  The cottage is beautiful and in a gorgeous location.

  The attention to detail in the cottage is amazing, it is very well presented and has a lovely feel about it. The hot tub is a big bonus if you get the weather for it. It is a bit overlooked but I can see that in time the shrubbery should provide some screening, however a parasol would help in the meantime, and to also cast some shade on very sunny days - the heat of the hot tub and the sun is intense. There were four slight issues - in the single bedroom my son locked the door with the key from the inside but then could not get it unlocked, it had jammed. By throwing the key out of the window and then using a bit of force, it eventually unlocked but I would suggest removing the keys altogether, they look pretty but I would say that they are not really needed. The second is the bed in the main bedroom, it’s rather creaky. The third being that my daughter found a used sock in one of the her bedroom drawers (which we left there I’m afraid..she didn’t want to touch it and then I forgot to remove later on). Lastly, it was having no access to the heating. I appreciate we stayed during July but a couple of the evenings went very cold and it was then that we found the heating system was locked. We would have maybe lit the wood burner but no wood was provided. We understood that usually neither of the these would normally be needed in the summertime, however having one as an option would have been good. I do not want any of these points to detract from the cottage itself, or indeed our stay. We loved staying there and would definitely recommend to anyone else visiting the area.

  By Steven E on 24-May-2018 Lovely House - perfect for big families. Stayed at Knowles House with 5 other family members including elderly parents and a dog. Wonderful house with a terrific garden. Weather was perfect and garden was superb for chilling, sunbathing or even Yoga. Met by the owners who gave us a guided tour and explained everything we needed to know from the heating to the recycling. Lovely clean bedrooms with a twin on the ground floor with its own small lounge area perfect for the elderly who have difficulty with stairs. Layout of the kitchen with the cookers and crockery, separate sink room and a third utility room with large fridge and freezers take some getting used to but no big deal. There’s a standard cooker / low level grill if your not confident with using the Aga. Big flat screen TV in the lounge and plenty of small ones in the bedrooms if your that desperate to watch TV. Showers in the bedrooms were very good and we had no issues with hot water no matter what the time of day. Lovely walk for dog walkers alongside local river one minute from the house. Journeys out to local coastal towns didn’t take long in a car. Make your own mind up about the best ones to visit - we liked Beer but won’t be rushing back to Seaton! Lovely coastal walks between Seaton and Branscombe. Took a local taxi (The very helpful Bert from Seaton Taxi’s who took all 6 of us+ Dog) to the Ship Inn at Axmouth for a couple of evening meals - Quality food, highly recommended - make sure you book.   Not the best stay that this cottage … firstly it’s not family friendly as described the property is located on the corner of a busy road so when having to park the car across the road on a evening it’s not very safe !

  It’s also does have a damp smell to the cottage . I have been diagnosed with Crohn’s disease and I get very cold on an evening, the Central heating is locked so you’re not able to put the heating on just to take the chill away ,you have no were to dry wet towels items of clothes ( only a small wooden aire me in the utility room which you only get a few pairs of underwear items shall we say) On booking our weeks stay it’s stays that starter for woodburning stove, included in the price. however this is not the case … I even had a mouldy honey spoon in the cutlery drawer. I sent a message to the owner and the gentlemen, that looks after the property… that he will speak to the owner about the heating this was never resolved ! I have all correspondent text messages that shows they never replied I have spoken to Sykes to try and resolve this matter , This is their reply Dear Mrs Midgley, Thank you for contacting us regarding your booking at Pound Cottage. The owner has advised they do not wish to offer compensation as you did not give them any chance to rectify the issues. If you wish to pursue compensation then this will have to be done via third party means such as the small claims court. We will now close the case. I did sent txt message to Anthony/ Jacqueline and I think over 3 days it’s Long enough to rectify any issues and yet they didn’t !!

  The cottage itself is lovely, very clean, towels provided and tea and coffee, and the hot tub was really good to go in every evening after a day out.

  The location was great and the walk from the cottage into Lyme Regis was really nice. The biggest downside for us was the significant lack of parking I can't see that this was advised of in the property listing. I've looked through everything. From an accessibility point of view as I'm profoundly deaf in my left ear and I don't have much hearing left in my right, this was a massive issue to the point that I feel we should make a complaint please. The road outside next to the cottage is extremely dangerous and we had no choice but to park over the road on the hill. People need to made aware of this! It's standard stuff. It's not a cheap holiday and this is something you should either have as standard or at least be made aware of before you go. It's really disappointing. We have no issue with the quality of the cottage etc, or the booking etc through Sykes is just the parking and I in particular don't want another family to go through the stress like we did due to accessibility issues.   Reviewed 30 August 2017 Beautiful Victorian Home I stayed at Knowles with 11 family members including my elderly parents and children and it was a wonderful break for all of us. Knowles is a beautiful Victorian home that the owners once lived in with their parents. The house is very comfortable and cosy and each room has been left sympathetic to its origin which we all found lovely. The garden is amazing, the owners employ a gardener who clearly loves the garden as his own and keeps it pristine with beautiful flower beds and even a cottage garden with herbs etc growing in it which we were able to use. We were very lucky with the weather so we chose to stay at the house most days (we usually eat out a lot) but because the garden was so lovely we chose most days to hang around and eat Alfresco. The only negative I can think of is that we left our 2 dogs at home, what a mistake, they would have been in seventh heaven.
