About this property

As featured in the Daily Express this quintessential Cotswold stone period cottage was sympathetically renovated and has been beautifully styled to create a cosy and yet contemporary property, with more than a touch of luxury. Puffitts Cottage is warm and inviting with a wood burner at the heart of the living room, the limestone floors, exposed beams and stonework remind you of the history of this lovely cottage.

As well as the two luxury bedrooms upstairs at Puffitts Cottage, there is also a downstairs single bedroom with walk- in shower as well as a downstairs cloak room, which is ideal for members of the family that may be less mobile. Due to the age of the cottage, there is the odd step within the property, and also steps leading up to the front door.

Originally built in the 18 century, and extended in Victorian times, Puffitts Cottage now offers spacious accommodation, private front and rear gardens, and parking for two cars on its own private driveway at the front of the property. Puffitts Cottage is dog friendly, and can accept up to 2 well behaved dogs (Third on request). With an enclosed, safe rear garden, and direct access to walks from the gate we are perfectly placed for your Cotswold experience. Set in the ever-popular village of Bourton-on-the-Water, famed for its series of low stone bridges, over the fast-flowing River Windrush, and its period honey-coloured stone architecture, this is the perfect place to relax and explore the beauty of the Cotswolds. The centre of the village is just a short, level stroll away and many walks can be enjoyed from the doorstep. The Mousetrap Pub is a minutes’ walk away, serving good food, and your dogs are welcome too. There are plenty of sightseeing opportunities, including the model village, Cotswolds Motor Museum, Birdworld and The Cotswold Perfumery. There are many individual shops, cafés and restaurants to enjoy, as well as a gentle stroll by the water’s edge. Other nearby Cotswold villages worth a visit include Burford, The Slaughters, Stow-on-the-Wold, Moreton-in-Marsh with its famous Tuesday market, and Chipping Campden. The city of Gloucester, with its magnificent cathedral and tomb of Edward II is within easy reach, as is the Regency city of Cheltenham with famous racecourse. National Trust properties are abundant, including Snowshill Manor and Woodchester Park.

Located in the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the historic village of Bourton-on-the-Water dates back to Neolithic times with over 100 buildings being Grade II listed or higher. The village has an eclectic range of visitor attractions, including The Model Village, Cotswold Motor Museum, Birdland Park and Gardens as well as a Dragonfly Maze, monthly farmers’ market as well as many tea rooms, an artisan bakery, antiques and craft markets, traditional sweet shop, cycle hire and its very own perfumery. The spa town of Cheltenham is, architecturally, the most complete Regency town in England with a range of shops, cinemas, theatres, restaurants and pubs, it is famous for its horse racing festival in March, culminating in the Gold Cup steeplechase. Oxford, the oldest university city in England and sometimes called The City of Dreaming Spires has an abundance of prestigious attractions, including the 38 colleges of the university (half of which date back before 1600), the oldest university teaching room, the Bodleian Library, Ashmolean and Pitt Rivers Museums, and Botanic Gardens. Stratford-upon-Avon, Bath, Worcester and the waterfront city of Gloucester are also all within easy reach.

It is spacious clean and well looked after. It’s decorated beautifully with lots of finishing touches. It doesn’t feel like a holiday let but a loved home. The bed and pillows are comfy and the bathroom spacious with a lovely bath. Plenty of storage for clothes etc. The kitchen is large and is well equipped. The utility area and downstairs toilet also very handy. The back garden is a good size and secure for our dog. Plenty of furniture for sitting out. The front garden also now has a gate so we were able to sit out there with our dog too. Nicky, the owner obviously loves her cottage, and was very helpful giving us lots of info before we arrived and checking in with us that everything was good for us. The cottage is in a perfect location, just a 10minute walk along the river to get to Bourton which is beautiful with lots of shops and cafes. You could do some good walks from the cottage with a large field at the back for exercising dogs Also central for exploring the Cotswolds. We look forward to staying at Puffits again in the future.

It has everything you need and more. Very comfortable and really lovely decor. Just on the edge of the village so quiet but only five minutes walk to the lovely shops, tea rooms, restaurants and pubs. A fantastic place to stay and use as your base for visits around the Cotswolds. Brilliant communication both before and during our stay with the owner. We could not have felt more welcome, such a relaxing time it felt like a home from home cannot recommend it more highly.

Everything you need is provided and there are wonderful personal touches even including high quality gifts and treats for our dogs in little bags labelled with their names. Attention to detail is everywhere, little torches in the bedrooms, chocolates and wine on arrival and clear communication with the kind and helpful owner Nicky. The location is particularly convenient being a short stroll from the shops and restaurants. I would recommend Puffitts Cottage without reservation.
