What our customers say about their holidays

This listing does not live up to its description.
It is a cold, unwelcoming place where the heating is insufficient in every respect. Cold floors, draughty windows, a lack of insulation in this outbuilding lead to it having an unaired, abandoned feel and certainly not suitable for a winter break. It can be found up about a mile up the farm track, with a dark, dense wooded view from the kitchen and a view of the back of a farmhouse from the front. There is no name on the cottage which stands next to a delapidated greenhouse with sharp glass which has been allowed to cave in and stay where it fell. We left after 2 nights because the bed was so horribly and unbelievably cold. We left the heating on all day on our second day but the building retains no warmth at all. The minute the heating goes off, it becomes cold again. There is insufficient lighting in the lounge/diner for reading which is not cosy, even with a log fire. The owners had kitted out the kitchen well and left eggs as a welcome gesture which was nice but even the black , windowless bathroom was quite depressing. We did not contact the owners before we left as there is nothing they could have done to improve things for us. Sykes' representative's naïve comment that we should have talked to them first so that they could have turned up the thermostat showed a lack of understanding of the severity of our issues. We have both lived in a rural setting in the north of England and are used to inclement , winter weather. We have been Sykes customers for over 20 years and have always had a good experience. This means we will not be booking our next holiday with Sykes.

A small cozy lodging for two people.
An old farmyard where the owner offers two cottages for rent. He lives on the premises and is kind and very helpful if you need assistance and information. No luxury, but all the basics for a nice stay. The place looks out over the fields along the Spey River, where you can go for a walk (or you can climb up the mountain behind the cottage). Special attractions nearby are the Highlands Folk Museum in Newtonmore, the Dalwhinnie Distillery, and the Stone marking the geographical centre of Scotland. All the nature and mountains of the Cairngorms are within reach. 15-22 June 2024

Apart from no Internet/WiFi, the cottage is lovely and cozy, all you need for a very relaxing week away, there is a Cafe 1/4 of a mile down the road that does home cooking/toasties/sarnies/a range of coffee's and other beverages are also available.
The Deer Stalker Hotel 7 mile towards Dalwinnie does a range of meals if you don't want to cook on your hols. The Dalwinnie Distillery is a must and we enjoyed that as we took the 1 hour 45 minute tour with Robert being our guide (Top Man). We used the cottage as a base to rest at night as we were mostly touring during the day going to various locations. All in all we had a great week at Grouse Cottage, and if you do book up, look out for the heard of deer that gather in the field across the road, we saw them every night on our stay and counted 20 on two occasions. :-)

We loved our week at Dairy Cottage.
The hosts were very welcoming and went out of their way to ensure you had a great time. The cottage was adequately equipped and was warm and comfortable. There was a lovely enclosed decking area with chairs and a hot tub. Fresh milk was available to buy at the barn next door with milkshake flavoured shots to add if desired. This was amazing and added a novelty to the holiday. We were offered a tour of the farm which I am sure would have been amazing, but had to be cancelled due to the thunder storm. This did not stop us having a lovely relaxing time.
