What our customers say about their holidays

A very warm welcome greeted us on arrival.
Tea & coffee making facilities were provided, as were half a dozen eggs laid by the hens which can be regularly seen in the woods around the back of the cottage. The hosts could not have been more helpful and the cottage is comfortable, quiet and cozy. All facilities were first-rate and we had the added bonus of the Tour of Britain (cycle race) passing right outside our front-door during our stay. The wi-fi is a little patchy at times, but perfectly serviceable if you're not expecting to stream 4k video etc - you are out in the middle of nowhere after all ! The local pub (Fetherstone Arms) in Kirkoswald serves excellent food and ale - we didn't get to try the Crown Inn across the road. There is a local shop in Kirkoswald for the basics and a well-stocked Co-op in nearby Lazonby which is a 30 min walk from Kirkoswald (with a few sizable but manageable hills to navigate). The woods situated in the grounds of the house are not accessible to guests but there are lots of lovely countryside walks that we enjoyed with our dog. The Lakes District and North Pennines are a short drive away, but even if you simply walk up to the top of the hill - the views are nothing short of sensational. Overall we would highly recommend a stay at the Coach House whether you want to explore the local scenery or just chill out and get some peace and quiet. We will certainly consider returning again next year. Finally - thanks to our hosts for such a pleasant stay.

Lovely property.
Very well maintained, it looked very new, absolute nothing was worn or grubby. So impressed with all of the amenities. The bottle of wine and cake that were left for us were particularly appreciated. The thing that put this so high in my estimation was the the cleanliness and attention to detail. Whoever is in charge of housekeeping/cleaning are an absolute credit to themselves! Three bedrooms and three bathrooms made life so much easier than trying to share. One thing that might be a small problem to anyone with a large dog is that there isnât a garden as such, thereâs a small patio area at the front of the property. Our dog is very small so it was fine for us. There are lots of walks in the immediate vicinity though. The Stag Inn is a couple of miles away and serves very good food, we ate there every evening. Reasonably priced and a huge selection of gins and whiskeys. lovely staff. We didnât find anywhere else close by that served food. There is a well stocked Co-op in Prospect but the nearest larger supermarket seemed to be Lidl in Wigton. The property is about 75 minutes north of Lake Windermere.Itâs in a convenient place for Carlisle or areas further North. If I ever returned to this area I would definitely stay again.

Booked this holiday 30th August until 6th Sept 2019.
.. Unfortunately we had to come home on the 3rd couldn't cope with accommodation any longer... The place was spotless and well equipped but not for the elderly or disabled like the property information led us to believe ⦠Bedroom beautiful furnished with a King size bed ⦠Bathroom lovely big walk in shower but no grab rail or Bath mat to step out onto and it was a wooden floor so very slippy ⦠The lounge had a sofa and two chairs which were fine if you were young but we could not get up out of them they were so low and the sofa so soft ⦠My husband had cancer surgery and follow up treatment so we thought this would be ideal for him ⦠we resorted to sitting on hard kitchen type chairs to watch the tele not comfortable at all... Then to top it all we arrived Friday the 30th August and on Saturday morning 31st August the road had closed for 7 weeks ⦠no diversion signs we had to keep going well out of our way to get anywhere we were not informed about this ⦠I am not knocking The Old Stables it was spotless and well equipped like I previously said but needs some attention to make it more ideal for the elderly and disabled we paid out £436 pound for 3 days not happy we feel we were mis informed

We were not actually on holiday.
We live in a nearby village and used Daffodil Cottage as somewhere to live while we had a new kitchen fitted. I would not recommend the cottage for a holiday as it has no garden or view. However the pub and fish and chip shop (which also does Chinese takeaways) are useful. The kitchen is adequately equipped but only just (more spoons, especially serving spoons would be helpful). The bedroom is small and so has a small 4ft6in bed but there is plenty of storage space in it. More information about parking would have been helpful: it took us a couple of days to realise that the 'No Parking' sign in front of the cottage did not apply to us. However parking in the square (where there are useful shops) is free but there are not always spaces available. There are plenty of attractions in the area which is why we live here. Grange-over-Sands is a reasonable shopping place but I often wonder why tourists like it as the 'Sands' are not 'bucket and spade' beaches but dangerous areas with mud and quick-sands.
