What our customers say about their holidays
Frances - Verified booking
The listing on hotels.
Com doesnât mention the property is not accessible by road and states there is "free parking on site". We visited with a 7month old so had a lot of luggage - we would not have booked this cottage had we known prior to booking that we would not be able to access the property by car. It was also not clear that you have to climb a steep hill to get to the property, which again is difficult with a pram/lots of luggage. I suspect this would be near impossible in a wheelchair. The property had not been dusted well. We also found a clump of a previous guestsâ hair on the mat by the back door. The mattresses need replacing. The sheets on the bed in the front bedroom were too big so came off every night. The thin white curtains in the bedrooms do not block any light. Some of the kitchen knives are in desperate need of sharpening. There are two loose plug sockets - one back right in the dining room, and one to the left of the door as you enter the main bedroom (this one is extremely loose!). The smaller bedroom has a small amount of peeling wallpaper so needs a bit of glue, I appreciate this feedback sounds very critical, but I think a lot of these points could be resolved very quickly and cheaply/no cost (with exception of the mattresses). I think these issues being resolved would make a significant difference to the quality of a stay. We did appreciate the close proximity to the town which was a big positive. Added extras like a washing machine and blu-ray player were also both positives. The views from the garden were lovely with a good amount of space to relax outside.

A lovely house, which we've stayed in several times before.
However, on this occasion we felt let down by the standards we have come to expect from your company. Despite being told upon collection of the key that there may still be a 'checker' at the property, upon arrival we found a mouldy loaf of bread in the bread bin. Although switched on, the fridge temperature gauge was set to zero. We only realised this the following day, luckily, the 100 pounds worth of shopping we purchased the day before wasn't ruined ! We fail to understand why the fridge would be turned off, especially as we were told that the 'checker' would be checking that everything was switched on and working ready for our stay. There were issues in the bathroom this time - the toilet flusher was not working properly, and the bath panel was loose and kept falling off. The back door lock also needs some attention. We were a bit surprised when we received our 'reminder' email (one week before our stay) that it mentioned the need for a "Good Housekeeping Bond" of £200. There was no previous mention of this when we made our booking, although neither was it mentioned when we collected our key ! As mentioned, this is a lovely house we normally enjoy staying in, however, although these are only small issues, they did detract from the enjoyment of our holiday.

Not the cleaniest of the rooms upon arrival, as used tissues were found under the main bed and hair strands in the corner of the kitchen / living room.
The vacuum cleaner was found to be full and there was no vacuum cleaner nozzle attachment or dust pan available. The black bags provided to place used bed linen at end of stay seem too small. Tip/ Warning: something to keep the long seat along the back of the kitchen worktop away from the worktop wall would be recommended, as anyone tall can easily hit their back of their head on the very hard kitchen worktop edge when sitting down, OUCH!! The apartment was a good size, great to have a large upright fridge freezer. As the apartment could hold easily 5 persons, a 2nd set of keys would have been useful. A great week away for exploring the wider area, anyone who has trouble reversing a car along narrow roads should avoid this part of Devon! TIP: Fuel is more expensive in the area, IF travelling south along A38 enroute to Salcombe, call into TRAGO MILLS petrol station as its the cheapest in the area. A two vehicle group could have a problem with parking as only one parking space allocated, an arrangement with other apartments would help if not occupied? Beautiful place / location, best when the weather is good.

This a beautiful property that is warm, comfortable and well equipped. The views are lovely and it’s great to be so central to town and all its amenities. It was a treat to have The White Company products in the bathroom, and we loved the electric fireplace and cosy blankets - great for an October visit! It would have been the cherry on the cake to have a welcome pack with a some milk/essentials on arrival. We had a lovely few days there and enjoyed visiting Hope Cove, took the foot ferry to Mill Bay and walked along to Gara Rock - a lovely 3/4 mile walk. Also did a (hilly!) 5 mile run to Snapes Point, with nice views. Visited Burgh Island, Bigbury Beach, Bantham Beach and South Milton Sands - all well worth a visit! Went to The Victoria Inn for a good meal (you do need to book as it does get busy) and of course fish and chips! It can get a little noisy with the pub, upstairs guests and bin men, but that aside it was a lovely restful break! Thank you!

Generally very well equipped , especially the kitchen with enough crockery , glasses etc for 8 people and plenty of cooking equipment if you were planning to eat in .
Living room nicely furnished with attractive art making it feel very homely . Some of the bedroom furniture was chipped and could do with replacing and the bedroom carpets have seen better days . However , our main grumble was we did find the bathrooms very cramped and the basins really only suitable for hand washing . A pity there was not a proper standing shower in the ensuite ; it meant 4 adults sharing the shower in the very cramped 2nd bathroom . We've stayed in other Coombehaven properties before and not found an issue with the bathrooms . Shame there was no means of obtaining air at night other than opening the patio doors in the bedrooms thus risking the local wildlife walking in ; having them closed meant the bedrooms became very hot and stuffy even though it was not a warm week . Coombehaven is a very well maintained , central yet quiet development that we will at again but not at No. 4 .
