What our customers say about their holidays
Mike Clark - Verified booking
West Gorton My wife and I have been to this property 3 times before with our dogs and we enjoy the peace and quiet as well as the wonderful views. This time we found the property refurbished with a lovely new shower on the ground floor. The floors had also been refurbished – laminate flooring downstairs and new carpets upstairs. New double glazing in the two dormer windows and the bathroom window downstairs. All in all, there was a real improvement in the place. After settling in on our arrival, we tried to turn the heating on as it was quite cold, but it wouldn’t come on. Instead, we lit the open fire which was lovely. The hot water was intermittent – it came on and went off quickly with the result we had cold showers on the first two days of our holiday. We didn’t worry too much as we were warm with the open fire. The Sunday was quite cold for the time of year and again we tried the central heating and water, but it was the same problem. We called the owner who was excellent and she came up immediately and tried to sort the problem. In the end she got the plumber to come up early on the Monday morning. The problem was simply a lack of pressure in the system and was sorted there and then for which we were most grateful. From this point on there were no further issues with the hot water or central heating. We had a fabulous week at West Gorton weather-wise and we enjoyed our holiday there yet again. The rear garden was lovely to sit out in with the picnic table. The entire perimeter is well fenced and safe for our two Golden Retrievers to be let out. On previous visits, the picnic table was at the front of the cottage enjoying the views of the Cairngorms. A few comments though if we may? Despite the major refurbishment, there were a few minor comments we should like to make. My wife is a truly excellent cook and we do like to have the best of both worlds by eating in and at the same time going out to local restaurants. The cooker at West Gorton is extremely old and, in our opinion, badly needs replacing – a solid hob and would be very expensive to run in this day and age and the cost of a new induction hob would almost be recovered in energy savings in just one year. The temperature markings for the oven are totally obliterated with all the cleaning and wear and tear over the years and it was impossible to work out what the real temperature of the oven actually was and so was hit and miss with the cooking. Likewise with all the solid hob rings were old and difficult to control again with no markings to tell you which hob was on and it was trial and error to find out which ring was actually on or not as the case may be. They take ages to heat up and cool down for cleaning purposes and are exceptionally difficult to control. The toilet seats also need attention – the one upstairs has only one out of four “buffers” which prevent the lower lid coming into direct contact with the porcelain bowl of the WC and in the case of the toilet downstairs, the lower lid won’t stay upon its own. Two very simple items to fix, but important ones in our opinion. My wife and I stay in a large number of dog friendly cottages all over the UK and feel that we do have many comparisons from which to draw and base our opinions. Most cottage lets have a very comprehensive notes and instructions on the running of the premises including the heating etc which we didn’t get at West Gorton. Although there are the very basic guidance notes left pinned to a notice board, there are no detailed instructions regarding the heating controls etc which is a pity. The Wi-Fi which is done through a dongle is very expensive and not very practical in this day and age. There are very few cottage lets now which don’t supply free Wi-Fi and although there is a very good 4G signal at West Gorton, the Wi-Fi is a very important issue in this day and age – even on holiday when one is finding out information about the surrounding area! Despite what would appear to be a few negative comments, we did have a lovely holiday and as you can see from the number of times we have been here, we do love it!

Vielen herzlichen Dank!

Absolutely loved our stay at Larch Cottage .
The cottage was so warm and cosy. We actually switched off all of the radiators as was warm enough without heating on. Loved the walk in shower and underfloor heating downstairs. 2 lovely big comfy sofas in living room, one each. The views from all of the windows are priceless, stunning colours on the trees in autumn. Open the velux and you can hear all of the birds and at night you can hear the hoot of owls all around . We took our little dog and she loved it, so many walks on the doorstep. Walked into Aberfeldy town, walked the riverside, along to Castle Menzies to name a few. Drove to Kenmore, along Loch Tummel and the scenery is spectacular & breathtaking, especially in Autumn. There are walks for all abilities, gentle to full on hiking into the hills and forests. We brought all of our own food as the cottage is well equipped for cooking, but there are supermarkets in Aberfeldy if needed. It was just such a tonic, the cottage, the scenery, I didn't want to go home.

Lovely cottage in a beautiful, secluded location. We stayed here a couple of weeks ago and were fortunate to have hot and sunny weather all week. The cottage is surrounded by open fields and woodland and we saw many deer from the back garden. A stone track leads from Dreggie to the cottage and there are many miles of safe walking from the cottage where you can see, if you are lucky, all sorts of wildlife. Whilst head room in the upstairs bedroom and bathroom is a little low especially if you are quite tall, downstairs is spacious and comfortable. The cottage provides a really good shower, washing machine and drying line outside, fridge and separate freezer, dining table, open fire and firing and TV etc. The owner Scilla came to chat with us when we first arrived, and made us feel very welcome. She also provided some good local knowledge to help us make the best of our stay. Overall, a beautifully scenic, enjoyable and relaxing stay!

Idyllic holiday cottage in beautiful location; for those that love peace and quiet and want to get away from it all, West Gorton is perfect. Comfortable beds, hot shower or bath, cozy fireplace and well equipped kitchen. Sounds of sheep and pheasants the only sounds. Less than ten minutes drive to the lovely little town of Grantown-On-Spey and from there wonderful walks in Anagach Woods. Walks from the doorstep too are absolutely delightful. We fell in love with West Gorton and the Cairngorms. My dog is always on the lead and he had the best time on all the walks we went on. The owner is lovely and friendly; we only happened to meet her when she popped by to check the tank outside. Cannot rate this cottage highly enough; it was a dream stay for us especially its sense of remoteness and rurality but this will not suit everyone! We very much hope to visit again.
