What our customers say about their holidays
Jonathan - Verified booking
This was booked as a last minute replacement when our booking (through different company, not Sykes) for another property in Southport was cancelled just over a week before we arrived.
We had looked at this property when planning our trip but originally rejected it due to the spiral staircase which we though might cause us problems, in the event we managed it OK, but it was a bit difficult for my partner to climb and descend. When we arrived we were met by the owner who showed us around and came out with some rather unexpected requests. We were asked to save electricity by (if possible) only using the dishwasher, washing machine and cooker (!) between 09:00 and 15:00 when the solar panels would be providing power. The freezer was turned off and we had to ask for it to be turned on. There were also notices left all over the property telling us to do (or not do) this and that, not very welcoming. We were asked not to lift the blinds of the rooms as they caught on the window catches (due to being fitted badly), but the whole place felt dusty and airless so we needed to lift them just to get some air into it, it would also have been nice to be able to look outside during daylight hours! We were told (and there was a notice!) not to try and adjust the heating as it was controlled from the owners property. I felt it humiliating to return to the property after an evening visiting friends in town to have to call him and ask if we could possibly have some heating as it was cold inside. The parking was exceedingly tight to enter and exit, fortunately my (average sized Honda) is equipped with parking sensors and a rear camera, otherwise we would probably have had to leave it on the street outside and carry our luggage a considerable distance to the property, which is located at the bottom of the owners garden. The main bedroom (downstairs) has a large window, but the glass is frosted so you couldn't actually see into the garden from it! There were also no opening windows to it, just some tiny vents. The upstairs bedroom was small and cramped. The place certainly has character, but it was a bit weird to be cooking and eating in what had been carefully preserved as the original stables. Fortunately, most days we were eating out with our friends, either on trips out during the day, or in the evening at their house. Overall, not a great second week to our holiday, particularly compared to the lovely house in North Wales that we had stayed in for the first week.

What an amazing place to stay!
There are four cottages at Lower Farm Cottages to choose from of varying sizes. We booked one of the smaller one bedroom cottages called âThe Dairyâ it was very spacious had a luxury super king size bed but it could be split into a twin and even had a Hot Tub as well! The cottage was lovely and clean and everything you could need was supplied such as beds made up on arrival, towels & tea-towels provided. Basket of essentials such as teabags, coffee, hot chocolate, sugar, milk, biscuits and even a bottle of Prosecco to enjoyâ¦â¦ Itâs set in peaceful countryside and you can hear the birds chirping around you. The Cottages are owned by Matt and his family and they live just next door. Matt made us feel very welcome and he was very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The cottage is within a few minutes drive of lots of attractions such as Ice Cream Farm, Blue Planet Aquarium, New Brighton Beach, BeWildered and Chester its self or further afield to Liverpool or into Wales plus many more places. Thereâs also lots to do at the cottage like visiting the animals, watching the wildlife cams on the cottage tv of the birds on the feeders, the resident barn owls and more. There is also a sculpture trail/display in the orchard that guests can exclusively visit and enjoy, it tells a story of life at Lower Farm Cottages and the family the familyâs dog Fudge. The trail is based on a book that has been written by the familyâs friends and has now been published to raise donations for Alder Hey Hospital. We will be returning very soon and this will now be our place to get away and de-stress. Well Done Matt & Rachel all involved the cottages and the surroundings are lovely and a credit to you all and itâs a big 10/10 from us

If you are looking for total peace and relaxation Cherry Croft is ideal.
The property is tastefully finished to a high standard, and includes modern touches like electric sockets with USB ports, and smart TVs. Although there are neighbouring properties nearby you do not feel at all overlooked. We spent two weeks doing nothing but walking, sitting in the garden and, on rainy days, watching the tide going in and out across the Solway Firth. The RSPB Campfield Marsh is a couple of minutes walk away and well worth a visit. Although there are no local shops and the fridge/freezer is a little on the small size (especially if you have to feed two sons in their 20s!) ASDA will deliver groceries, so it wasn't too much of a problem. The owners are lovely - on hand if you need them, but not intrusive. There are a couple of little things we noticed - there are no tall glasses for lemonade / beer, and there were very few cleaning products - especially toilet cleaner or bleach. Having stayed for two weeks, I would have liked to do a thorough clean before leaving. Also, we were lucky enough to have some really sunny days, but in the evening the heat makes sitting in the armchair quite uncomfortable, so maybe a blind or curtain on the side window would be a good idea. Overall though, we had a fabulous stay and would highly recommend this property.

Linden Barn was the perfect family holiday retreat. The Barn was bright, fresh and comfortable. All the details has been thought of - a high quality welcome hamper, plenty of wood and paper for the log burner, comfortable beds and lots of space for the children including the lovely reading area on the landing. The large utility room was very handy for storing all the walking shoes and coats. The outside space was very inviting, if small, and there were some fresh herbs growing, which we used in cooking. In all, it was a cosy and welcome place to return to after a day's walking. The owners were on hand and very friendly and helpful the couple of times we met them, but left us to enjoy our privacy. The Barn has a fantastic situation, minutes off the M6 and accessible to the nearby Lake District as well as the Northern Yorkshire Dales. We enjoyed varied walks in both areas as well as some walks directly from the Barn itself. The village is delightful to walk around with many little streams, pretty cottages and a beautiful Church. We would highly recommend Linden Barn for a stay in this beautiful area.

We really enjoyed our stay in Southport at the Coach House!
The pool table, and access to Disney, Netflix & a wii games console kept our kids entertained throughout our stay. As a family we didnt have any issues with the spiral staircase to get upstairs, with the kids staying in the upper level bedroom while we stayed in the bedroom on the groond floor. The kitchen was well equipped, including a slow cooker which we used quite a few times while we were out and about. Parking was secure behind electric gates, albeit with a fairly tight reverse in. The location was handy for buses and a nearby Lidl. Its a pleasant 25 minute walk to Southport Centre, which we also did a few times when eating out. The gift of a bottle of wine and some easter eggs on arrival was also a nice treat. Overall its a really fantastic space, and if we ever visit Southport again we will be staying here!
