What our customers say about their holidays
Kate - Verified booking
A week before we were due to check in I received an email to say that check in was now 5pm and check out was 9:30am due to Covid-19 and them needing to clean.
I replied to that email because I found that extremely unreasonable as you practically loose a day by only being able to check in at 5pm and indeed we did after getting stuck in traffic and only arriving at 19:45pm and I stressed this in my email and i donât know about anyone else but the excuse of Covid for every single thing is starting to become quite annoying. Having said that we arrived with an open mind, it was 3 friends going for a quiet weekend. Upon arrival âreceptionâ is a tiny cubicle with an envelope with your name on as everyone else who booked a lodge all with their envelopes and names on too. We entered the lodge and itâs nice, looks quite open from the outside but when your inside or in the hot tub you actually donât see anything which is nice. Very quiet again nice and exactly what we wanted. No information on local amenities and your literally in the middle of nowhere so that would have been good. We used the cooker and couldnât turn it off, no instructions, missing light and no signs on the cooker to know what was on,grill or oven so that wasnât great. The flyâs are unreal, take fly spray because itâs like they appear from nowhere (fly spray should be provided) No home touches at all, no welcome pack, coffee, tea, even a touch of milk just to carry you through a few hours of your day. Hot tub is amazing however, your bringing water into the lodge which is a slip hazard no mop to wash it up? A list of everything you need to do before you leave: 1. Strip the beds 2. Clean and put away your dishes 3. Separate your rubbish and put it in big bins provided on the way out. 4. Open all windows before you leave. What exactly are you doing with the extra time you have to clean for Covid?? I myself had to rewash dishes that had been put away dirty by previous customers so you are checking for cleanliness? There was dust all over the wardrobe shelves that again we had to clean before placing our clothes on. There is a memo to say staff will come around to clean the hot tub so keep social distancing...there was not one staff member in sight and the hot tub never got cleaned and we know that because when planning to go in for second night there was leaves and all sorts floating. Although I enjoyed the peace and quiet and it was nice for what it was the little touches and actually seeing someone to communicate with would have made things a lot better and donât use Covid as an excuse for your cleaning expectations when there is very little evidence you are living upto what you are saying you are doing.

Absolutely beautiful location, view stunning from lodge, couldn't ask for more.
The site was lovely with lots of walk ways with the dogs. The lodge was good at first glance, with all mod cons and very well equipped, which was great. Quite cramped in the bedrooms, with not really enough storage space for luggage. We were able to use the other bedroom to put our cases as there was nowhere to have them in the main bedroom. Be aware, the bunk bed in the other bedroom is really high! So for older kids it would be ok, very cramped again but all beds comfortable with good pillows and covers. Lots of towels which was really good for each bed. Lounge/ eating area, had an enormous television with lots of channels which leads you to believe that you might want to get comfy of an evening to watch a good film; but to no avail I'm afraid. The seating area which reminded me of the seating in a Doctors surgery waiting area, was the most uncomfortablest we have ever sat on! We were only able to seat on it for a short while before our backsides had gone completely numb! So consequently, we were unable to enjoy watching the TV at any length. Perhaps some reorganisation and new furniture would be a boon for this area? We found the shower really roomy and a real strong powerful shower, so was very good. It did fill up your the brim with suds every time we had a shower, and we were worried it might overflow, luckily not though! Needed a good plug clear out which obviously had not been done for a while. Kitchen was really well equipped which was great! Had a bit of trouble working out the electric hob, but managed in the end. On a serious note, be very aware of the step down into the kitchen. I had a situation where I tripped up while exiting the kitchen and flew across the lounge area! I really winded my self and was a bit bruised. Other then that, everything was fine, outside area lovely, nice area for the doggie, lovely hot tub and BBQ. Upstairs seating area with a great view but we couldn't use it as our dogs could not use the stairs safely (quite steep).

The lodge was so nice, and views were just breathtaking!
We loved everything about our little break. We got the hang of the fire pit easily! Just make sure you follow the instructions in the book and you wonât go wrong. We went to a Texaco petrol station nearby and they had bags of logs and kindling for £4.50 which was useful to know! The property was gated so our dog could have the run of outside and didnât get out. Notes for consideration if youâre staying: - I would say make sure you bring an additional tea towel and bin bags if youâre staying for more than 2 nights. We stayed for 4 nights and got 1 tea towel and 1 bin bag. Maybe if you messaged staff you might get more but we didnât bother and bought our own to make do! - The couch isnât comfortable so again, if youâre intending on spending time in the lodge Iâd suggest taking your own pillows or beanbags to make it a bit comfortable. - We stayed 4 nights and did have enough bath towels, however we used them off the spare bed too. So just make sure if youâre going as a family and for more than 2 nights, maybe consider taking additional towel each - The drive up to the lodge was quite narrow and not really for the weak if you arenât a confident driver! Iâd just say bear that in mind before booking - we were fine but I know some might not be. They arenât negative points as such, just things we would consider next time. However would go back in a heart beat. Really nice lodge and gave us the break we were looking for!

The lodge was nice although a bit outdated.
The key collection is in a small area of reception with no one there to greet you. We didn't see anyone the whole time. The lodge doors lock very strangely and the door wedges when you are trying to get in. The cooker does not work. We tried loads of different combinations and could only get the grill to work. Couldn't cook dinner at all. There are no small glasses so we had to have pint ones. There is no floor towel for the bathroom or for the hot tub so we had to put some down. The shower door doesn't close properly so floods the floor. When you open the windows flies come in everywhere so maybe a fly catcher would be nice. There is no welcome basket or anything which for a luxury lodge is a disappointment The double bed had massive springs coming out of it. There is NO noise limit at all. We had a hen party screaming and shouting until 3am and we had kids. Not kid friendly for that reason. There wasn't anyone to tell or anyone around the inspect. All the furniture is old and out dated and broken. There was also glass, a bottle with cigarette butts and cups outside... They didn't check or clean the outside at all. There was also dog poo on the grass. Overall for £400 was completely no worth it and we were very disappointed. Also the hot tub wasn't full enough or cleaned properly.

The holiday was a little spoiled by some issues with the property.
(1) The under kitchen sink waste failedâ¦. It came apart without us knowing allowing a previously full washing up bowl of water to run straight on to the floor. (2) The main front door was very difficult to lock due to wear or bad adjustment. (3) Both kitchen taps were constantly dripping despite us trying to turn off. (4) The Fridge kept âgurglingâ which may have been due to considerable frost build up. (5) A single âslatâ was missing from the kitchen blind (found under water soaked kitchen sink unit). (6) The front door frame was not fully sealed to the weather elements as you could see âdaylightâ above the door from inside the cabin. (7) Not enough information provided in the âWelcome Bookâ, regarding how to deal with emergencies or request help. Nothing was immediately obvious to myself, my wife or a neighbour from a neighbouring cabin. Due to the âplumbing failureâ on our last evening on-site, and the resulting clean up operation we had to undertake, we feel a written apology should be forthcoming from the owner as we had to telephone and cancel an evening meal we had booked in Ilfracombe.
