What our customers say about their holidays
Dan - Verified booking
On the whole the property is a characterful, beautiful and historic cottage, it has ample outside space and the setting is fantastic.
Unfortunately on arrival, we thought that the property was not cleaned to an acceptable standard. Whilst areas had been cleaned, much of the homes carpets and upholstery were not clean, dusty corners, cobwebs, and just a general feeling of uncleanliness was evident throughout all rooms, the kitchen floor in need of a scrub and polish, in addition to a lingering odour that bestows homes of dusty and slightly dirty nature. At 6pm following a full days travelling, we really did not intend to contact the holiday agent to commence a dispute, so we spent the first hour of our holiday hoovering and cleaning. We are practical and down to earth people, so it wasn't the end of the world to us. However, with a baby who would be crawling on the floors we needed to get it sorted there and then. We called into the Salcombe agents office for the property to inform them as we were passing by. We are not expecting action, we were just informing them of our experience. They suggested that we should have contacted them straight away and sent photos so that they could send cleaners out. This just wouldn't have been workable at 6pm on a Friday evening when we are knackered and need to get the kids down. Sending cleaners for a quick spruce up wouldn't have helped much, it's not necessarily the regular cleaning, but that the property needs a serious deep clean, the vac is a 25 year old Henry, so unless there's some emotional attachment to it, he probably needs replacing. The only mattress that seems fit for purpose is a single in the middle room, the rest, along with the pillows have the ability to reshape your back and neck into arrangements only a qualified chiropractor can sort out. A special mention to the fridge, whose noise became so loud at one point we thought it might be trying to communicate. A minor issue. Many areas were good however, the new cooker and hob were fantastic. The Amazon TV stick worked great for the kids. The single child's room decor was really fun. The house is of an age where you expect the quirks, and much of the decor fits well with that character and helps you disconnect from life back home. A side note, the nearest pub didn't do any food, although was welcoming. The Royal Oak further round was pretty bad, the bar lady served me whilst on her phone, empty glasses littered the place, with areas caked in dust. I love a dive bar now and again but this place took to a new level. We had fantastic weather with some brilliant visits to local villages and towns. We've made some wonderful memories and the cottage played a good part in that. The areas mentioned let it down, so I'm not sure we would return. I think the areas mentioned are fairly easy to address though.

Well what can I say.
This caravan is a the top of the park and is on the steepest roadway I have seen. Totally unsuitable for the elderly or families with small children. The gas was empty so having spoken to the owner I was directed to get the site maintenance to check it out. They did so and replaced the gas bottles. I also asked them to look at the TV in the living room that wasnât picking up the sat channels and they couldnât fathom out the problem. The owner said that I must have been pressing the wrong buttons. I think there were other issues that she is not owning up to. The caravan is a bit small. Ok for a you family I suppose but no good for us. The Wi-Fi was chargeable from the site, not mentioned in the Ad. About £6 a day for anything usable. There was a good power shower and the decking was fully enclosed so safe for our small dog. All in All, for us a total waist of money. We left after one night and the owner blamed us for our concerns.

If you are wanting a modern place to stay, this isn't the one, however if you want a place to stay that will make you feel like you're in France, 100% this is the one.
The seating out the front was an amazing sun trap and it was really nice going up to the top of the garden to have a BBQ and play croquet (these facilities are there for use). The facilities aren't great in regards to the tele being very small, and the kitchen being quite old, but we barely spent any time watching tele due to being out on day trips, or playing pool in the games room (pool table and table tennis table aren't amazing but did a job). We were a bit disappointed with the cleanliness of the property. It was very dusty and there were a lot of cobwebs, but it wasn't a massive issue for us. Was great having a washing machine, however it did break towards the end of our stay, but I'm assuming it will be fixed soon. If we were looking for a place to stay around that area again, then we would not think twice about re-booking.

It may be time to replace the mattresses on all beds.
Very uncomfortable, bossy, squeaky. Cleanliness was OK but again bedding could be refreshed. I also had bites on my legs. I moved the beds in the spare room to find crackers, crisp packets and roll on deodorant, so the cleaners can't do that good a job. Overall a lovely place but new mattesses, bedding and a deep clean of both bedrooms would be beneficial. It was also a real shame to have our last day of the holiday disturbed by heavy garden maintenance, not very relaxing. This was in addition to scaffolding being put on the property next door (owners I presume) half way through our holiday which was not only noisy but blocked us in for arouns 2 hours one morning as we weren't able to get out of the drive was unloading scaffolding and setting up around the house.

This was a perfect little get away.
Fairly close to several beaches including Bigbury beach. All stunning beaches as well as the water was so clear. There is a pub just up the road which we found to be unfriendly. But if you go further out everyone was so friendly. The are is also dog friendly and very welcoming. The cottage was a beautiful Devon cottage. It felt so homely. Every thing we needed was available for us. You will definitely need a car and the roads are narrow country lanes. Some a bit bumpy. But the scenery was unbelievable. Our break was so much more than expected. We went into Plymouth. So much to so there. We went on a boat cruise which was fab. I recommend this break highly. We made so many lovely memories. We definitely plan to go again. We loved every minute !
