What our customers say about their holidays

  • Tulsa - Verified booking

This was our second time staying in this apartment and we hoped it would be better than the first as the reviews were glowing and so we figured that our first stay was just an anomaly.

Unfortunately, our second stay was equally as problematic. The biggest issue was cleanliness, the problem being the place had not been cleaned besides some loo cleaner put down the toilet. I bought my own bedding in case the bed hadn't been changed (like the first time) and I'm so glad I did because the bed hadn't been changed, or if it had then the laundry services need reviewing. The sheets, didn't smell clean, feel clean or look clean, there were hairs (short and curlys) marks and stains. So after an 8 hour journey we changed the sheets, problem solved but not the nicest thing to deal with. Changing the bed takes a few minutes so I would expect it to be done before we arrived. The floor had no been hoovered or cleaned, there were clumps of dirt and hair on the rugs and crumbs and hair over the floor. My socks were filthy by the end of the week from walking on the floor. Anyway, we hoovered and cleaned the best we could but the hoover was very lackluster. The living room bin had been changed but there was an empty vape liquid container, no big deal but as we entered the apartment there was a smell of leftover food mixed with something and I'm guessing someone had been vaping in there prior to our arrival. A quick note on the smells, and this is not the property owners fault but just to bear in mind if booking this place - we smelt cigarette smoke and marijuana pretty much the whole time we were there and further odd smells, especially in the bedroom and the bathroom leading off from the bedroom which could have been from the alley outside. The bathrooms has not been cleaned besides some loo cleaner poured down them as they were bright blue. there were hairs in the sink, hairs on the floor and in the bath, the walls were dirty as were the skirting boards etc. It all just needed a deep clean. The kettle lid is broken which isn't the end of the world but on top of the cleanliness issues, it's all just rather shabby. The parking permit fee needs to be optional as we don't drive and it would be nice to save a bit of money by not having the permit. That's just a bit of feedback in general. The location of this apartment is brilliant, however. A bus stop right outside and waking distance to the lake and the station. This is why we stayed again. Also being able to have a bath after climbing mountains is lovely. All in all if the cleanliness issues are sorted and the place is actually properly cleaned with some touch ups to the facilities then this apartment would be amazing. It's just such a shame both our stays were not up to the standard that we assumed this place had. We'd love to stay again due to the location but we can't take another chance on the cleanliness.

    Yes, 'Met Expectations' but.

.. For the price (economic, ie about £100 p/n) the standard was mostly good, so no complaints there, but the 'write up' was rather 'over-the-top' - described as 'luxurious' - well not quite, eg I'd like a more comfortable bed for 'luxurious' and the 'platter of delicious local produce' consisted of a Higates flapjack made in Wasall and two Lichfields products - digestives and 'highland shorties' - from Northants. Not exactly 'local'! Didn't eat any of it - but the 'delicious may be a bit over the top too. Better to not mention them. In similar vein, the views were described as 'outstanding' - well, they were pleasant enough - a couple of fields with sheep, not exactly 'outstanding' especially in an area where there are indeed so many truly outstanding views. Strange that, although bed linen and towels were included, there was no tea towel. It was explained that this was because so many tea towels were 'stolen' by previous guests. My advice - just add £5 to the o/n price and buy in a load of Lakes tea towels and invite guests to take it away with them, if they wish, as a souvenir - compliments of the owners. One final thing - about being 'welcoming' - I did not read on the site I booked through (snaptrip.com) about not checking in before 4pm although I may have overlooked it but we did follow the advice to phone and let the owners know our ETA. Bit surprised that my wife was told to 'wait' while lady's husband was consulted before agreeing to our arrival at 3pm. When we arrived - after a 5 hour drive - at 10 minutes to 3pm, the entry gate was locked. It could have/should have been open for us - but perhaps the owners wanted to give us a message? Not the way to 'welcome' guests! By-the-by, with winter approachng and clocks going back an hour at the end of this month, if guests are not 'welcome' before 4pm, they will be arriving more or less in the dark. Surely, even with Covid ceansing, there is time from 10 am (departure time) to 3pm - 5 hours - to thoroughly clean and sanitise correctly.

This is a great little modern apartment right in the centre of Bowness but yet still in a quiet cul de sac.

It has a smart tv in both the lounge & bedroom with a Netflix account included, and every mod con including air con fans (which were greatly appreciated in the wonderful weather we had all week). For a curly haired person like myself the hairdryer with diffuser is also a great addition. You are provided with little packs with tea, coffee, sugar, milk & biscuits and there is also hand wash, cloths & washing up liquid. No shampoo etc though so you need to bring your own. There is a Co-op 2 mins walk away for anything you need. Everything is literally on your door step. Parking is slightly up the hill so you need to offload outside the flat then move the car, which is no problem. Negatives: a better variety of glasses would be good eg wine, pint glasses. The shower is a law unto itself! It seems to turn to scalding at a seconds notice. Setting it to the correct temperature was a bit of a challenge. The socket where the washing machine & microwave is situated does not appear to work. Luckily we had an extension cable with us. There are no instructions for anything in the apartment & if you’re not a tech genius like my husband you might struggle. There was also nothing to tell us what to do with our rubbish. The mattress on the bed is unfortunately pretty hard. We like a reasonably hard mattress but we actually took the duvet cover off and used the duvet as a mattress cover to make it more comfortable. Overall would highly recommend this apartment and we will certainly return!

Great position with Bowness, easy access to Lakes, shops, restaurants etc.

If you have mobility issues then this apartment is not for you. Steps to front door and then more stairs to property. Walking back from town is also up a steep hill. Inside the apartment is an adequate comfortable sized lounge with dining table. Kitchen is absolutely tiny and def only made for 1. Even opening oven door is an issue whilst standing in the kitchen. Lack of any sizeable worktop to prepare or serve food. No freezer space not even small top compartment. Big issue when staying for 7 nights. Fridge temperature did not get as cold as it should be, even when we turned it up. Complete apartment could do with a deep clean, I had to clean the draining board tray before use and could do with much bigger bin. No recycling facilities. Oven racks were dirty and had only fresh foil put in them. The bedroom again adequate size, the mattress was below the bed frame which made it painful when turning over, sitting on bed or getting out. New mattress required. Enough drawer space except very hard to open and some would not open at all. The wall behind the cupboard and the rest of the wall under the window even thought had been painted black were damp and covered in mould. The wall paper was peeling off due to the damp. Again steps in bathroom were a little small so had to walk up sideways. Ensuite was adequate, sink very small but good powerful shower. Plenty of hot water and instant heating when required. Parking permit was very welcome and a huge bonus. Wifi was good,

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at this beautifully decorated holiday cottage.

The interior was both trendy and cosy, making it the perfect retreat. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the bathroom was lovely – just what we needed to unwind after exploring the stunning surroundings. The location was ideal, easy to access yet nestled in a peaceful and picturesque area. A lovely touch was the thoughtful welcome gift of rosé prosecco and scones, which made us feel so special upon arrival. One small consideration: the cottage might not be the best fit for very tall guests. My boyfriend is 6’5” and bumped his head a few times on some of the lower beams and doorways. That said, we still thoroughly enjoyed our stay and found the charm of the cottage well worth it! The only other minor hiccup was the Wi-Fi, we couldn't get it to work on any of our devices or the TV, but we easily resolved it by using a hotspot and I am sure this is a fixable issue we just didn't bother raising it. This didn’t detract from our stay, though, as everything else was simply perfect. Annie, the host, was so friendly and accommodating, making us feel right at home. We’d definitely love to stay again and would highly recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a cosy, stylish, and relaxing escape – just mind your head if you’re tall!
