  I enjoyed a wonderful, relaxing holiday at Winsmore Cottage. The owner has put so much thought into providing everything you could want from a self-catering holiday. The cottage is situated in an extremely peaceful location. As soon as I arrived and got out of the car, I noticed the silence, no traffic noise, just birdsong, even though it is situated only two miles from Bakewell. The cottage was immaculately presented, with a very comfortable bed and every firmness/softness of pillow you could desire. The sitting room was beautiful, with a very comfortable settee, lots of books, and a log burner, leading through a useful conservatory into a very pretty garden. I enjoyed the generous hamper, filled with lots of local produce, and the toiletries provided were luxurious and were not tested on animals, which is something that is important to me. I had some contact with the owner, who was very helpful and approachable, and was extremely focused on his guest's happiness. The photos on the website don't do the cottage justice, as it is much more spacious than the photos suggest. I hope to stay at Winsmore Cottage again in the future.

  Positives:- owners left me to it after the initial welcome which i prefer, not a fan of owners checking in all the time.

  they left a welcome pack with homemade marmalade which was tasty, some shortbread , different types of tea and coffee. fresh milk in the fridge. bed was comfy and nice thick duvet that kept warm but doesnt make you sweat. had all the amenities you would want, lots of cutterly,plates,salt/pepper/spices etc great views and peaceful issues: Heating is controlled by the owner so if you are cold you would need to ask them to turn it up etc, which just feels like im complaining so i never did and just wore more things. there is no curtains at the front of the conservatory and only netted ones around the sides. the front faces the owners wall with a window in it(they dont ever seem to use this room) which doesnt feel very private at night where you cant see out but they can see in. It's a shared garden which wraps around the house with gates that have lots of space for any sized dog to get through. i broke a knob on a cupboard door moving the spare chairs around to make room, sorry about this. overall it was a good experience that could of been made great with the above issues addressed. 4.4/5 stars

  Where to start, I don’t usually do reviews but felt I must on this occasion.

  The cottage was not very clean, I have photos of the cloths we used to clean the floors and oven. Unfortunately this review portal has no way of uploading the photos. The so called off road parking is not for the faint hearted, I would advise only taking a small car. You can park at the front of the property if you are lucky and the next door neighbours have not taken all the spaces. The Wi-Fi code can be found on the base of the broadband router, it’s not mentioned anywhere in the documentation. There is a key hanging on a hook in the kitchen to unlock an outside cupboard if you want to use the dryer. Again not mentioned anywhere. The road at the front of the property is more busy than the A1. I have never seen so much traffic including motorcycles speeding past the cottage. We could not stand the traffic noise even with the windows shut, so must be a nightmare if it’s hot weather, so we left the property before the leaving day. We rather we wasted money then spend anymore time there.

  Having lived in Sheffield all our lives before we moved away, we were already familiar with the Peak District .

  This lovely little cottage was a pleasure to stay in and provided us with a welcome place to rest tired legs after a day's walking . It is a Country Cottage with it's own original character .A well-equipped kitchen with modern appliances ,/ a comfortable living-room , / the bathroom has a bath for a good soak, (or shower if preferred) /bedrooms are clean ,comfortable and welcoming , parking round the back maybe a little tight but do-able with care ,-people-carriers and 4x4s were not around when these houses were built ! . The neighbours were friendly and pleasant .The road to the front of the cottage is busy, but expected , Rowsley is in the middle of farming country so tractors and farm vehicles use the road during the day , and Chatsworth is just up the road . We had a very enjoyable stay at Lees Moor Cottage and would be happy to stay here again .

  Chapel Retreat was a tastefully decorated and spacious house, which was perfect for our extended family break. There was plenty of space downstairs, including a little snug area for the kids. There was a large dining table that sat everyone, and a comfy sofa area. Upstairs the bedrooms were decent, 2 a little on the small side, but the triple decker bunk was hilarious and such fun for the kids, and the day bed and under bed worked really well and was easy to get out and stash away. The other 2 were good size, and both the bathroom and en-suite were both lovely. The location near the Pavillion Gardens in Buxton was fantastic, it was moments away from a Sainsbury’s and easy to find and easy to get parking on the street.
