotating freezer blocks & kept drinks in there so easily managed. The Garden is very private & beautifully maintained & a lovely place to sit in the late afternoon sun (slightly dabbled due to trees) The only reason given 4 stars & not 5 for comfort is the size of the goths floor, specifically the double bedroom. It does explain in the description that the bed is a recess but hadnât appreciated quite how small it was with no room for bedside table/draws â¦â¦there is a very small thin table at one side & a very small corner shelf on the wall and then only a tiny closet for hanging a few clothes, there are no drawers at all. It is however decorated beautifully & has a wonderful/pretty full length window so very pretty. We didnât have a 3rd person so we were able to use the chest & closet in the single bedroom, which was also very pretty. The bathroom is stunning & has a really good sized separate shower and a small stand alone bath. There is a good sized separate WC and wash basin, with a washing machine under the stair recess. Getting in & out of the property with the car (despite it being straight onto the A379) is easy due to the way the drive (that also serves the main house) has been configured if you manoeuvre it correctly, you can see on coming traffic whichever way you are going. Great central location for visiting/exploring the Start Bay Area, Kingsbridge & Dartmouth areas. We also thought weâd feel frustrated not being able to just walk down to Strete Gate beach across the field & below the property (no public path & you would not want to walk/cross the A379) however soon realised that we werenât missing out (it would have been a hard steel climb back up) itâs a 2 minute drive down & no hassle at all, plenty of parking spaces & the parking is only £1 per hour. Overall this property is stunning & the only compromise is the bedroom space. We had a fabulous week despite mixed weather.

We had a wonderful stay at the coach house.
There were a few possibilities for improvement (see below) but none of these detracted significantly enough from the stay for us to rate any less than 5 star! Would definitely stay here again and highly recommend Positive - lovely little property with a calming interior and beautiful views and very close to Strete Gate Beach (2 min drive) - 15 min drive from Dartmouth town - mostly clean - well stocked kitchen - matches, salt, pepper, coffee, tea, sugar and milk provided - plenty of dishwasher tabs provided. One washing machine tab provided. Also handy that there is a clothes dryer that we could use! - kitchen roll provided - tea towels provided (ignore Sykes cottages on this one!) - great garden space! Well kempt and beautiful - our daughter loved running around the space! - clever use of some space down stairs e.g coat rack and washing machine in toilet room! So whilst it is small, they have made good use of the space (just low on storage - see below( - random, but I love the seashell handle on the upstairs cupboard! Sweet little touch /. - Patrick responded helpfully and when a couple of items broke (not our fault) he kindly said he would fix Negative: - small fridge - but we made it work so it's not awful. Small freezer compartment was handy also - cobwebs on bed. And quite a few spiders/daddy long legs around! - lack of adequate storage space in bedrooms - not a lot can be done about this but helpful to make people aware - it would be helpful to have a safety mirror across road as it can be quite tricky coming out of the driveway, particularly when turning right Personal choices that would have made it a bit better - but I totally understand these are not everyone's requirements (I'm also writing this here so others know what they might need to pack!): - provide oil & butter - extra towels. I need one for body and one for hair - the hand towel just doesn't cut it for my hair - not enough toilet roll for 2 days - not sure if they are meant to provide but obviously this would be helpful - smal bowls (for snacks) and a bottle stopper (for fizz). Realise most people will not care about this, just would have been helpful for us and possibly some others? - Ice cube tray would have been nice Be aware, smoke alarm goes off if you have shower & door is open! Overall, this was a fantastic, truly memorable stay and we would encourage you to book if you are considering it!!

The cottage is set in a pretty garden with fabulous views.
The upstairs living room is well set out. The kitchen area has plenty of cutlery, crockery and pans. The fridge is a standard under the counter size with a small freezer box. The only thing missing appears to be a serated bread knife, the delicious local sourdough bread was a bit of a challenge to cut with the knives available. And the salt grinder was empty. The back right hand hob control is a little loose and the temperature is therefore a bit vague. There are no instructions for the oven which took a bit of trail and error before I got it working correctly. The two bedrooms are small but adequate. The bedding is of high quality, the duvets are lovely and warm. The shower is excellent and towels soft. The whole cottage has been furnished to a high standard with comfortable sofa, chairs and beds. The driveway is shared by two other properties. It is a bit awkward to drive into the parking space so may take a couple of manoeuvres. Exiting the property in either direction must be taken with care as there is a wall which restricts the road view slightly. I had looked at google maps before our visit and found excellent road views from Strete of the siting of the cottage. We took the road from Halwell direct to Dartmouth and then down the A379 to Strete, which we found to be a slightly better route for us, with a few single track squeeze points, even though it was longer than the directions given. There was only one thing we found not pleasant about the cottage. The were several reed scent diffusers in the cottage which were quite strong scented. These we had to put away in a cupboard as they made us cough. However, the smell of cold damp was obvious in the single bedroom without the diffuser. So we put one in the bedroom in the day when we were out, and removed it on our return. I appreciate that this is an old stone property and everything has been done to make the cottage as warm and comfortable as possible, but a previous reviewer had also mentioned the damp smell. This might be because in the colder months windows are not opened and the cottage is shaded by large trees.I would still recommend the cottage as it is a lovely property but maybe better in the warmer weather next time.

Itâs always sad to give negative feedback but we felt it is needed due to the high price of the accommodation, in comparison to other properties in the area for this time of year- new years period.
The Coach House is lovely but very tired and in need of some love and care and attention. It was advertised: âExceptionally well refurbished, it is romantic and elegant. Very special place to stayâ In reality this was not the case. Please find constructive feedback below: - Arrived in darkness as the outside lights were not on / operable. Not a good welcome. - Key safe not secured and opened without the use of the code. - Mystery PJs left on back of bathroom door which at first look unnerved us thinking the place had not been made ready to occupy. - kettle did not work effectively due to element is on its way out. - on first view at night, every room looked nice and as presented in the pictures of the property. In daylight however, it became apparent that there was a lack attention to detail in regards to cleaning. I.e layer of dust behind beds, behind and under the bath, lamp shades had cobwebs. -Evidence of damp and mould was present by smell and visual in bathroom and main bedroom. -Towels and bed linen were not of a high quality, especially the bedding as it did not fit the mattress and had to be refitted every day.Towels were worn and harsh on use and all was very disappointing considering the expense related to the booking. Location is amazing, sea views and local amenities was fabulous. Overall, a very disappointing stay as we feel it was not value for money. We would have expected for a romantic break, a welcome pack / hamper of local produce as opposed to a Sainsburyâs Christmas pudding and mince pies and a net of cheap chocolate Brussels sprouts. Photographs can be sent to support.
