What our customers say about their holidays
Andrew - Verified booking
Gabrianne is a pleasant holiday let which we found to be spacious, clean and well equipped.
Pretty much your standard holiday let weâd say. Itâs well located for exploring the area and has a couple of decent pubs a short walk away. We only used the two double bedrooms one of which was of was of adequate size but the smaller one was a tighter squeeze. The beds were very comfortable. The twin beds and bunk beds were not used so canât comment on them. We did note though that two of the rooms lacked adequate facilities for hanging clothes which would be a helpful improvement. The kitchen was fitted with modern units and appliances with plenty storage space for groceries. There was lots of cutlery, crockery and ovenware (although one or two oven trays could do with replacing as they were a bit tatty). A huge fridge and a separate small freezer (but perfectly adequate for most holiday needs we thought). The conservatory is a pleasant place and which we used in the main. Had the weather been cooler then the lounge would also have been a comfortable space. The dining room (open plan to the lounge) with a good sized table was also up to the job. There was plenty of information available about the local area and a good library of maps which we made use of. Thereâs also enough entertainment technology to suit most needs. The rear garden is a good size and private with open fields beyond. However, given Dorset is one of the prettiest parts of the country, it does lack some real TLC. Itâs pretty much just a âcloverâ lawn with a few bedraggled plants hither and thither. With just a little more care to make it a more attractive area it could be a huge asset to the property! It probably suits families with children or dog owners as it wouldnât suffer too much damage though so maybe thatâs the reason? We had a problem with the cold water supply to the bathrooms and previous occupiers had also commented on this. The water was literally just âdrippingâ out of the upstairs taps when we arrived. Dream Cottages arranged for a plumber to attend, which he did, but in the meantime we discovered the cold water feed from the cold tank in the loft had been turned off. When turned on the cold water flow was sufficient and perfectly acceptable but it is not direct from the mains (as it is in the kitchen) and also not potable (only the kitchen is potable). Weâd suggest this should be pointed out in the information file for the house. Overall, a good holiday let. Thank you.

Thank you for the welcome pack - much appreciated.
House was in a good spot, perfectly placed for our Coast Path walking. It was just the right size for three sisters, and easy to warm up. Kitchen better equipped than some larger houses we've stayed in. Bus stop on the road right outside the complex was really useful. When we had an issue with finding the light switch (!) the Sykes out-of-hours respondent was super helpful - thanks. A couple of things would make it even more comfortable: There's a strong smell of dog, which must be fairly constant given the Febreze provided. If you got rid of the throws on the sofas, it would help a lot. We didn't use the bigger sofa at all as the smell was so strong. The mattress on the small double is the squeakiest I've ever encountered. A folder of info about the house itself - eg. how the cooker, microwave etc work, would be more useful than the Lyme Bay generic folder. In fact, we were confused to find that the house is managed by LB Hols when we'd booked via Sykes. I'm sure there's a good reason, but it would be good to be told. Thanks.

The counting house is in a perfect central West Bay location - it’s a short walk to any of the amenities. With that convenience comes a parking challenge although the space outside the garage door provides effective space for one car. The house is very large downstairs and all the bedrooms are decent size. Beds were ok but lacked support making sleep that little bit harder on warm nights. It can be a little noisy at night as traffic passes by and seagulls make their noises. The kitchen is well equipped, double oven plus grill and hob and separate microwave. Decent dining space inside. Lounge is also a decent size. Outside, we liked the garden dry/beach style. There is a large dining table with chairs but no parasol which was unhelpful as the garden is a sun trap and is regularly dropped-on by the legions of seagulls who hang out on most roofs. We would also have appreciated a barbecue to help with alfresco living when the sun shone.

Whilst we all had an enjoyable stay at the property which catered for all of our adult family needs.
However I would reiterate the complaint posted online by a previous user in August 2024 the property was not totally cleaned and the shower areas were grubby and dirty with evidence of black mould in the first floor shower area. Also i noted there was dust and dirt/grime adjacent washing machine on skirting and floor, in the main bedroom there was thick dust behind bedside cabinets which became evident whilst accessing the plug sockets. I raised the issue of cleanliness as posted by previous user a week prior to our visit and was assured this had been addressed and that special attention would be made prior to our visit to ensure it had been resolved. Clearly you have a problem with cleaning and management of your properties as this is the second time I have had occasion to complain of cleanliness, the first being when we visited Weymouth two years ago. I am unsure about future holiday bookings with Sykes or your associated companies.

Just a couple of notes of feedback: we arrived with a tub of ice cream for the children and a bag of ice for drinks, all of which had to be wasted because there wasnât a freezer, or even a freezer compartment in the fridge.
It might be worth addressing that, or at least making it very clear in the notes that there is no freezer compartment, as youâd always expect one. A smaller point of feedback is that there are no mirrors (and not many plug points) in the bedrooms. Making it much clearer that the log burner is not for guest use might be useful too, as people booking in colder weather might specifically choose the property because it had one (we do that in colder months). Otherwise the property was great: super clean, well equipped, a nice layout, a fab enclosed garden for children and pets, and we were blown away by the location - you should make more mention of that on the particulars as being walking distance to a good beach, places to eat, a lovely gastropub, walks / fields, a park, a river for the children etc... we couldnât have asked for more!
