What our customers say about their holidays

Really nice place to stay.
Right in the centre of everything from walking / driving distance. The apartment was clean and tidy upon arrival and instructions how to collect the keys from the apartment prior to arrival was very clear. The apartment has the basic things you need for your stay. To access the apartment you need to go up around 30 steps so if you have walking difficultyâs or mobility issues I would check this prior to booking. Salt , pepper , oil , hand soap , washing up liquid , cloths , tea towels and limited dishwasher tablets was also provided what we was unaware off. Also a welcome box with tea bags / coffee / biscuits / sugar / milk sticks was in the apartment kitchen , this was a unexpected nice touch. The allocated parking spot was available the whole time we arrived although upon check out there was a car blocking us in behind our car , but lucky we could get out from a tight squeeze down the other parking space next to it as there was not a car there. If there was we would have not been able to get out. The night before the same car was also blocking us in but by time we went out late afternoon it was gone so had no issue getting out. The only thing I would say and it has been mentioned on another review is maybe a welcome pack , as we was not sure where to put the rubbish and instructions on the Wi-Fi code and maybe how to use the hive and what to do with used towels / if we was required to strip the bedding etc. Overall though it was a lovely stay and would definitely recommend Windermere Crescent , brilliant for small familyâs or a couple.

When we arrived inside of the apartment we found a wasp nest on the floor with wasp all over the apartment.
There was a door in the roof opened and from there they entered. There was no broom and nothing to clean. We reported to Sykes cottages with calls and sending photos; Sykes did not do anything. Every time we called it was a different person and not aware of the problem. A second agency appeared (another property manager and owner of several cottages) who sent messages (inefficient and âjust from the deskâ) but not a person to clean the apartment. According to them, Sykes did not provide the accurate information related that the wasp nest was inside of the apartment. Nontheless they never called and just limited to send messages not resolving the situation. It was until Thursday (that luckily we were there and not out in a trekking) someone came to clean it. One day before our departure, 6 days after we first called and complained !!! The most important learning for us: never rent a house from an agency or not the direct owner, since they will not care and you will be meeting âjust employeesâ answering mails and calls not willing to resolve a problem to the end as an owner will be doing. Definitely Airbnb is a better option. You have the owner interested in having a good rating and therefore resolving the problems !

Very clean accommodation.
Well stocked kitchen, there was even a cafetiere. Plenty of room in the bedrooms and well laid out. The table was big enough for family meals, playing games etc. Excellent outside areas including picnic benches, ideal for the children to play games, run off energy etc all within a very safe compound. Nice and quiet. The only minor drawbacks for me, which didn't spoil the holiday were, the access to the lake (or lack of) No freezer compartment in my fridge and the seating consisted of 2 x 2 seater settees. These were only an issue because i had recently had surgery on my leg and needed to use walking sticks to move. The access to the lake involved climbing over a fallen tree (impossible for me). I needed to ice my leg every 2 hours so i had to walk to the communal freezers to get my ice. This would have been easier with a freezer box in my fridge. Finally i couldn't get comfy on the settees because i had to have my leg elevated and i couldn't do this on the 2 seaters. Having said this, these are only minor complaints that affected me and they wouldn't affect most people. I would highly recommend staying in any of the cottages in this very safe area.

We had a wonderful weekend at Rowan in December.
.. It felt like being in the Swiss Alps (minus the snow). The only issue we had was the lack of water... We searched everywhere for a switch or stop tap and couldn't find any mention in the welcome pack. It took 3 phonecalls out on different numbers and two calls back to get answer 1 (switch looks like a shaver socket in the bathroom)... Great !.... But then water only dribbled out of the cold tap. Other phonecalls followed but luckily one of our party found the stopcock very low down in the bathroom cupboard which solved the issue. Ironically an hour later we found the instruction sheet for the water tucked away in the bookshelf. So... A small issue became a little bit of a frustration. Suggest if water is to be turned off each time, maybe pinning the sheet to the wall? The confusion of numbers in the welcome pack didn't help... Lake holidays, Dean something, site team, after hours team, owner... All confusing and passing the issue on (although very pleasant and efficient with it)... All sorted within an hour and didn't distract from a fabulous trip in a fabulous area.. We even found the second pub which we had no idea existed !

Very well presented, well equipped little cottage in the Grizedale Forest.
Larger than expected so plenty of space for 2 adults and 2 medium dogs. Kitchen has everything you need (apart from an ice box as the per the listing but that wasn't really an issue - just an observation) - plenty of crockery, cutlery, cookware, etc ; toaster, kettle, microwave, dishwasher and washer dryer. Bathroom has a lovely shower but the bath isn't really usable as such due to the size and shape. We only used the master bedroom which has a very firm bed and pillows. Hard floors throughout which is ideal with dogs as we could but our throws down to catch muddy/wet feet and run Henry and a mop around each day to keep clean. Loads of walking on the doorstep - you can follow footpaths out to Lakeside, the East side of Coniston and around Grizedale and Furness. Bardsea Beach, Newby Bridge, Ambleside, Hawkshead, Tarn Hows and Coniston all within 30 minutes drive. Points to note : - the stairs are steep, narrow and painted so non-slip footwear is a good idea - there are no local shops (if you need milk, bread, veggies, etc) so take all you need or stock up on your travels
