What our customers say about their holidays
Margaret - Verified booking
We arrived earlier at the property and knocked at the door.
As there was no answer we thought the property had been cleaned. We were going to ring the owner immediately and ask as a gesture of goodwill could we put some frozen food in the small icebox as we had been in Ludlow the previous week. We would have left then and returned after the cleaning. The cleaners turned up quite later. We did call the owner on arrival !!! As he wasn't there to see why we had complained, we got the impression he thought we were exaggerating. I did take a photograph. This is the first time we have come across this in all our years of using Sykes Holiday Cottages. The icebox had obviously been left for a couple of weeks and not been defrosted, the door would barely close. it was packed full of ice and blackcurrant spilled in it. The cleaners sorted the icebox and when we got back the fridge was turned off! I'm wondering if it hadn't been brought to the owner's notice, would this had been left again. We then found the kitchen cutlery drawers weren't very clean, the cupboard doors grubby, there was some dirty cutlery. We cleaned them ourselves and cleaned all the cutlery and the dishes. We also wiped the inside of the cupboards. Attention to detail with these cleanliness issues are important. As the owners didn't live nearby it might help if they occasionally came and checked for themselves avoiding negative feedback on important cleanliness issues. The bathroom was cold with one small towel rail. It needs extra heating, particularly in winter. The television kept freezing with a faulty signal. If these issues were addressed then the property would be given more stars. The property was on a very noisy main through road in and out of the town but did not affect our sleep. It eased off in the late evening. There was also a large building site over the road. On the positive side the beds were comfortable and the property was warm. It had a large garden at the back of the property. It was also convenient for a walk into the town. There was a good chip shop a few minutes walk from the property and a nice quiet local pub. If all of these issues were addressed at the property we would return if we were to revisit Bewdley.

Overall this is a great place to stay!
- Very well kept, clean and very cosy in the winter (underfloor heating helps!). The owner is also really friendly and great to deal with. As much as I don't want to complain about anything, I think there are a few things that could be done to make this the best place we've stayed in and somewhere we would come back to EVERY YEAR! My friends and I go cycling in Wales every year. We are a group of (mature) guys, either 4 or 5 strong. The places we return to have a games room (which Bushmills has, HOWEVER IT STATES ON THE ADVERT THAT THERE IS A POOL TABLE AND THERE IS NOT ONE! - Which was actually disappointing given its one of the reasons we picked it), somewhere to store bikes (again covered), has a decent TV and Sky for the evenings (Bushmills does not have) and decent internet, as there or 4 or 5 of us trying to get on line when we are in the house (something Bushmills really lacks). Whilst I understand that some rural places don't have great internet, we find plenty of places in the local area that do, so it doesn't feel like that should be the reason Bushmills lacks. Its that bad I would even suggest either removing "WiFi" from the advert, or at least explain to people that it is next to useless. (dial up speed only).

The owner was unobtrusive, extremely delightful and helpful when needed.
This is an excellent, spacious, modern holiday home for 3 generations as we were. Good, quiet, downstairs twin bedded (we pushed them together with ease) room and a small shower room for the older couple. Upstairs three large bedrooms (one triple bedded), two with en suites and a large bathroom for the others. All the furnishings, bed linen, etc are good quality. Everyone remarked on the comfort of the beds. A wonderful outlook with lots of parking not obscuring the panoramic view. The games room is an absolute bonus, especially when, as we had, some very âmixedâ weather. Our only negative, not being walkers, was that Kerryâs Gate is fairly rural with limited attractions in a 30 min radius. None of us keen in spending much time in a car having got there. But it did enable a younger member to go down memory lane in south Shropshire with his wife and children matching family paintings of their village done in the 70s and 80s by great grandparents to the landscape as it now is. Much unchanged should you wonder. The Abbey at Abbey Dore, Owl and Small Breeds Centre (don't stroke the owl as suggested if you value your fingers!) and Hay on Wye worth a visit. A good time was had by all.

We went away for my mumâs 60 th birthday.
Everything we needed was at the cottage! There were plenty of kitchen utensils, cutlery, pans, cups, lively Prosecco glasses! Washing up liquid, bin bags and tea towels. There was a box of toys for he children, plenty of extra bedding, fans as it was very hot while we were there. Toilet roll and hand wash also available. So we had a great start to our weekend. The house was very clean and had a lovely feel to it, the photos really donât do it justice- itâs beautiful. There is space to play games outside and a picnic bench and bbq which we used. Itâs a very rural location which suited us. So handy to plan food in advance. We used the local chippy first night- about 3 mile away but quite a queue! Worth it though for the tasty fish!! Second day we went shopping to a supermarket. Great place to go for beautiful scenery and to get away from it all. The WiFi was unreliable which was only a problem when we were trying to google Things to do!! We had a brilliant time and I highly recommend this place for a holiday- you wonât be disappointment. Booking through Sykes was easy and hassle free too. Give it a go

The house was perfect for a multi-generation gathering for a family wedding held locally.
Plenty of bathrooms meant that there was no queueing on the day of the wedding! The kitchen was superbly equipped for feeding all of us on Friday night and for putting on a brunch on the Sunday for those staying, plus extra family members staying locally. The location and view from the property was superb. Narrow country lanes did not phase us at all. SatNav was brilliant for getting us to and from locations; however, we never came back the same way twice! We met Lindsey as we were departing and she was most friendly and chatty. I would have no hesitation in recommending the property for larger gatherings. The open plan living/dining/kitchen was brilliant for allowing us to socialise freely (it helped that the weather was kind and we could utilise the patio too). The photos do not do it justice, as the furniture has been changed since they were taken and it has a more modern feel downstairs now.
