What our customers say about their holidays

We have stayed at numerous properties and this could be the worst.
On our first evening the TV failed with a bang. Richard was really helpful and arranged for a replacement. No problem there but many issues with fitments and general presentation of the property. The main door is weak and an intruder could easily gain access. Very poor security. Two bathrooms are listed. The downstairs has a hand basin and toilet. Carpeted floor with no pedestal mat. Not hygienic. The upstairs shower is desperately small and barely adequate. Heating is by night storage heaters. These are rusty and in generally poor condition. Not a good way to heat a property, particularly at this time of year when temperatures varied from quite hot to cold. All electrical appliances have inspection dates of 2017 and are cheap quality. The kettle, for instance, only worked at times if the switch was held down. Some of the plates were chipped. Cutlery was limited. A poor selection of ill sorted items. Only four table knives for instance. Certain items missing, such as a fish slice. Old cracked non stick coated frypan. Generally poorly equipped. Table too small to spread a newspaper. Two very rickety chairs. Lighting too dim to read by. No surface to put anything down other than window sills. A coffee table would have helped considerably. Little storage space in the bedroom. Two small bedside cabinets. A small desk with three drawers. A small child sized wardrobe. All looked like random charity shop purchases. No 'welcome pack' with details of nearest doctors, refuse arrangements and so on. Some of the equipment leaflets applied to items which were no longer there. Overall, very disappointing and we were pleased to be able to leave. The low rating in the recommending category is down to the almost unreadable booking details. Certainly a format that does not work with Apple computers.

We loved the cottage, the decor, the facilities: that big bath downstairs, good kitchen, shower, telly, garden, fairly close to the sea, well insulated, but having extra heaters, the whole feel of the place!
A couple of little niggles: the washing machine smelled of fungi - I did a hot wash in it after, so hopefully sorted, might need a wash with some vinegary water. The drying machine came in handy after a rainy day! What is nothing to do with the cottage: narrow roads, often single, so a bit stressful driving, but mostly ok, but drivers to be aware. Would be useful to have some more information about: local shops, how to turn on the hot water for the bath (that it needs about an hour, otherwise switch in cupboard by washing machine), we figured out everything else. Tv worked well, and loved the safe and big garden (needs mulching and feeding with organic matter in the autumn, but lovely). Extra bonus to have a freezer as well (we left a frozen chips behind for somebody :D), and left a couple of blue, white and gold plates (they are old, but hope could be used in the decorations). Didn't dare to touch the nice Willeroy Bochs ones, but loved looking at them, the others were great to use and pretty, the whole place has a lovely atmosphere. We were very lucky to have had it for a better price, apart from the long journey from the Midlands, would love to be back someday. Also a great base for visiting several lovely places around. Thank you!!!

To be honest, after reading a review posted a week or two before our arrival, we did wonder what we would find.
As is usual, during our research when booking a holiday we had scrutinised the photos on Sykes' website and thought we had a fair idea of what to expect. We are glad to report there are no hidden horrors and all was as expected. After driving along a woodland drive carpeted with bluebells, red campion, cow parsley and so much more, we found the property set in a secluded corner of the 14 acre estate (which has mown paths around the field edges and pond for you to wander and explore - great for a dog walk in the evening after a day out). It was beautifully warm, clean and comfortable. It suited us and our dog perfectly. The whole area is criss-crossed with ancient public footpaths which lead to little villages and coast paths. There is a lovely track which starts just down the hill (to the right) from the property which will take you to Mullion village (c 1 mile). It was the perfect property for our break and without doubt we would go again. (PS. Perhaps if the author of the rotten review had researched he would have found fewer 'surprises' and maybe consider his manners and address petty issues direct with the host) "

We have to agree with previous reviews about the pervasive damp and musty smell of the property.
There was black mould on the curtains and paint work especially in the lounge. Extensive condensation occurred in the property as stated by Sykes this is because the property has single pane glass - you are advised on arrival that there is a Karcher window cleaner that you can use to remove the condensation - this wasn't stated on the property details and in fact Sykes have replied in conjunction with the owner that you need to do this, I would like to have known this before booking the property. The entrance to the property was covered in green moss and looked neglected and most unwelcoming with not a lot of curb appeal. The utility room was excellent for the dogs as was the garden although some aspects of the garden furniture was unkempt and unusable. The kitchen was well equipped but we would have liked a bowl for the sink or a plug. The beaches recommended were excellent for walking the dogs and their owners. Village shop was excellent with local products and some unusual gifts.

We very much enjoyed our stay at the cottage which is situated in a lovely part of Cornwall near to coastal walks with stunning views and in a lovely rural location.
The cottage is very tastefully decorated and the garden too very well tended. There are just a few things we would like to highlight to make better: the bed linen was too warm and a second set of linen for week 2 would have been appreciated. The fridge was much too small, the garden table was nice but some more comfortable garden furniture/deck chairs/sun loungers would be good. We felt some information about what was around would have been useful. For instance The Five Pilchards pub in Porthallow is just a 10 minute walk there (longer coming back up the steep hill!) with great food and a great pub, nearby beaches and walks to take. St Keverne had just one pub not 2 and was also a great place to visit. We of course did our research of places to visit but just a few suggestions from the owners would have been nice. I have to say we were very happy there and some day would love to go back (hoping we get as good weather as this year!)
