What our customers say about their holidays

So myself and our 2 friends stayed at this lovely little cottage in Windermere.
Our first impressions were quite awe inspiring...from when we left the road and drove into the drive way of the property, and saw the immense flint lined structure in front of us. We truly felt that we had arrived at our home from home from the first look. Time and dedication to the local landscape had clearly been taken from the front door step to the rustic garage doors, and the modernised double glazing windows that just blended in. If first opinions were not enough, we then entered the house, and was like kids in a sweetshop searching for what rooms we were going to set roost in for the week...all 3 of the rooms are spacious doubles, with the added benefit of a single bunk bed allowing to sleep up to 7 guests comfortably. Each of the rooms had their own en-Suite shower rooms, all refurbished to a high quality and standard. On top of this, there was a digital TV in each room, enough to allow every guest the freedom to watch what they preferred. By far the 2 most impressive rooms were the lounge, and the kitchen. The lounge was adorned with comfortable sofas, enough for families to snuggle up to, elegant lighting to allow the mood setting for any TV show, a quality soundbar on the TV which adds to the viewing pleasure, and good wifi that extended throughout the house.- The patio doors extended the size of the room onto the terrace area, enough space for a BBQ or a brunch setting in the warmer months. In my opinion, the room of the house is the kitchen...it is plenty big enough with a huge dining table, and all of the amenities you could need....and yes of course, another TV screen to watch the news while having breakfast. We used this room the most as we played our games on the table, the seating was so comfortable, and even in the snowy month of March, it was warm enough and cosy. The garage forms part of a wet access to the house, and has a boot change area leading to the kitchen. A great addition to reduce flow of muddy boots and paw prints through the house. The location of the house is circa. 8 mins walk to Windermere, and 14mins walk to Bowness...both little towns have beautiful shops and cafes, enough to keep everyone happy. My rating of this cottage is 5 stars...I cannot mark down for anything at all...it was clean, inviting and comfortable. Thanks so much to the hosts for having made this cottage available. It is clearly something they are very proud of, and I would definitely go back. Cannot recommend enough.

The cottage was beautifully furnished, warm and comfortable but the lack of housekeeping stock and the âhouse rulesâ did not give an overall welcoming feeling of relaxation or luxury holiday.
For example - no detergent for the washing machine (in the countryside, wet muddy walks, in winter?), peppermill was empty, torch batteries flat or low, no spare toilet rolls, single small discs of packet soap in bathrooms with no refills, a single replacement bin liner only, outside shed bulb not working. As a pet friendly cottage, comments such as âObviously dogs are not allowed upstairs or on the furnitureâ and âthere must be NO evidence of dogs left in the property on vacatingâ feel quite disrespectful to guests and assumes the worst of them. The 9am checkout is early and difficult to rationalise particularly when the guest is expected to do most of the tidying. To be packed up, beds stripped, house ordered, had breakfast and on your way, under the threat of leaving not a single dog hair, by 9am on the final morning makes your last day a very early start and/or takes up much of the previous evening. Things like this detract from what could have been a really enjoyable and relaxing stay. Whilst we appreciate all prices have increased, the cost for ensuring usable items are well stocked and refilled should be a reasonable inclusion to the overall cost. The cottage is not cheap and for this tariff, we really would not expect to feel penny pinched and unfortunately it engenders a degree of dissatisfaction. Initial supply of logs is as stated in the description, but again, refills require a car journey to stock up and in our experience cottages of this cost and marketed as luxury would have extra logs on site and available. The village pub is excellent and well worth returning to, the location is good for local attractions, walking from the door is good if without wanting to let your dogs off lead but requires walking across a lot of sheep fields or the road to get to better dog suitable walks. Overall a very lovely property but not the luxury relaxed holiday ambience we were anticipating. Lots of positives but definitely some areas to reflect on to improve the user experience or expectations

The cottage had a terrible smell in the lounge which got worse when the window in the lounge was closed.
Although we had a dog with us the lounge made all our party feel really itchy and especially if we sat on the sofas. The carpet in the lounge was covered in dog hair as my socks were covered in hair. Carpet not tbest in a house suitable for 2 dogs. Very small kitchen, not the best accessories available either and not full sets of crockery. The gate to the bottom of the stairs was a very unusual feature!! Thereâs no photos of this on the listing, I wonder why?? The gate has a polite notice that dogs are not allowed upstairs. I donât think this a necessary feature. Large bedrooms, fitted wardrobes has basic shelving inside there was an extension to the top of the dressing table? En-suite in main bedroom, the shower was grubby. The house was dated, decorated very basic, which wouldnât be a problem if it was clean. There was no way we could have spent any quality time in the house, especially the lounge as mentioned above. We stayed at the property for one night and then came home on the Sunday. None of my family wanted to stay there. We have used the company for many years and this is the worst property we have stayed in. It wasnât cheap, and I will not allow my family to stay in sub standard properly when you donât feel comfortable with the surroundings. I did ring heart of the lakes to advise that we had left the property after one night and was told to make a complaint, no information was taken from me. I do not recommend this property at all and the owner needs to spend money to upgrade as there are far better properties in the same street which put it to shame.

Although we are regular visitors to Grasmere and have stayed at other cottages or hotels, this was our first visit to Field Foot Cottage.
We chose this cottage because we had our dog with us on this occasion. The cottage is not easy to find as it is hidden away in a side lane by the Lakes Art Shop near the Co-Op store. It is, however, central and in a quiet location. As other reviewers have said, there is a covered parking space for 1 car behind the cottage, but the space is tight and it takes some manouvering to get the car in. The cottage itself met all our needs. The kitchen is a reasonable size with good facilities; excellent range of utensils, effective cooker, dishwasher and washing machine. The living room is small but cosy and with good maps / books for local walks. We used the bedroom in the attic conversion with a large space, comfortable bed and good en suite. However, the staircase from the first floor to the attic conversion was steep and may be an issue for those less certain on their feet. The central heating was effective, although we often had to override the programmed temperatures. We were disappointed that there was no handwash provided and only one toilet roll per bathroom. Fortunately, we had brought our own which was just as well as the Co-Op store had run out of stocks in the current climate. Also, we were unable to find an Information Booklet in the property. This meant that we got to use the central heating, cooker, washing machine and dishwasher through trial and error which is not ideal. Also although not an issue for us, first time visitors to Grasmere would appreciate information / recommendations on local restaurants / tea rooms etc Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would return again
