What our customers say about their holidays
Patrick - Verified booking
The property is in a great location and clearly has been recently modernised to a fairly high standard.
However there are a number of small issues which if addressed would make this property five star in all respects: 1. There is no information about any of the facilities to assist people who stay there - heating, lighting, blinds etc. Simple to do but it seems to be an issue which clients have highlighted consistently over the last few months. 2. The log burner in the lounge could not be used as it leaked smoke from the seal between the chamber and the chimney. A health and safety issue but one which Im fairly sure could have been fairly quickly resolved -probably the biggest issue. 3.Related to this it meant the underfloor heating needed to be boosted to supplement the heating - this cannot be done quickly to make the room warm and comfortable also there were no instructions relating to this. 4. The showers - the owner phoned us to advise before we arrived that one of the showers was out of commission. This was not an issue for us as there was an en-suite shower in the other bedroom. However this shower did not operate properly as the overhead part of the shower would not work. Again a fairly simple repair needed. 5. Blinds for the vellux roof windows in this room should be fitted (not an issue for us) but it does make for a very bright room as soon as dawn kicks in. 6.The front door lock is not easy to operate from the point of view of getting out of the house as there is only a small turning 'handle' to hold on to. Whilst I have listed a few things here we loved our stay at the house but found it a bit frustrating when I read the reviews that many of the issues had already been identified but were still outstanding. Just take time to resolve them and take away some of the hassle for all concerned.

We enjoyed our stay at Malcolm Miller House.
The house is spacious and comfortable. The Christmas decorations were a lovely touch. It is in a very convenient location for accessing everything in Alnmouth on foot, from the beach, to the restaurants, and country walks, which is great. Unfortunately, the exceptionally windy weather across much of the week marred our stay: NOTE - this is NOT the fault of the owner, who goes the extra mile to ensure that guests have a fabulous stay. This is in relation to the ongoing building work near the house, which has been mentioned in other reviews as having no impact, but for us, this was not the case. Maybe it was because it was winter and the actual phase of the work itself?? The dedicated parking space is great, and most likely usually hassle-free. For us, it wasn't: the very strong winds meant that debris and materials from the building work were blowing about, and sometimes had to be removed from on and around the car. There were a few occasions when the work vans parked in our space and were requested to move for us. This might seem trivial, but given the limited public parking in Alnmouth, the dedicated parking space is brilliant. On other occasions the entrance to the parking space was completely blocked. The guys were very polite when asked to move their vans or let us through, but we felt a bit like an inconvenience to them. We were amazed they were even doing building work during some of the weather! We realise some of this irritation is unavoidable during building work, but given the compact area being built on, it does have an impact. Having said this, we would recommend Malcolm Miller House and would definitely return, though we would check first that the building work had been completed.

We never got to stay in bramble cottage at the last minute the owners contacted us and told us that Bramble cottage was unavailable due to maintenance issues so we were given a cottage called periwinkle.
they told us it was an upgrade over bramble cottage this again is a lie bramble had a four poster bed periwinkle has a normal double, Bramble has a really large kitchen, Periwinkles kitchen is tiny in comparison the décor in Bramble is much nicer there are big beautiful windows at bramble and Tiny little windows at periwinkle before arrival we asked if we could have Lavender cottage as that looked nicer than Bramble but were told outright flat NO as they said it was booked even though there website said it was available the lady on the phone was really rude to my wife and said that is all we have take it or leave it end of conversation, upon arrival and the main reason for being unhappy we found another couple STAYING IN BRAMBLE the cottage we had booked and were told we could not have due to maintenance issues so they had clearly LIED there was no maintenance issue with bramble cottage they had clearly given the cottage to someone else even though we had booked it through yourselves

Lovely renovated cottage in a busy little town with lots of facilities.
The house is extremely well kitted out having more than enough kitchen equipment, two great shower rooms and plenty of space both upstairs and down. It would have been helpful to be told the key safe was at the back of the property and the front door wasnât in use. Also some information about the house; which bins belonged to the property, when the bins were to be put out, which was the recycling bin and that some of the blinds were operated remotely would have been of assistance. There are two velux windows in the ceiling of the larger bedroom which do not have blinds meaning that the room was very bright at dawn. A bit of a challenge if you are a light sleeper. Ruth the owner was accessible and easy to get in touch with. Overall I would highly recommend a stay at Bramwell House, the points raised are far outweighed by the high standard of the renovation, amenities in the house and village plus the excellent situation, so close to Hadrianâs Wall etc

A beautiful, exceptionally stylish and well presented property in a great location in the centre of Corbridge.
However, it was lacking in some basic facilities which lets it down unfortunately. The only hanging space for clothes is in the second bedroom which makes it very awkward if two couples are staying. Even a few hooks in the en-suite bedroom would help. No mirror in the en-suite shower room which is tricky if you need to have a shave. True, there is one in the main bathroom but again, not ideal if juggling with other guests. The biggest issue we had was the lack of iron and ironing board. We had travelled up for a family celebration and discovered we couldn't iron anything on the morning of the event so my husband had to make an hour long round trip to his parents house to iron his clothes. Thank goodness we had that option! Such a shame as these are little things to remedy but have a big impact without them. If these were resolved we'd have no hesitation in going back as it really is a beautiful property aside from these niggles.
