  By Steven E on 24-May-2018 Lovely House - perfect for big families. Stayed at Knowles House with 5 other family members including elderly parents and a dog. Wonderful house with a terrific garden. Weather was perfect and garden was superb for chilling, sunbathing or even Yoga. Met by the owners who gave us a guided tour and explained everything we needed to know from the heating to the recycling. Lovely clean bedrooms with a twin on the ground floor with its own small lounge area perfect for the elderly who have difficulty with stairs. Layout of the kitchen with the cookers and crockery, separate sink room and a third utility room with large fridge and freezers take some getting used to but no big deal. There’s a standard cooker / low level grill if your not confident with using the Aga. Big flat screen TV in the lounge and plenty of small ones in the bedrooms if your that desperate to watch TV. Showers in the bedrooms were very good and we had no issues with hot water no matter what the time of day. Lovely walk for dog walkers alongside local river one minute from the house. Journeys out to local coastal towns didn’t take long in a car. Make your own mind up about the best ones to visit - we liked Beer but won’t be rushing back to Seaton! Lovely coastal walks between Seaton and Branscombe. Took a local taxi (The very helpful Bert from Seaton Taxi’s who took all 6 of us+ Dog) to the Ship Inn at Axmouth for a couple of evening meals - Quality food, highly recommended - make sure you book.   The place where it was was beautiful, the grounds are fantastic , excellent parking , ideal !

  The overall house is good but needs some upgrading , the front door lock is very tricky and anyone with arthritis wouldn’t be able to open it . I had great difficulties.The three beds we used were uncomfortable, but ok . The washing up bowl was dirty , old and split the sharp plastic cut my 86 year old mothers finger badly , another oldish was left by the front door but no apology from the owner just that she had forgotten about it . I also found the side of a cabinet by the bed was filthy and covered in looked like drink spilt down it . I raised the cleaning in an appropriate way , and provided a picture and no come back , the hot tub was on a large shed and the straps were broken on the lid and it looked very old , and grubby , we didn’t use it . The owners have clearly had real problems at this property from people disrespecting it . Very sadly this was evident in the rule book , “ DO NOT TRASH “ do not , do not etc followed by exclamation marks . It doesn’t feel friendly or welcoming and with the lack of care from the owners eg legitimate concerns , I would not return here . There were old balloons and sweet wrappers down the side of the sofa , my concerns are that during this time cleanliness has to be 110% . The stock of equipment was excellent, the kitchens were excellent for large parties . Double glazing is in need of some attention . If you are wanting to escape to nowhere , this is lovely but don’t behave “!!!!!! “And don’t expect excellent customer service “!!!!!!! “

  We had a 2 night stay here after a camping trip and was greeted by the lovely owners who showed us round.

  Emma was brilliant with the children and directed them to the secret mud kitchen in the woods that was just beautiful. Theres lots for the children to do and play with. We were gifted some lemon cake and homemade juice which was absolutely yummy!!! The glamping tent was huge and comfortably slept all 5 of us whilst giving us lots of space within the main area of the tent. The cupboard bedroom was a real hit with my daughter. We had a hot tub which was super easy to get going (do this as soon as you can to be able to enjoy it as soon as you arrive). The grounds are just breathtaking as well as the peace and tranquility. We were offered to do the farm tour but my children decided to sleep in, so I embraced the opportunity to sit outside with a cuppa. The tent is so clean and tidy and felt like we were the first ones using it. The beds are really comfy and slept amazing.... we really wished we had stayed longer. Be prepared for absolute darkness at night, so an extra torch needs to be packed. We also took our gas stove for a quick brew in the morning rather than waiting for the stove to heat up which i would recommend taking.... also do remember to take slippers. We didn't do much exploring further out of the site as we were quite happy to explore the grounds and relax. We will definitely return if we are ever down south again. Thank you Aller Farm Camping x

  Reviewed 30 August 2017 Beautiful Victorian Home I stayed at Knowles with 11 family members including my elderly parents and children and it was a wonderful break for all of us. Knowles is a beautiful Victorian home that the owners once lived in with their parents. The house is very comfortable and cosy and each room has been left sympathetic to its origin which we all found lovely. The garden is amazing, the owners employ a gardener who clearly loves the garden as his own and keeps it pristine with beautiful flower beds and even a cottage garden with herbs etc growing in it which we were able to use. We were very lucky with the weather so we chose to stay at the house most days (we usually eat out a lot) but because the garden was so lovely we chose most days to hang around and eat Alfresco. The only negative I can think of is that we left our 2 dogs at home, what a mistake, they would have been in seventh heaven.

  We had 5 generations staying at Knowles over Christmas! The house worked really well for us all, from the downstairs en-suite bedroom with sitting room to all the upstairs bedrooms with en-suites. The owners who live nearby could not be more helpful and friendly. The house retains lots of its original features and although old fashioned in lots of respects it is also well furnished and very comfortable. The beds were wonderful and we all slept well. The kitchens worked well and again really well equipped. Christmas lunch for 11 is no mean feat but again there was an abundance of pots, pans etc, There was so much space inside and out that at no time did we feel crowded. We would highly recommend this house for large families or groups of friends getting together. The garden is wonderful, parking in abundance and the views beautiful. What more can I say?
