  By Steven E on 24-May-2018 Lovely House - perfect for big families. Stayed at Knowles House with 5 other family members including elderly parents and a dog. Wonderful house with a terrific garden. Weather was perfect and garden was superb for chilling, sunbathing or even Yoga. Met by the owners who gave us a guided tour and explained everything we needed to know from the heating to the recycling. Lovely clean bedrooms with a twin on the ground floor with its own small lounge area perfect for the elderly who have difficulty with stairs. Layout of the kitchen with the cookers and crockery, separate sink room and a third utility room with large fridge and freezers take some getting used to but no big deal. There’s a standard cooker / low level grill if your not confident with using the Aga. Big flat screen TV in the lounge and plenty of small ones in the bedrooms if your that desperate to watch TV. Showers in the bedrooms were very good and we had no issues with hot water no matter what the time of day. Lovely walk for dog walkers alongside local river one minute from the house. Journeys out to local coastal towns didn’t take long in a car. Make your own mind up about the best ones to visit - we liked Beer but won’t be rushing back to Seaton! Lovely coastal walks between Seaton and Branscombe. Took a local taxi (The very helpful Bert from Seaton Taxi’s who took all 6 of us+ Dog) to the Ship Inn at Axmouth for a couple of evening meals - Quality food, highly recommended - make sure you book.   The perfect family holiday

  If there's ever a perfect English holiday, this is it! The Wild Pear House, a classic but cosy building, looks out over well kept gardens, down to paddocks and ponds where chickens, ducks and alpacas wander all day, and beyond to the lush rolling hills of Devon, where the sun sets (if you're lucky enough to get it!) while you sit in the hot tub with your cuppa or cocktail. It's just 10 minutes drive to calm coves and sandy inlets you've never have heard of, where you can swim and paddle board, and half an hour's drive to the great surf beaches of Woolacombe etc (but get there before 10 if you want to be sure of a car parking space). And should the unthinkable happen and it rains, there's the indoor pool and games room. The house is well equipped and feels like you're staying in a friend's home, with comfy bedrooms, modern clean bathrooms and a big country style kitchen, next to which is the table tennis room where many a competition took place. One part of our family, with a 10 month baby, took the smaller Sandy Bay Cottage, which gave them space, and was just 20 steps from the main house, so close enough for baby monitor to work. Best of all are the owners who run it as if you're truly guests in their home, with Alice invariably somewhere looking after the animals, veggie patch (to which you can help yourself) and guests.   The property itself is fantastic.

  A very modern barn conversion in a lovely location. Beds were very comfortable although I think an option for a harder pillow is necessary for those with that preference. There was no way of cleaning the toilets during our stay. On arrival, the property seemed unclean, lots of dust and cobwebs in easily accessible areas. There was dirty washing in the dishwasher, presumably from previous guests. Windows weren’t very clean at all. Pool table was slanted despite this being a major selling point for the property, so a bit disappointed with that although I did not stop us from using it each night. Lighting wasn’t great above the table and sometimes it was hard to see which ball was which colour (mainly when playing snooker). Hot tub is great. Although, with it being wood fired it takes time to heat up. This is not always possible with days out etc and by the time it has heated, it would be pushing well into the night. I know this is not the case for everybody. Have to say that the maintenance team were great as there were a couple of issues during our stay which were fixed straight away. Communication with them via e-mail was quick and easy. Lots of flies at the property which is understandable as it is on a working farm. The fly spray provided did not quite cut it unfortunately. I think this needs looking at (if possible). I hope this feedback helps in the future. Thanks again for our stay :)

  A wonderful week staying at The Wild Pear House & The Broadsands Farmhouse

  This was our second visit to the Wild Pear House & The Broadsands Farmhouse with our extended family of 8 adults and 5 children. The houses are both very clean, well designed & comfortable. Alice the new owner was very welcoming and helpful. There is everything on site a family needs - the indoor swimming pool (a great favourite) hot tubs, games room, outside play areas and animals to enjoy. The children and grown ups always enjoy table tennis in the games room in the house. There is plenty of space for children to run around safely and go on walks outside. We loved eating outside in front of the house. This year the owners have collaborations with local providers and we have a great 3 course meal from Wayne, an outstanding chef and treatments from Hannah a really good masseur. The beaches nearby are great; Barricane (with a super beach hut providing food and drinks) with lots of rock pools to explore, Putsborough a lovely sandy beach at the far end of Woolacombe so is quieter and far less busy, Woody Bay is well worth a visit as it is spectacular and usually deserted. All in all a family paradise.
