Thimble Hall is a well-loved cottage in Grasmere, praised for its stunning location and cosy, beautiful interior. Guests enjoy the rural feel, proximity to the village, and the wildlife sightings in the garden. While some maintenance issues and cleanliness lapses were noted, the property's charm and the responsiveness of the management team are highlighted positively.
Guests have reported cleanliness issues such as dust, old food in cupboards, and hair in various places. However, the overall experience was not significantly marred by these issues, and some guests took the initiative to tidy up themselves.
The location is highly praised for its easy access to the village and local walks, as well as the opportunity to see wildlife like red squirrels. The rural feel while being close to amenities is a significant plus.
The property is described as cosy and comfortable, with a warm atmosphere. However, some guests mentioned the futon-style beds being low, which may not suit everyone's preferences or needs.
Facilities are generally well-received, with a well-equipped kitchen and good showers. However, there are several mentions of maintenance issues such as a non-working Sky TV remote, a leaky boiler, and a faulty gas ring, which suggest room for improvement.
There is no mention of gifts or special touches that would indicate thoughtfulness from the hosts. Therefore, this category cannot be scored, and guests should not expect gifts during their stay.
Just a mintues’ walk from the centre of Grasmere lies the beautiful Thimble Hall, a detached Lakeland cottage with lots of little luxuries to enjoy. This is a wonderful property for friends and family to create memories in the Lakes.
Stepping into the cottage there is plenty of space for coats and boot before heading into the open plan kitchen / diner. The high vaulted ceiling adds to the spacious feel of this room and the dial aspect windows offer views across the grounds and woodland beyond. This luxury kitchen has everything you need to serve up a hearty Lakeland breakfast before heading out to the nearby fells. The sitting room has cosy low beams, oak flooring and woodburning stove (wood not provided). Relax in the comfortable sofas surrounded by beautiful artwork after a busy day. Larger families will enjoy the second sitting room, an ideal spot to curl up with a good book. Head upstairs to find the three beautiful double bedrooms and luxurious family bathroom. Thimble Hall is set in its own wooded garden with private patio and outdoor furniture and BBQ. Perfect for al fresco dining in the summer.
A range of places to eat from Michelin Starred The Forest Side just a fifteen-minute walk from the cottage, local bistros to the cosy village pubs. Walks around in this part of the Lake District from gentle rambles along the lakeshore or to take in the stunning views from Loughrigg Fell or head higher onto the fells to bag a Wainwright or two including Fairfield, Helvellyn and Helm Crag all of which the more adventurous can conquer direct from the door.
Situated in the heart of the Lake District National Park is the lovely village of Grasmere, probably best known as the home of William Wordsworth, a place he once described as "The most loveliest spot that man hath found". Any visit to Grasmere needs to include The Grasmere Gingerbread shop, where the Wilson family have been making gingerbread for over 60 years. Also in the village are a number of shops, pubs, a church which dates back to the 13th century and Grasmere Lake, plus Grasmere Sports takes place every August, where you can watch participants compete in a variety of sports, including Cumberland Wrestling. Just five miles away is the town of Ambleside and Lake Winderemere where you will find shops, pubs, restaurants and the 17th century Bridge House, which is one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District. Cruises, boat trips and watersports can all be enjoyed on Lake Windermere and the towns of Windermere and Keswick are also within driving distance. Grasmere is a wonderful base for your Lake District retreat.

Floor in hallway and kitchen soaking wet upon arrival, cleaner must have done a mad dash before I arrived at 4pm. No visitors book for comments. Settees in both living rooms very uncomfortable. Beds also uncomfortable. Sykes/Lakeland Lovers slow to respond about heating and oven door seal. On the plus side a spacious property, lovely setting, fairly well equipped, although not leaving enough toilet rolls is not acceptable and a bit mean. Left early on the Thursday due to poor quality sleep. Registered a complaint, awaiting someone to get back. Feel like we haven't had a relaxing holiday. You have issues with your cleaners and maintenance people.

Thimble Hall has a lovely cottage feel to it and the open plan kitchen/dining area was great for everyone to be together. With loads of fabulous walks straight from the house and the CoOp/cafes/bars for food , we didnât move the car all week. The showers in the bathrooms were great but if you are short the bath is hard to get out of ! It was wonderful to see red squirrels in the garden every day - a real bonus.

Might be an idea to put a notice on the small gate that connects to the YHA property - we had 3 people who thought Thimble Hall was the YHA! TV needs sorted out as well. It set itself up again every time we switched it on. Location was excellent and layout downstairs was great. Saw some deer and the occasional red squirrel in the garden. Have already stayed at Thimble Hall previously and would stay there again. Thanks for a good holiday.
