What our customers say about their holidays
Stuart - Verified booking
We booked Aislaby Hall for a 3 generation family holiday ages 22-83.
Aislaby itself was a good base for exploring the area, close to the park and ride into Whitby, plus the bonus of a great pub (The Forge) on the doorstep. The accommodation was very spacious and ideal for large groups. The kitchen was well equipped with the welcome milk, bread, eggs and biscuits a lovely touch. On the ground floor there is also a lovely dining room , a sitting room, a WC, a room set up as a childrens playroom plus a conservatory with pool table, darts board etc. There are stunning views over the valley so it is such a shame that 2 laurels completely blocked the view from the sitting room. The staircase is stunning with numerous eyes from the many portraits on the landing watching your every move, The 3 large bedrooms (2 en suite) and two twin rooms plus a family bathroom with separate WC offer plenty of space upstairs. Since booking the accommodation our parents mobility had declined so a couple of things were an issue so should be considered if planning a trip here. Firstly all the showers are over the bath which unfortunately was an issue for especially my Mum. Maybe if there are future upgrades at least one walk in shower would be beneficial. Secondly, and less of an issue, was some of the seating in the sitting room were very low to the ground which the parents would never be able to get up from. We got around this by moving a nice 2 seater settee from the unused childrens room into the sitting room. The conservatory games room provided alot of fun during the week. Yes the pool table has seen better days and there is a bit of a slope on it but we had a great time putting it to good use. Parking is on the drive in drive out driveway so be prepared for lots of car moving each morning if members of your party are leaving at different times. There are 2 areas of gravel that you were supposed to be able to park on but very large planters had been positioned on each preventing their use. Finally the rear gardens of the property are shared with an attached apartment. We only met the 2 elderly occupants shortly after arrival. Rather than a polite introduction we got a "we hope you are not going to be rowdy"! Obviously not familiar with Northern hospitality!

We were two families, with 6 teen or pre-teen children between us, and this house provided an ideal place for a communal holiday.
There is masses of space inside, which is conveniently laid out, and the garden and surrounding area was perfect for games of hide and seek. In quieter moments the views across the dale are peaceful and we were fortunate to have sunshine almost every day to enjoy the seats outside the kitchen. There were some wonderful sunsets too. We went on a few walks locally but the main place the children enjoyed was the ford and meadow more or less at the bottom of the drive. (One thing we should have done was to bring a map with us; there are masses of footpath signs but the paths aren't always very clear on the ground and we were unable to find the promised map in the house.) We had a few trips to local places - Middleham Castle, Jervaulx Abbey, Masham and others - which we all enjoyed. There is a huge amount to see in the local area. You have to get used to the single track access in Coverdale, though. On the day we left the road in the direction of Leyburn was blocked which meant we needed to go up the valley to join the A1. This can easily add an hour to the journey. But we enjoyed the peace and the relaxation which the house offers; it is not a place to come and rush about! Thank you for letting us stay in the house, which we would highly recommend. All of the joining information was friendly and helpful and we were made to feel very welcome from the start.

Great house, great location and great communication from the owners.
The house has plenty of room, is very well equipped and even though there is no specific parking spot it really wasn't an issue to find a space close by and the parking scratch cards are great - much appreciated, as was the welcome pack! The beds, pillows and mattresses are super comfortable and clean. The bedding and towels spotless! My only (hopefully constructive) comment would be that although the bedrooms and living room were very clean, the kitchen and bathroom were not as good. There was black mould in the washer drawer and in the shower cubicle, and a build up of hard water staining on the bathroom taps - all easy to rectify. The fridge needed to be wiped out before we used it and there was dirty fluff stuck to the bottom of the kitchen table benches when we pulled them out to use. None of this spoiled our stay and I would highly recommend this property. It's really close to the main high street and all the shops, you're spoilt for choice which bay to walk to as both are equally as close and it's close to all the road links to travel out of Scarborough. Thanks for making our week in Scarborough so enjoyable!

Ideally situated for visiting both the coast and the North York moors.
We stayed as a family party of 10 + 2 dogs and had a very enjoyable time for the week away - even the weather was kind to us. Property itself is very spacious with a very modern kitchen with all the facilities you would require. Also has a good games room and childrenâs play area to keep the youngsters amused. Views from the living room and kitchen are excellent. The original house is quite old and if we were being pedantic we felt that there were a few little things that perhaps required a bit of tlc but these did not detract from our stay . Situated in the centre of the village and opposite a very friendly pub we had an excellent family gathering and would not hesitate to return . To be recommended if youâre looking for a large house for a special event

We really enjoyed our stay at Maggie May in Whitby. The house is beautiful and we immediately felt at home. It has everything a house should have, from cooking utensils to washing machine and dryer, dish washer, tv, beautiful decorations and a spacious garden. The house was immaculately clean when we arrived. Checking in and out was pretty straight forward. The house is very close from all of Whitby's main streets and attractions (less than 10 min walk), but far enough to make it feel peaceful and quiet. The street is calm and quiet at night and we felt safe and relaxed all the time. Would definitely recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a holiday home in Whitby.
