What our customers say about their holidays
Mark - Verified booking
We recently stayed at Gwyn Cottage in April for 2 nights, of a 7 nights booking.
When we arrived the cottage was freezing cold, the old storage heater which was set at the lowest number was simply inadequate for the lounge & dinning room, which then leads directly into the kitchen, there is a radiator in the kitchen but this is located by the back door which was also on the lowest setting. We tried several times to put the storage heater up, but this did not work. There is a log burner in the lounge, but no promised supply of fire lighters, which we had to go out in the pouring rain & purchase ourselves. (Please note there is no parking at the cottage the lane is far too narrow, you can only unload your bags. You then have to try & find a car space in the village, which proved to be difficult for the two days we were there). Please note the front garden is a shared garden with another neighbour on the opposite side next door. The log burner would have been great for heating the cottage as we have one at home, but I was recovering from a severe chest infection & having the fire lite proved to be difficult. There should be alternative adequate heating available in either central heating or other. There is also very limited hot water, set for 1 hour per day in the mornings, please note if you have a bath in the morning you are then without hot water for the rest of the day. The cottage is old & dated with a mixture of very old & old furniture. The kitchen is very basic with a kettle, toaster, microwave & fridge freezer, that is it. There is very little in the way of storage & counter space. The cooker was very dirty & the top had not been cleaned, we have taken lots of photos of everything we encountered & to evidence everything. There were also spiders & webs in a lot of the rooms. It is the start of the season & we would expect that the cottage would be really clean & warm. We attempted for 2 days to knock next door, where the advertised caretaker lives to try & resolve the heating & hot water issue but to no avail. Whilst out in the garden having coffee on the Monday morning we saw a Rat come out from under the summer house in the garden & run down towards the open french doors to the kitchen, it then ran down the side of the house. We again tried the caretaker next door but to no avail, & decided to contact the owner. She was very apologetic & explained that the caretaker had been away at a family celebration & wouldnât be back for a couple of days. The owner explained that she would arrange for the caretaker to come and see us when they were back & turn up the heating & extend the hot water availability, & arrange for poison to be put down & for some netting to be placed around the summer house to stop the Rats getting into the garden. Although the owner was apologetic & polite, she didnât seem to grasp the seriousness of the situation. How she imagined that we would want to stay with Rats in the garden, as well as poison being laid and the risk to our little dogs, is beyond us. We contacted Sykes straight away & paid for a second cottage & moved that day. We messaged the owner & explained that this situation was not acceptable to us & that we were moving to another cottage & would be seeking a full refund. Throughout her messages, which we have saved, She was quite hesitant to discuss our refund, until we made it very clear that we would be contacting environmental health & the council. Suffice to say we received our full refund the following morning. We would NOT recommend this cottage for obvious reasons.

Beatiful setting and gardens The outdoor wooden room very comfy chairs great to sit in and read .
Very comfy bed.Overlong curtains caused an accident. .No comfortable chair To sit in to watch tv only wicker iron dining chairs covered by fluffy white sheepskins. After a day out I enjoy watching TV from a comfy chair and about 8 some nibbles.Idont.like watching TV from bed or eating snacks inbed but understand this is personal 7 sheepskins in an area you approximately 35 ft.by 10 feet to accommodate sleeping area dining and cooking including sidetables bookcase and bedside tables so small.Despite leaving switch on longer no water sufficiently hot to wash greasy dishes kept running cold as it did in bathroom sink.3 cupboards of China one narrow cupboard for food The shoser came apart on day 3 when I tried to cleansoap dish.slide doordoes not slide so water fromShower gets through. quite a space.storage.smallfridge although room for a taller one.Food storage difficult for 7 days yet alone nine. Cooking a faff as no hob or oven set up apart from microwave oven which was not cooking through properly have to set up equipment and store back. Again personal choice I'd provide Cornish scones from post office in pack rather than Lidle nationwide ones.A welcome binder would be really useful. Fresh flowers all around in garden but about five poor plastic plants in barn. Clothes washing difficult had to boil kettle for dishes and clothes couldnot find basket to carry clothes to line.

What a wonderful home from home Crift Farm Cottage is.
Beautifully decorated, good quality furnishings, bed linens, and all spotlessly clean. The garden is great for dogs and kids and the hot tub a HUGE bonus for the adults! We had everything that we needed for a great holiday. It was good to have Donna close by for recommendations for walks and trips out. The village pub, The Crown, just under new management is welcoming and serves great food. Although there are no shops in the village, when arriving to the cottage from the A390 there are 2 farm shops (the one in the village is a community enterprise I think so worth supporting) Sainsbury's also deliver if you want to order shopping online. The nearest convenience shop is in Parr about 10 mins drive. Parr Beach is also good for the dogs, they have run of the place all year round. Download the Just Park App so you're not caught out without change for the meter but it is free after 5pm. Lanlivery is well placed for visits to either coast. about 15 ins from Bodmin too. We really enjoyed our stay and cannot fault Crift Farm Cottage at all. Thank you Donna.

Charming cottage, well-equipped and very clean.
Provisions of tea, milk and delicious cake on arrival were much appreciated! Pretty garden, secure for dogs. Parking was never an issue, we used the parking area at the end of the lane, opposite the pub. Helpful folder of local advice and instructions. Some nice touches, such as dog towels for muddy paws, not that we needed them, being blessed with a mostly sunny week! The stair gates were useful to keep our dogs downstairs. It was also good that the owners provided all the Ecover products that are suitable for use with a septic tank. The only minor quirk was the hot water, which took 36hrs to heat up after running a bath. Not a problem for us, we used the electric shower instead. We've stayed in enough old cottages to know there's always a quirk somewhere! Overall, we very much enjoyed our stay and found this to be an ideal base for exploring the local area and north coast beaches.

Can highly recommend Gwynn cottage.
Perfect location, tucked away but in easy reach of the coast and moors. A week just wasnât long enough. The cottage itself is beautifully well maintained with everything you would need. It was cosy and warm, with use of an open log fire if needed. Lovely attention to detail. We even had all our shopping delivered as most of the large supermarkets cover the area. There is a lovely village pub at the end of the road and plenty of walks if you are taking dogs. There were plenty of dog towels provided (we had taken our own just in case) and a very secure back garden too. Itâs easy enough to drive up to the cottage to unload etc and plenty of street parking nearby. We never had any issues. If you need anything the owners are very prompt at replying. We will definitely be back again.
