What our customers say about their holidays

  • Phil - Verified booking

This was our first time staying at Wansfell Retreat and in general we found this to be is a very good, clean lodge in an excellent location on Limefitt Park.

We've stayed at five separate lodges on Limefitt over the years and are therefore very familiar with the park and its facilities. The lodge itself is, modern, light and in the most part well maintained. There are a couple of areas that could be improved (the gate was partly hanging off its hinges and the UPVC door step was cracked but nothing major). One thing I would point out is that the 3rd bedroom is smaller than we've come to expect in a lodge this size. Its absolutely fine for small children but is a bit of a squeeze for adults. Likewise with the living room area, this is great for two adults and up to four children but at one point in our holiday we had four adults and two children staying in the lodge and it was a bit on the small size. Not a show-stopper by any means but something to be aware of for larger parties. The kitchen is modern and well equipped but is a little bit limited on storage space if you're bringing lots of food with you. The sink is very slow to drain, however this was also the case with the showers so may be a general issue with the site rather than the lodge itself. The decking area is superb with plenty of comfy seating and fantastic views out over Wansfell. Limefitt Park is immaculate and in a wonderful location with superb walks available direct from the site. Its a great base for exploring all the Lakes has to offer. One negative that it is worth noting is that paddling and swimming in the river is no longer allowed. I wasn't able to find out why this is the case but is a real shame as my children have always loved doing this. All in all, I would definitely recommend Wansfell Retreat and Limefitt Park but just bear in mind it may be a bit on the small side for larger parties.

We have previously stayed at this lodge and loved it so decided to return this year.

Unfortunately we we’re left disappointed at the cleanliness of the lodge. On arrival there was a ramekin of cigarette ends left on the table on the decking from the previous guests and pieces of glass on the kitchen floor. We had a toddler and a dog with us so luckily we found this before one of them stood on it. The general cleanliness of the lodge was very poor. Given there is a 6 hour turn around and guests are asked to strip their own beds, it does not seem reasonable that floors are not cleaned properly and the lodge isn’t dusted. Our little boy lost one of his toys under the sofa and when I went to get it I was disgusted at the dog hair, dust and other items under the sofa. It wouldn’t take much to move the sofas and vacuum underneath them in between stays. The oven is also desperate for a clean. The lodge is starting to look a bit tired and needs some maintenance. The dishwasher runner was broken, one of the lampshades in the bedroom was smashed, the blinds in one bedroom were broken, the door handle in one of the bedrooms is broken, the tap in the main bathroom is broken and lots of other little bits that need some attention. It is such a shame that the lodge had been left to get in this state, it is a beautiful location on the site, with gorgeous views from the decking. I can not fault the park in general, and the staff in the Haybarn inn are brilliant, very friendly. One in particular took the time to ask how to sign back to my non verbal son, and remembered this the next time we went in which was lovely.

Stayed at Wansfell Retreat in March 17, on one of the wettest weekends ever.

The lodge is in a lovely location, with great views over the Troutbeck valley. The decked area is good for small children, as it is fully enclosed with gated access, however due to the weather we could not venture outside at all. The lodge itself is well laid out, with a spacious living/dining area and well appointed kitchen. 2 of the bedrooms are a decent size, with the third being quite tight, but not unreasonably small compared to other lodges I have stayed in. The ensuite bathroom is a bonus if the lodge is fully occupied. WIFI / Phone signal is poor, however this is clearly stated on the booking information. The quality of the fixtures and fittings is generally very good, with an excellent first impression on arrival. The levels of cleanliness were ok, however I would say that some further attention to detail is required in areas such as underneath the sofas (which were quite grubby) and the cooker which could have done with a good scrub out. Overall a nice lodge, in a lovely location. What did you enjoy most about your stay? Relaxing location, and the views. What one experience (e.g attraction, walk, day out) would you recommend for our future guests? Lake Cruise.

    We stayed for one week.

Our party consisted of 4 adults and one dog. The lodge is lovely, it has a good location on the park, not overlooking other caravans. From the lodge itself there are many walks to be had. Just under 10 minutes from Bowness on Windermere. The other way leads to Ullswater and Consiton, both within half an hours drive away. The lodge has 3 bedrooms, 2 twins and one double. One of the twins has only one wardrobe but no chest of drawers or bedside table which was a minus but not a major problem. The lounge had two 2 seater settees so if there were six people, seating would have to be on the dining chairs, but for us it was just right. We would come back again and would definitely try and get this lodge. Some lodges did have hot tubs, not this this one, but as we came at Easter it didn't matter. What did you enjoy most about your stay? The lodge location, its superior decor and comfortability. What one experience (e.g attraction, walk, day out) would you recommend for our future guests? Getting a boat trip on Windermere and having the walkers combination of a trip and a walk. Well worth seeing Windermere from the quieter side as well as the hustle and bustle side.
