What our customers say about their holidays
Frederick - Verified booking
Very inaccurate/fraudulent listing.
1. There is no Sky Q package, just freeview via Sky Q Box. 2. The kitchen is not well equipped. Three saucepans, a couple of frying pans and a selection of dirty baking trays and roasting tins - that's it. Even the cutlery was dirty and mismatched. There was no teapot, teacups, ovenproof dishes etc., not even a table spoon to serve up veg. We had to buy some oven proof dishes. 3. The king size bed only has a double mattress on it, and this exposes the metal frame. It's metal footboard is broken, and has a sharp edge. A king size topper has been added but this makes it impossible for the fitted sheets to stay put. Be prepared to refit the sheets during the night. 4. The mattresses in the second bedroom have not toppers and can best be described as instruments of torture - glad we didn't have to use them. 5. The tea and coffee containers need emptying. They look like they have been there for years. The coffee was one solid lump. I wasn't expecting a welcome pack, but a pint of milk rather than the individual out of date UHT pots that look like they have been stolen from some cafe would have been welcome. 6. The 'plush' sofas were dirty and worn out. They were very low and you sank even lower when you sat on them, very difficult to get out of. They offered no support and the low backs made watching the very high level TV painful after about 30 minutes. 7. There is no shaver socket in the bathroom and no adaptor provided in the bedroom. We had to buy an adaptor. 8. The tumble dryer has been taken out and no replaced, even although it is still shown in the pictures. Change the picture or replace the tumble dryer. 9. The front and back door locks need maintenance or replacing. It felt like they were going to break every time they were locked or unlocked. 10. The garden furniture needs a good clean. The table and chairs were green and could not be used. 11. Even the directions to the property are pure giberish. Instead of giving directions from the major approaches, they appear to give directions from a car park in Thetford, but with some of the stages mixed. Summary. I could go on and on. Basically the cottage and decor was lovely, but things have not been maintained, repaired or replaced when needed. Numerous sticky notes left by light switches etc. asking 'people' rather than guests to turn them off says it all. It was not welcoming. The were no recommendations of where to eat etc. and the local pubs listed were closed most days and when open were just boozers offering no food. The area was run and felt like a sink estate with graffiti on walls, grass growing through abandoned toys in unkempt gardens, and bins left outside with rubbish stacked next to them all the time.

The cottage was very clean and the owners have thought of everything that might be required.
Sadly there were a few negatives. the kitchen exceptionally cold as was the stairs and landing resulting in cold air coming into the main area when either of the doors were opened. On the first night the duvet on the main bed was not sufficient to keep us warm so we added the duvet on the bunk bed which made two duvets to keep us warm. As mentioned before fridge freezer still leaks and you need to wipe the floor. Sky tv is disappointing as most things are not in the package. Also a suggestion long curtains tend to keep the heat out as they cover the radiators. Sadly we left on Wednesday morning due to cold weather .We are sorry to be negative as it is a very nice cottage and the owners have made every effort and I am sure that when the weather is warmer it would be a perfect stay.

Great little cottage ideally situated to explore North Norfolk or go and watch the jets at Lakenheath.
One big problem we arrived on a bitterly cold day there was no heating on felt as though it had not been used for a while. We put the heating on and within an hour the external walls where heavily condensed and it was visibly wet couldnât use the wardrobe in the double room because Its an external wall. It was 2 days before the condensation cleared. Good points when the log burner was on it was brilliant beds not to bad a little lumpy, sofas okay over all great but not in winter, the cutlery was very flimsy and when washing them the some of the knife places pulled out of the handles

We can’t say enough about how much we enjoyed our stay here. The location is amazing, so peaceful and quiet and you really feel like you are getting away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. The hut was very well appointed with everything we needed, and the outside bath and kitchen were nice touches that enabled us to stay outside as much as possible. We enjoyed cooking the contents of the BBQ Retreat Box that was waiting for us when we arrived on the fire pit. We will definitely return.

We have had a fabulous 2nd stay at Chalk Cottage.
The cottage is very comfortable & well equipped - only thing missing was a hairdryer. The garden is completely enclosed, which was great for our small dog. Rumbles fish bar, in the village was very good. Brandon Tandori also very good. Valentinos, in Brandon, was our favourite. Great walks in Thetford forest. RSPB Lakenheath is well worth a visit. We were very lucky to see the amazing display of the Northern Lights on our last night. We would definitely book the cottage again.
