  Spotlessly clean, very well equipped, very comfortable beds / sofa, and in a nice tasteful and modern decor.

  We had no need to meet with the owner, but communications with them via txt message were very helpful and very prompt. Should we have had any issues, i have no doubt they'd have been dealt with quickly. Situated on a quiet row of cabins, on the outer southern edge of Nawton, we found the cabin a great place for a break. Great views to the south over the fields. It was chosen for being more or less central to everywhere we had intended to visit - National Bird of Prey Centre, York, Lightwater Valley / Flamingo Land, Whitby, Scarborough, York Outlets, Yorkshire Air Museum at Elvington etc. Everything within an hours drive, mainly on lovely country roads, the route past Castle Howard being particularly fun to drive along, and the drive over the moors to Whitby being very picturesque. Well equipped cabin with dishwasher, toaster, microwave, double oven / grill with hob, tall fridge freezer (lots of space in both - should you need freeze anything), shower, toilet (obviously!), 2 very comfortable double beds, smart TV (remember to log out of Netflix etc before you leave!), excellent wifi coverage as well - which can be a deal breaker for a lot of people (ourselves included) these days, so worthy of a mention. I sat outside on the decking watching MOTD whilst doing some star photography, with no loss of signal. It's more or less in "dark sky" country, which is great, assuming the weather stays clear. Very comfy sofa and swivel chair. Breakfast bar with stools and large patio table / chairs outside should you wish to dine out there, which we did a couple of times. Towels and bedding are provided, but if you need larger towels for a trip to the sea, or the nearby outdoor pool in Helmsley you'll need bring your own. Speaking of the outdoor pool - it's very popular and you'll need book well in advance - we left it too late and didn't get a slot - you'll need book online. Plenty space to park - enough room for 2 cars if needed, one either side of the cabin. There's a Co-Op in Helmsley, and another larger one in Kirkbymoorside, and an Lidl in Pickering. In Nawton we tried the Fusion Spice Indian restaurant which was excellent, and we had wanted to try the Fish & Chip shop but that was cash only, so we had to change our plans. There's a good play area next to the cricket ground right at the end of the street you turn into, should you have children - swings, assault course thing, zip wire etc - the usual things. They were playing cricket there early evening the 3 times we visited as well, should that be of interest. Welcome pack left out for us with sausage / bacon & eggs, chocolate cake, bottle of wine and soft drink for our daughter and some cartridges for the Nespresso machine. Enough to get you started, and a lovely gesture. Bird feeder on the decking is fun to watch whilst having breakfast. Overall a great cabin, in a great very quiet central (for us!) location.   So I wish I could include photos here as you would never stay in this cottage and unlikely to stay in a Sykes accommodation again.

  You needed a 4x4 to travel up the drive my car bottomed out several times with the potholes. Outside lights not working couldn’t see a thing, slippery decking slope couldn’t see key safe ridiculous. First initial impressions when entering were very positive, nice space and well laid out.and a welcome food pack Then… handle on the kitchen cupboard fell off, I noticed the floor kick board was kicked in. So the en-suite bathroom, the toilet was dirty,, I mean black stains and residue on the toilet seat, there was mould all over shower tray, water would not drain and after inspection found full of hair, shower glass filthy, shower extractor fan seemed poor under inspection clogged with dust. Main bathroom, the bath panel was kicked in, skirting rotted with damp, chrome filthy. Bedroom 3 with two singles, we used a cot, but both beds had broken slats so fell through when sat on them to dress the baby. I have phots of all this. Asked owner for assistance with outside lighting as it was dangerous his comment still on my phone was, “we had the opposite our lights on all night”,not what I wanted to hear. He came round and asked if all good with the property, it was New Year’s Eve and rather than cause a scene as I was so angry and upset and not in the best of moods and my partner didn’t want me to have a confrontation with him so I said all Ok, I wish I had shown him round I’m sure he would not have believed his eyes. Contacted Sykes sent them the photos, thought there might be compensation, a written apology. What a joke……… i

  Lovely clean lodge, with good quality funiture and equipment.

  Great welcome pack including a bottle of wine which was much appreciated, as were some wonderful fresh raspberries delivered on arrival. The two bathrooms were ideal for us as a family of adults, lashings of lovely hot water, so all could shower and bath as required. Lots of magazines and games for use if the weather wasn't good. Very well eqipped with washing mashine, dishwasher, microwave, smart TV and Wi Fi, although it would have been useful to have some instructions on how to use the equipment, the cooker took me some time to work out how to use it as I have never used an electric cooker. We had a very comfortable stay, which was excellent value for the facilities on offer. The beds were a little too soft for us as we like a firm mattress, but that is a personal preference. We would happily book a stay here again.

  Just arrived back from a lovely week at the lodge.

  Kay the host is very welcoming & on hand if needed. Gorgeous welcome treats from Terrington tea rooms, try the sweet chilli sausage rolls. The lodge is in a perfect location for visiting lots of neighbouring towns, York, the coast, Malton etc. Castle Howard is beautiful and a short drive away. There are several local pubs, Crown and Cushion was a good find with a pizza place opposite. The Lodge was very clean, beautiful views & animals, a lovely swing seat and of course the hot tub which was perfect to relax in at the end of the day. All looked very pretty with the fairy lights at night and is a good place to view stars weather permitting. The only feedback really would be there was no Internet/WiFi and I had zero signal so couldn't research things. Although it did give me a break from my phone

  What a beautiful, tranquil spot.

  The lodge is tucked away down a country lane with views over rolling hills and only birdsong to disturb the quiet. Lesley gave us a warm welcome despite the late hour...a log fire burning, a generous welcome basket and a friendly face after a rather fraught drive over the Pennines. The lodge was spotless, spacious, comfortable and full of light. The king size bed was REALLY comfortable...we opened the French doors onto the little private patio and let the breeze in. It was absolute bliss. I could have stayed put for the whole time but my companion wanted to have a potter to Malton, Pickering, Filey. We had an excellent lunch at the Blacksmiths Arms in the village and visited the lovely Ryedale Vineyards. A special few days in a super holiday cottage in a gorgeous part of the UK. We'll be back!
