  Due to the fact that our Internet connection was repeatedly on our way and our route planner was unreliable, we had a lot of trouble finding the house, despite the fact that we had received the coordinates. In addition, we were severely delayed by ferry and file. However, the owner kept us in touch - every time we were able to connect by telephone - very patiently, just as long as we reached the house (one hour late). Despite the raining rain and the late time we were warmly welcomed in a lovely Cottage with every possible comfort, from power adapters to hair dryer and any imaginable type of kitchenware. Milk in the fridge, beautiful bouquets on the table, a lovely wood stove lit directly for us, hiking maps and all kinds of tourist information. A warm welcome to a delicious, green, quiet place!   Our second stay at Churchlands, this time in the Old Cowshed minus our dog, last time in Glebe Cottage with our dog. Very comfortable and spacious accommodation, the French oak beams are beautiful and give the interior a period feel, while having modern comforts such as underfloor heating and a hot tub outside. The location is idyllic, very peaceful, with far reaching views of Romney Marsh and over to the Kent Downs. There is a lovely pub - The Ferry Inn - about a kilometre from the property which is great for dinner, or enjoying the golden hour with a drink. I'd recommend Churchlands as a well located base to explore West Kent and East Sussex, or just somewhere to relax. I'm sure we'll be back again in the future.

  Whilst we have always accepted on our dog friendly accommodation previously booked that our dog is not allowed in our bedroom. We found it unacceptable that our dog was not allowed upstairs at all as the lounge and television room was upstairs and meant leaving our dog alone downstairs. This was very distressing for her. On holiday lets of this type we feel that the regulation should be that a dog is just not allowed in the bedroom. This was an exceptional facility and our holiday should not have been spoilt in this manner. I would recommend this property to a friend but in our opinion the layout does not lend itself to taking a dog although the garden is excellent and secure.

  We had a great week staying at The Apple Barn, helped by the good weather. Although compact, the kitchen was very well equipped, the bed was comfy and there was a good shower; the attention to detail overall was appreciated. I wrongly assumed that as it wasn't on a main road or in a village it would be a quiet location, so was somewhat surprised how busy the road was resulting in traffic noise from very early in the morning. Great location for visiting places such as Sissinghurst, Scotney Castle and Bodiam etc by car but difficult to explore from the cottage by foot or on bike due to the busy country lanes and lack of linking non-overgrown footpaths.

  We can recommend beautiful walks and bird lovers, we really enjoyed two walks along the RMC. The first day we walked to Appledore along the right hand side of the canal and saw several swans, a kingfisher, reed warblers, white throats, chiffchaffs, and heard two nightingales and several cuckoos. We also heard a great number of marsh frogs. Wednesday we walked down the left hand side of the canal and heard and saw two turtle doves, heard a nightingale, saw longtail tits, a pied flycatcher, and heard hundreds of marsh frogs. We have enjoyed seeing the woodpeckers on the feeders and the beautiful bluebells in the forest. Thank you!
