What our customers say about their holidays

The Rousdon Estate is a fantastic place to stay.
There are good short walks around the estate with a lot of interesting and quirky buildings to look at. For longer walks, the massive plus is that the estate has its own path down to the Undercliff (about half way along) from where you can walk to Seaton or Lyme Regis. If you cross the Undercliff path the private path continues on to a private beach which was virtually deserted both times we went (although the path is quite challenging). 2, Old Home Farm itself is a very clean, airy and well-appointed house which had easily enough space and seats, etc for seven of us. The large fridge-freezer was particularly welcome as we did a lot of cooking ourselves. The house also has a nice sunny garden, front and back. We didn't have any of the problems previous guests had with showers (we've had a lot worse!) However, although it was very clean, we did have a few niggles about how the house had been left for us. First, we had asked (when booking and also by phone the week before we came) for both the beds in bedrooms 1 & 3 to be made up as superkings. We had received an email saying that this would be done but bedroom 3 was still a twin when we arrived. We had to zip-link it ourselves and luckily we had brought a spare double sheet and duvet. Second, like the previous reviewer in April we were pretty appalled to be greeted by a pile of 26 empty bottles just lying around outside the back of the house. Then we found a further 14 bottles in a food waste bin in the same location, making 40 in all. Clearly the cleaners expected that it was future guests' responsibility to dispose of their predecessors' empties. Anyway, we put them all in black sacks and put them in the orange top black bin - where all rubbish and recycling has to go - and put the bin out on Tuesday night for Wednesday collection. We found out about this in the guest book but it would be helpful if this info could be displayed more prominently. In addition, there was no outside bucket for cleaning our dog's paws after a muddy walk so we bought a Lyme Regis "Crab Bucket". Before leaving, we wrote "2, Old Home Farm" on this bucket and left it outside the back door for future dog owning guests to use, so we hope that it is still there. Finally, we would like to say that these were only minor irritations and we really enjoyed our stay at 2, Old Home Farm and on the Rousdon estate and would definitely recommend it

The cottage is beautiful and in a gorgeous location.
The attention to detail in the cottage is amazing, it is very well presented and has a lovely feel about it. The hot tub is a big bonus if you get the weather for it. It is a bit overlooked but I can see that in time the shrubbery should provide some screening, however a parasol would help in the meantime, and to also cast some shade on very sunny days - the heat of the hot tub and the sun is intense. There were four slight issues - in the single bedroom my son locked the door with the key from the inside but then could not get it unlocked, it had jammed. By throwing the key out of the window and then using a bit of force, it eventually unlocked but I would suggest removing the keys altogether, they look pretty but I would say that they are not really needed. The second is the bed in the main bedroom, itâs rather creaky. The third being that my daughter found a used sock in one of the her bedroom drawers (which we left there Iâm afraid..she didnât want to touch it and then I forgot to remove later on). Lastly, it was having no access to the heating. I appreciate we stayed during July but a couple of the evenings went very cold and it was then that we found the heating system was locked. We would have maybe lit the wood burner but no wood was provided. We understood that usually neither of the these would normally be needed in the summertime, however having one as an option would have been good. I do not want any of these points to detract from the cottage itself, or indeed our stay. We loved staying there and would definitely recommend to anyone else visiting the area.

Not the best stay that this cottage ⦠firstly itâs not family friendly as described the property is located on the corner of a busy road so when having to park the car across the road on a evening itâs not very safe !
Itâs also does have a damp smell to the cottage . I have been diagnosed with Crohnâs disease and I get very cold on an evening, the Central heating is locked so youâre not able to put the heating on just to take the chill away ,you have no were to dry wet towels items of clothes ( only a small wooden aire me in the utility room which you only get a few pairs of underwear items shall we say) On booking our weeks stay itâs stays that starter for woodburning stove, included in the price. however this is not the case ⦠I even had a mouldy honey spoon in the cutlery drawer. I sent a message to the owner and the gentlemen, that looks after the property⦠that he will speak to the owner about the heating this was never resolved ! I have all correspondent text messages that shows they never replied I have spoken to Sykes to try and resolve this matter , This is their reply Dear Mrs Midgley, Thank you for contacting us regarding your booking at Pound Cottage. The owner has advised they do not wish to offer compensation as you did not give them any chance to rectify the issues. If you wish to pursue compensation then this will have to be done via third party means such as the small claims court. We will now close the case. I did sent txt message to Anthony/ Jacqueline and I think over 3 days itâs Long enough to rectify any issues and yet they didnât !!

Lyme Regis Cottage was a real pleasure to stay in.
We particularly loved the sitting room and having the sun room right next door was a great bonus. We felt it was someone's home and we had the privilege of being allowed to stay there. I loved the books on the shelves everywhere and was grateful to find some inspiring art books. The good sized garden with two sitting areas was a very pleasant surprise. We had a small issue with the extractor fan not working and the smoke alarm going off. A man came round and fixed it within half an hour! He said he happened to be passing but even so, that was remarkably efficient. I think maybe a little more could have been said about the cottage being on a pretty steep slope. We are in our 70s and were a bit aghast when we arrived! But we treated it as our gym and after 5 days left feeling a whole lot healthier. Altogether it is a lovely property, quite close to all the Lyme Regis action but also quiet and peaceful. Obviously thoughtfully and carefully furnished and looked after by the owner. We loved her taste!

The cottage itself is lovely, very clean, towels provided and tea and coffee, and the hot tub was really good to go in every evening after a day out.
The location was great and the walk from the cottage into Lyme Regis was really nice. The biggest downside for us was the significant lack of parking I can't see that this was advised of in the property listing. I've looked through everything. From an accessibility point of view as I'm profoundly deaf in my left ear and I don't have much hearing left in my right, this was a massive issue to the point that I feel we should make a complaint please. The road outside next to the cottage is extremely dangerous and we had no choice but to park over the road on the hill. People need to made aware of this! It's standard stuff. It's not a cheap holiday and this is something you should either have as standard or at least be made aware of before you go. It's really disappointing. We have no issue with the quality of the cottage etc, or the booking etc through Sykes is just the parking and I in particular don't want another family to go through the stress like we did due to accessibility issues. Thank you.
