What our customers say about their holidays

We really enjoyed our stay at The Old Cobblers shop but there were a few areas that we feel could be improved.
One issue we had was that there seemed to be a bit of a fly problem, there were lots of flies in the accommodation that we could not get rid of and it was not very nice having to eat in there with flies flying around. We did have to go out and buy some fly spray from a supermarket but even with this there was still lots of flies. When we arrived the dishcloth was wet and had clearly been used and left in the sink. I would have preferred no dishcloth as opposed to a dirty one. There was rubbish in bins which had also not been emptied around the accommodation and the outside area which suggests it hadnât been cleaned properly. There also seemed to be no wifi in the accommodation despite it being advertised to have wifi, this wasnât a massive problem but when wanting to watch a film at night we couldnât use Netflix or the internet to find a film. A slight recommendation would be for there to be a welcome book with information about how to use the facilities and any important information in. For example, people may not use a pizza oven, hot tub or sauna regularly so it would be good to have some top tips or information about how to use them. The bins are also different in local councils so we were unsure what to do regarding recycling and general waste. It may also be worth mentioning when booking the local shop opening hours, it closes at 3pm on a Saturday so if checking in on a Saturday it will already be closed when you arrive so at least if made aware prior to arrive we could have planned to stop at a shop further away. Like I said we really enjoyed our stay and these were only minor problems which hopefully will be addressed in the future and despite these we would definitely recommend the accommodation.

The cottage was lovely but a number of issues really impacted negatively upon our stay and little was done by way of a compensation gesture other than a sorry.
The property is very isolated, which is fine, BUT we had no phone coverage or WiFi for two of our four days so we could not contact anyone, nor could we watch the advertised Sky Glass TV or use laptops or tablets ; my husband could not do any of the work he needed to do and we had to go out during the day to work rather than fully enjoying our break. As there were no pubs, shops or restaurants within five miles, we were effectively trapped as we could not even phone a taxi to take us out for the evening. We also have elderly parents who we could not check upon which was very worrying. We missed some of the basics as in soap, shampoo or shower gel and there were no teatowels available; a small thing but surprisingly necessary. We missed the usual 'Welcome Hamper' although the lovely maintenance man did bring us a bottle of wine.Hot water was somewhat limited and only a quick shower was really possible. I have a chronic back problem and always book accommodation with a tub; but having a bath was not possible due to limited hot water supply. The cottage has a septic tank and we did experience some issues with flushing the toilet, somewhat embarrassing. We did love the cottage, and I do not wish to be negative but I honestly feel prospective guests need to be aware of potential problems. The setting is gorgeous and the pub we visited, The Miners, was incredibly welcoming but, we were disappointed by the issues we experienced, even more so that we were not offered anything by way of compensation. Sadly, I would not stay again.

Had a very comfortable stay.
The interior is very comfortable, decorated well and very cosy inside without feeling cramped. The outside space is lovely with the view from the hot tub which is stunning. The place was spotlessly clean and well equipped with everything you could need in the kitchen. My only criticism is the quality of the WiFi, we didn't have a problem until the 4th evening when the WiFi connection was lost and did not come back before we left so we had about 48 hours without a connection. Normally this wouldn't bother me but as there is also no mobile signal and no 4G available inside the property, it was was completely cut off. Added to that was the Sky Glass tv (which was amazing) relies on the WiFi to be able to watch anything. I appreciate that when you're away you're not watching tv but in the evenings this is important and more so when you can't contact anyone or get access to online facilities. Apart from that though we really enjoyed it and I would recommend staying here. We would love to come back again in the summertime and get a different experience that comes with that time of year.

The old cobblers was beautiful and in a great setting.
Driving up to the cottage was great and seeing it had us excited for or stay. On entering it was what we expected cosy and modern with small rustic touches. Outside areas were amazing and clean. Hot tub was great and the sauna was amazing after working out how it works. Few small negative points, no welcome book to say how things work e.g sauna, microwave oven, induction hob. No sauspans for cooking food, Also found popcorn in the side dresser, floor was dirty. The biggest issue and there is not much you can do about the weather but it was so hot in the accommodation because of the heatwave there was no way to cool the place down because if you opened the windows and doors you would have a room full of flies.also no shelter from the sun outside if you wanted a shaded area. Bed was comfortable shower room great. Sofa cosy and in the evening plenty of areas to sit outside but the lighting did not let you play cards or read outside.overall we would book again but knowing what we needed we would take them along. Winter time would be lovely with the firepit and log burner.

Brilliant 5 night break.
The place is practically brand new, and very well presented. Jayne has done a wonderful job with the decor and furniture. Totally enclosed and sizeable garden for dog to walk about, great hot tub, and comfy sofa/beds. Kitchen is excellent, and we never found ourselves missing anything. There is a large tarmac area in front of the cottages for parking, but our kids loved it for scooter play. Jayne also let us charge our EV with the granny charger, which we did on a very slow overnight charge just once, but the nearby tesco has a 50kw podpoint which was great, so used that a couple times. Went out every day to various locations, iron works very nice, king arthurs labyrinth very good, and much more. Local pub is closed but plenty around for good food with a short drive. Welshpool has many places to eat. Jayne comes across as a genuinely lovely person. Deffo would stay here again, but need to work out what day trips we missed!
