What our customers say about their holidays

We had a great time at The Hollies.
It was well equipped and the kids loved table tennis. The benches at the dining table were a little precarious for the kids (aged 9, 10 and 12) when they tried to pull them closer to the table. One in particular would rock forwards if not careful. A couple of normal chairs would be helpful for ease of use for those of us who are quite arthritic. The round handles on the doors were really tricky to grip and turn for my arthritis - not a complaint, just if we stay there again, I will take some sort of arthritis aid for opening such doors. I would love to see some extra drawer storage in the main bedroom as there were only 3 small drawers and then just hanging space in the wardrobes. Also, the beds are quite high, which is fine, except for the shorties amongst us, itâs a bit of an issue to sit and get socks on, so a chair in each bedroom would be really helpful. The location was great and peaceful. Lovely beaches nearby. Really enjoyed our stay and would consider returning in the future.

Well equipped kitchen but some furniture at the end of its life.
The wooden outside furniture is in poor condition and should have been renovated before the season start. The biggest complaint is poor central heating and hot water temperature. The upstairs was 16 degrees in the morning with no means to control the central heating â I suspect this was done remotely by owner. This despite several guest noting this in the guest book. The hot water temperature was also too low â just about hot enough for a shower but not for a bath and to clean greasy dishes etc. I donât expect to be cold when on holiday, itâs unacceptable to not provide central heating or means to control it. The listing for the cottage states it has heated towel rails, again these had been turned off with no means of turning them on. Damp towels and a cold bathroom â not what you want from a holiday let.

We book with Sykes regularly and have always been satisfied.
However, weâre finding the Friday changeover which is increasingly common with a lot of properties, is causing major travel problems for us. Friday, being the last day of the working week, has vast amounts of commercial vehicles using the roads. Consequently the journeys are fraught problems and the roads jammed up up with HGVs. This was particularly noticeable on the A14 with heavy goods vehicles travelling down to Felixstowe. A Saturday changeover would reduce this problem and make a much more pleasant journey for holidaymakers. I donât know how families cope with a Friday changeover when their children are in school until late afternoon. It leaves us wondering whether the Friday changeover is for the benefit of the property owner rather than the guests,

As I wrote in the visitors book, this was a nice, adequate holiday home: roomy, light filled and airy.
We enjoyed the garden and spent sunny early evenings around the patio table. We were able to cook light meals on a few nights using the well designed kitchen. However, there were winter weight duvets on all three beds, which makes little sense in the height of summer. The benches around the dining table are unsuitable for anyone beyond their teenage years. We were staying with my 91-year-old mother and were forced to bring folding chairs from home. The bedrooms are spartan in terms of facilities: a chair in each would be helpful. (We all need something to sit on when putting on shoes or to help with changing clothes.) Also, the fridge had a huge build up of ice and needed defrosting. Did this not occur to your house keeper?

This was a very comfortable and spacious house, perfect for our multi generational get together. The bedrooms were all of a very good size, with comfortable beds and lovely bedding. Bathrooms were good, as were towels. The dining room is a beautiful space with a huge table perfect for 8 adults and 3 children. Lovely ambiance for an evening meal. The kitchen was very well equipped with loads of cutlery, plates, glasses and cookware. Comfortable seating outside. Not much space for children to run around but there is a very good park with climbing frame etc just a five minute walk away. All in all a very good base from which to enjoy the Suffolk coastline. We would definitely return.
