  Beautifully maintained apartment, gorgeous high ceilings from a bygone era, furniture was very comfortable, especially the bed.

  So important to have a comfortable bed when away from home. Lovely bathroom too, very spacious and clean. Good quality kitchen tools and equipment, the only thing I'd say was missing was a 'normal' frying pan rather than the wok styled pan. (We actually bring our own as we often find frying pans are not fit for use). A liner for the grill pan would have been appreciated, as it happens, we bring our own foil to do this with but some cottage owners do put a liner in the base of the grill pan. It was a real home from home as we spent all day Monday in the apartment as it was The Queen's funeral so a real test of homeliness. We also had to buy food to cook as there was nowhere open on Monday evening (due to Queen's funeral) so the grill and hob really did a great job. One extra dishwashing tablet would have been handy. The only thing we found 'odd' was the coat hook in the hallway - it must've been put up by a very tall man as my 6ft 2 hubby struggled to reach it and at 5ft 1 I had no chance! We liked the balcony too but didn't use it much. We rarely ever revisit the same place but if we were to revisit Ilfracombe we'd happily look to rent this apartment again. It feels spacious, homely and is very clean. Big tick!

  Suellen and Pete are superb hosts at Uplands.

  The accommodation is comfortable, clean, quiet and superb views over Dorset green fields and woodland. Our daughter loved the farm. The Guinea fowl, ducks, geese, chickens, peacocks, horses, cats and dogs - very charming having this area to explore and enjoy. Suellen and Pete showed us round many times. The local pub (The Griffins Head) was very friendly, but worth calling ahead to ensure it’s open and to book. We had a fantastic Sunday lunch there, really reasonable for dinner and pudding. NB. only takes cash though - very old school! Lovely walks around Over Compton and Nether Compton and very close to Sherborne which is a lovely town for shopping and eating out. We also had days out at Lyme Regis and Beer which took about an hour to get to, but worth it. We also visited the National Trusts Montacute House and gardens just the other side of Yeovil. That was also worth a visit to see how the Elizabethans lived. The castles at Sherborne are beautiful and the garden centre there is definitely worth a visit too. Uplands is a great base and was very relaxing.

  Lin communicated really well via email and provided all the necessary details.

  I mentioned it was my wife’s birthday and on arrival we were met with a card, birthday banners, flowers and a bottle of fizz. Lin introduced herself and showed us around the apartment explaining how to use electronic blinds, bi-fold doors and cooker hood. The sofas and bed were super comfy, lots of space for clothes in the bedroom. The view is spot on and the parking space is near the door so it’s easy to move your cases to the apartment as it’s on the ground floor. We had a fantastic stay and would suggest the following, the bedroom could do with blackout blinds as the bedroom gets light very early, ideally a Smart TV as the TV was freeview only so no Netflix, Prime Video etc.., the apartment has a wonderful sized patio but no permanent table and chairs to sit on although the apartment pictures did show a rattan table & chairs. There were lightweight fold up chairs/table available which needed to be packed away after each use, it would be lovely to eat outside and watch the sunset but it’s not ideal on foldaway furniture.

  Great accommodation, however the listing on the Sykes website could have been more comprehensive regarding facilities.

  For example, no washing machine was listed, so we had to ask Lin, the lovely housekeeper if one was available (it was). We also felt it would have been good to have access to either a DVD player or basic catch-up tv (those available on free view) as we had a couple of evenings where the weather wasn’t good and it would have been nice to have been able to watch a movie. Had we known neither would be available, we could have brought our own. It would also have been useful to know from the listing that there is only one parking space available at the flat. Again, the lovely Lin filled us in, but only because I had asked. These are just small niggles that could easily be remedied with small additions to the listing on the website. But otherwise this was a great apartment. Fantastic location, beautiful view. Very comfortable and well equipped. Lin was super and very welcoming. We enjoyed it very much and would recommend it to others.

  On approach to the property we were impressed by the curb appeal compared to its neighbours.

  Accessing the carpark was a little challenging but the space was adequate for our small car. Entering the building we were impressed by the quality of decor and furnishings and this continued as we entered the apartment, all appliances and soft furnishings were of good quality and in almost new condition. The rooms were all very spacious and there was ample storage. The extra small touches of wine, water and soft drinks, tea, coffee etc. and fresh flowers were a lovely added suprise. When settling in on our first evening we were disappointed by the level of noise. The single glazed windows meant that conversations could easily be heard from passing pedestrians and the almost continuous road noise was only made less prominent by the noise of Royal Mail vehicles reversing up the steep hill alongside the building any time from 7.30am! Such a shame as if the property had secondary glazing fitted our review would be 5 star.
