What our customers say about their holidays

The cottage location is stunning, and is beautiful externally.
Inside when we arrived the cottage smelt so bad we nearly didnât stay. The furniture and decor are very dated. There were dead flies in the net curtains. The 2 armchairs felt damp when sitting on them so we had to sit on towels. The smell was nauseous. We were extremely tired after a very long drive from Lincolnshire and went to bed. This actually was the saving grace. We both slept extremely well so probably felt less upset when we awoke. We drove into Wooler and purchased air freshener and bleach from the coop. The smell started to get better (or we were getting used to it). The location is perfect for visiting the rest of Northumberland and on our return on an evening we sat in the garden listening to the wildlife and nature. Kate was lovely and friendly so we didnât complain to her, nothing could be done and it wasnât because of anything she hadnât done that we felt like we did. If the cottage was updated we would be back in a heartbeat. I would recommend the setting, cottages etc but the inside does let itself down Iâm afraid.

The cottage was clean and warm.
However, the headboards on the beds were loose and banged about a bit especially if you were trying to read. We couldn't tighten the screws as the thread was worn out. The lighting throughout the cottage was poor. I struggled to read in the living room because the lamp was not in a convenient position for the seating. And, as the room had limited natural light, we needed the lights all the time. Worst of all I would say was the bathroom. Although it matched what was specified in the description we never expected a handheld spray as a way to take a shower. This did not work, if you put the spray above the height of the bath taps water shot out like a fountain. whilst pretty it was not functional. I can no longer get out of a bath easily and had expected a fixed shower over a bath so this was very disappointing. The environment was very quiet and kept clean.

The cottage was clean and tidy.
However, there is no 'over the bath shower' as in the description, only a rubber shower hose that does not fit on the taps. Someone from another cottage was parked outside the sitting room window of our cottage - we felt this intruded into our privacy. As a previous review said, there was only 2 mugs, glasses, etc, which meant you had to wash up a late evening drink in order to be ready for a cuppa in the morning. We felt that the towel radiator in the bathroom was dangerous - although there is a small sign saying that it is hot, I came away with 3 burns on my arms from putting things over the towel rail. The storage heater in the bathroom is impossible to use - it's right next to the toilet, so for any heat you need the towel rail on. For an older person, perhaps unsteady on their feet, there is a real risk of serious injury.

Lovely cottage in the grounds of the hotel.
The cottage was very clean, well appointed and bright and airy. The beds were comfortable and rooms quiet. The second bedroom is quite small so more suitable for children. The lounge was comfortable and the kitchen beautifully appointed. It was good having an upright fan for warmer days. There is a gravel area outside with a table bench. We liked that the hotels lovely lawned beer garden just a stroll away. We ate three times in the hotel. The food is very good and there was a special board most days. The staff are all very friendly and always made us feel very welcome. It is also just a short walk into Wooler where there are several hotels and restaurants. Milans Italian is great. Fish and chip shop and lovely shops. All in all an excellent base to explore Northumberland, would recommend.

We stayed at the cottage last year and really enjoyed it We rebooked for September and once again loved staying there Before leaving we booked up for my birthday in December As soon as I walk through the door I feel at home The cottage is well equipped and I found everything I needed there The outside space is great with parking at the front and sitting area round the back It's very dog friendly /safe Locally it has some lovely places to visit and Wooler has a good high st with independent shops If I was to say anything negative about the cottage it's that the toilets are down stairs This however did not cause us any problems I would certainly recommend staying here if your planning to visit Northumberland
