What our customers say about their holidays
Sally - Verified booking
We arrived just before 3pm, at the same time as the cleaner so not the best start to our holiday.
No communication re this. Cleaner was very quick but not very thorough. She also arrived before 10am on the day of departure which wasnât very helpful either. The property isnât in the nicest park of Kingsbridge. The car parking space wasnât allocated and therefore wasnât always available leaving us having to try and park on a not particularly nice street at times. Various items of crockery, cutlery, oven mits etc were soiled/sticky, with remnants of food etc on them. The shower tray didnât drain on arrival so we were left from Friday to Monday without being able to use the only shower in the property. The TV screen was marked/scratched but subsequently cleaned by maintenance so presumably just dirty. Sykes were very helpful and reassuring re all of the above. The person that called from Coast and Country was rather defensive and dismissive. No additional toilet rolls, bin bags, cleaning products were left in the property. There are also no tea towels or hand towels for the kitchen. With the unfortunate bits out of the way the property is very nicely decorated with very comfortable beds and sofa. Thereâs plenty of crockery, cutlery etc to use during your stay. Thereâs also plenty of cupboard, fridge/freezer space. No wardrobes but good sized hanging rails and lots of drawers. Itâs so light inside and thereâs a lovely courtyard garden with a nice view from one corner. Bed linen was nice and plenty of bathroom towels were left. Kingsbridge and the South Hams are lovely. Kingsbridge has some good delis, a cinema, ice cream shops and various independent shops to mooch around. Thereâs lots of great beaches; South Milton, Bigbury, Mothercombe. Lots of lovely places to eat nearby. The Oyster Shack is a must, youâll need to book in advance though. The ferry to Salcombe is lovely and the staff had great local knowledge for lovely things to do during our stay. We had lovely weather to really enjoy the area. Weâve booked several cottages through Sykes before and all has been well, I donât think weâve booked directly with Coast and Country before. Would we stay again, Iâm not sure, Iâd like to think this was a one off bad experience itâs a little disappointing that no one has checked in with us to check everything was resolved. Weâd definitely stay in Kingsbridge again as itâs a really nice part of the country.

We had a wonderful holiday.
The apartment was lovely, as usual, and we were very lucky to have fantastic weather which meant we could make the most of the beach and the swimming pool. The new carpets in the bedrooms are very nice and it is convenient to have towels provided now. We did have some issues (some of which others have mentioned too): The washing machine had A LOT of black mould in it. The powder drawer and slot it fits into were covered in mould, as was the seal. It took me a very long time to clean it up before the machine could be used. I realise this is partly due to the flat being unoccupied at times but, perhaps the owners could leave a note to remind people to leave the drawer and door open? The fitted sheet for the double bed was too small and kept coming off. The trays in the oven were all very dirty with bits of food on them -we had to clean them all. The oven gloves were so dirty that I had to soak them before washing them. I realise that some of the issues are due to people not cleaning up after themselves, and that cleaners have limited time, but my general impression is that cleaning is not as good now that Sykes has taken over the company. We have been going to No 7 since 2011 and the standard of cleaning does seem to have deteriorated. We love the apartment, with a few minor tweaks it would be perfect!

We absolutely loved The Hideaway!
It was a fabulous place to stay in a fantastic location. We love this corner of South Devon & have definitely found a new go-to - we will absolutely stay here again! The house was spotless when we arrived, super clean & the house overall was extremely comfortable. The kitchen was brilliant - really well equipped with everything you might need, & we loved the shared garden at the back. I only gave 4/5 for comfort, only because the lounge doesn't quite have enough seating for a family of 4 to relax & sit comfortably. We were only really home in the evenings anyway, so it wasn't a huge issue, but an additional comfy chair in the lounge would be useful. This absolutely wouldn't stop us staying in future, however. Thank you for having us & what a lovely property to be able to call home for a week!

We enjoyed our stay at the Hideaway a perfect location for a relaxing time.
The cottage was very clean lovely bed linen, and a comfortable bed, excellent bathrooms. The kitchen was well equipped, we would have liked a coffee machine and more mugs, some china mugs perhapsâ¦. We were slightly disappointed with the sitting room not enough comfy seating certainly not for four people thankfully there were just us two. . The biggest disappointment was the outdoor facilities the terrace is shabby and the furniture tired and not for lounging. We were greeted with pot plants dead as dodo which were moved as no amount of watering would have helped. The owner should look at the terrace of flat number 1 to see what should be done.. We loved the pub, the hotel restaurant next door but one, and the superb beaches nearby. Thurlestone a delightful village we hope to return.

I have already recommended this holiday to my friends.
We took three generations and everybody thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The apartment was really comfortable. My mother spend many happy hours sitting on the sofa watching people and dogs playing on the beach. My son loved the heated swimming pool and the rock pools and my teenage daughter took lots of relaxing walks along the beach and the beach paths. (Which was just what she needed after taking her GCSEs.) I really enjoyed kayaking. We were able to hire a kayak or paddle board on the beach. We will definitely be going to Thurlestone Rock again and will probably see if we can take a couple of little dogs with us. It really was a dog friendly beach and in the week that we were there all of the dogs were off lead and we didnât see one fallout.
