What our customers say about their holidays

Whilst the bungalow was situated in a lovely position overlooking the water and mountains the road up to the property was in a word terrible.
We were lucky a neighbour kindly took the blue bin down this terrible drive for emptying however the green bin was full to capacity when we arrived, One bedroom had a very low bed which is totally unsuitable for elder visitors and by the end of the week we were really struggling. Whilst the place looked clean it was obvious to us areas were missed the bathroom skirting board was black by the bath and pictures and door frames had dust. When we opened the French doors in the kitchen diner the inner frames were full of dust and dead insects. We very much enjoyed the scenery however the village is isolated and the pub closed however there is a shop close by and a chemist shop. Would l stay again no l don't think so we left the property clean and tidy the beds stripped and taken to the laundry room. Whilst I would love to give a better review l have to be honest in my findings.

The pictures don't do it justice.
It has a wonderful setting just on the edge of Bonar Bridge, overlooking the Dornoch Firth / Kyle of Sutherland. Loads of room, lots of space outside in the garden / patio. Piano. Smart TV. Kitchen very spacious and well appointed - lots of utensils, plates and glasses etc. Dishwasher, fridge, separate freezer, washing machine. Three WCs, bath and shower over, and en suite shower. Walls a little thin but nothing too bad. Nice and secluded, views stunning. Bonar Bridge is a little uninspiring - Spar is fine if limited, nice butcher. That's about it. Not even sure the pub was open but not overly enticing. Tain, Dornoch all within easy reach. Lots of lovely places to visit not far away - Brora beach is gorgeous. Dornoch town is pretty. Distilleries - Glenmorangie and Clynelish within easy reach. Would happily stay here again.

Beautiful bungalow with lovely views over the lake and furniture and fittings were delightful.
The only negatives were with lack of cleaning in some areas. Had a problem with emptying the bath as when full of water the plug would not release - contacted number of cleaners in folder about problem but although told to twist the chrome disc this did not work. It did however release when only a quarter filled with water. Phone signal only worked from bedrooms or outside and the same with own WIFI connection (no WIFI of their own). Was well equipped in kitchen although no plastic tumbler's, plates etc for children. Also a baking tray, microwave splatter guard and a washing up bowl (don't use a dish washer) would have been useful. Beds were really comfortable and clean. Freezer drawers really dirty as was a drawer under the hob which was really greasy inside and the kitchen sink waste plugs need a deep clean underneath.

The Glaven is a stunning bungalow to stay at, with breath taking views.
Well fitted out and furnished, great large kitchen and dinning area. lots and lots of space to relax and chill out. The television is in a very small room with a very uncomfortable couch at the side of the bungalow, not in the large room with double patio windows, so for a large family, it's a downer. The other thing that needs to be pointed out is, the drive to the Glaven is very steep and very uneven, so if your disabled or have a disability, going for a walk or using a mobility scooter would be impossible, your also expected to take the rubbish bin down there on a Wednesday for collection, you then need to bring it back up. The games room, well it's not as you would expect a games room to be, it's just a dusty double garage used for storage. Apart from them few complaints, it is a beautiful place to stay.

We give Glaven a top recommendation.
Glaven is a lovely, spacious house, set back from the road, with stunning views to the south across the Dornoch Firth. At the house, there were endless opportunities to relax and be entertained; dawn light on the water, ospreys hovering for their prey and a multitude of other birds, through to spectacular sunsets over the Kyle of Sutherland. The accommodation and facilities were as described (and better) although I do think that Wi-Fi is essential nowadays, especially when mobile coverage is so patchy in the area. The village can meet all of your basic needs with a special mention for Crannag Bistro, truly exceptional food and Ardgay Game for venison and more. Lots to do in the area as well; outdoors, golf, history and heritage are all to the fore. Handy for the North Coast 500 as well!
