What our customers say about their holidays

Review of Tidal Reach Holiday Stay Our stay at Tidal Reach was unfortunately marred by several issues that significantly impacted our holiday experience.
Arrival and Parking: Upon arrival, we were greeted by scaffolding at the front of the property. This not only limited the parking space but also made it impossible for me to exit my car using the driverâs door due to the shared driveway with another holiday flat. As a result, I had to park off-road, which was quite inconvenient. It would have been greatly appreciated if we had been notified about the scaffolding in advance. Accommodation Issues: The bedroom floor was quite slippery, making it uncomfortable to walk barefoot or even with socks on. Additionally, the bed was extremely firm, causing both my wife and me to suffer from backaches throughout our stay. This was a major downside as it affected our overall comfort and rest. Dining and Kitchen Facilities: Although the flat was advertised as suitable for four people, there were only three dining chairs available. Thankfully, there were only two of us, but this would have been problematic for a larger group. The kitchen, while well-stocked (over-stocked) with utensils (including eight saucepans, three slicers, two whisks, and three strainers), lacked essential storage space for fresh food and tins. As a self-catering flat, it was surprising to find no storage cupboards or even a breadbin, which made meal preparation and storage quite challenging. Information and Amenities: There was a noticeable lack of information regarding local services such as emergency doctors and dentists, etc. which would have been helpful. Additionally, there were no instructions on how to use the oven. As we are accustomed to a gas cooker at home, we struggled to figure out how to operate the electric oven provided. Guest Interaction: Normally, guests are greeted either upon arrival or within a couple of days to ensure everything is satisfactory. This was not the case during our stay. The only time we met the owner was on the Friday evening of our stay, when he knocked on the door to inform us that the cleaner would be coming in the next day. He did not introduce himself or inquire about our holiday experience. This lack of friendliness and engagement was disappointing. I would suggest the owner take some lessons from the Hotel Inspector on how to be more welcoming and attentive to guests. In summary, while Tidal Reach has potential, several aspects need improvement to enhance the overall guest experience. Better communication, more comfortable bedding, adequate dining seating, proper kitchen storage, and comprehensive information about local services and amenities would make a significant difference.

Excellent
Quite often, pictures are a limited way of giving you an idea of what you are actually going to experience when you arrive at your destination. The property was more than suitable for our needs and did give us plenty of space and allowed two families to co inhabit without the sense that there was no personal space. The accommodation was well maintained and had everything needed to give you a sense it was an extension of home regarding the facilities it had, including dishwasher tablets! Short of nothing really. It was suitable for the one year old baby who had enough room to move around. On two levels, it allowed us to spread out easily and sleeping arrangements were good, especially with a pull out king size that fitted our 6'.4'' son with ease. It was in the town, which made everything easy to reach and allowed easy local shopping and light strolls to the river front. Only things to consider with this area is the noise level of the seagulls that can effect sleep and we resorted to earplugs when required, especially if the windows were open. I would say that if there was a choice of location and seagulls, the location would win! Dartmouth itself is a lovely, unspoilt area with plenty of interesting sites and excursions like boat trips and steam train to Paignton. You do need the good weather and maybe a good itinerary, although there are endless walks if that's the plan! Overall, an excellent choice for us and would stay here again should we head to this part of the country.

Problems at Walterâs Rest:- 1) Serious smell of cooking oil in the apartment on arrival.
Restaurant below apartment is venting cooking smells upwards through a tube. The smells enter the Childrenâs Bedroom through a sash window. The window can be moved to close it, but sash lock not working, so window falls down, so it is open all the time. 2) Sash window in living room can be pushed closed, but sash lock broken. This window is large, & drops down by approx 12 inches, & it cannot be closed. Cold can enter the room, gusts of wind, noise from below & seagull noise. 3) Sash window in bedroom can be pushed closed, but lock faulty. Window falls down. 4) Expelair extractor fan not working in bathroom. 5) Shower head faulty. It should be possible to adjust it to spray on the person having the shower. It sprays on the wall instead. 6) Toilet seat is continually moving when it is in use. The seat should be glued to the toilet pan, using bathroom sealant. 7) Serious difficulty in making the front door key open the door. The lock is very dry, & only needs oiling or addition of WD40 to fix it. This is a repeat complaint. 8) When unloading the car, or leaving the property at the end of stay, it is not possible to park legally in Raleigh Street. The description should say the car needs to be parked in a nearby road.

A lovely apartment ideally located - with a parking permit for a car park a few minutes . Lots of positives - very well equipped , good quality furnishings, spotlessly clean. Has dishwasher , washing machine / dryer. Great range cooker - good size fridge. So very easy to self cater ( excellent deli across the road and M and S food hall a few minutes walk away ). Comfy beds. Great size main bathroom and a second en-suite. Really appreciated hypoallergenic bedding was sourced and provided for us. The “ negatives “ ( well the “ what might you want to know “). The great location does come with some noise - the seagulls providing most of it !!! The top bedroom does get warm ( there is a fan provided ) There are quite a few stairs - around 50 from front door to top bedroom The smallish Tv in living area was a bit “ spotty “ and we had to reset a few times. The lounge area is a strange set up sofa wise if there are more than two of you. That can be seen from photos on the webpage. No welcome pack provided ( fine by us but some might expect tea coffee milk to be there on arrival) Would happily recommend and return.

Excellent
The apartment was absolutely excellent. Over two floors, the apartment is so light and airy with everything you need the flat suited us perfectly. The main bedroom on the top floor was beautiful - a very comfortable bed and the black out blinds on the velux windows worked really well. Excellent power shower with instant hot water. I'd recommend earplugs just for the seagulls if you like to sleep with the windows open (we had 3 seagull chicks and their parents on the roof which was a little noisy). Otherwise such a peaceful apartment right in the middle of the town. Couldn't have been better placed. We bought fresh bread and quiches from across the road in Dart to Mouth - also highly recommend their cream teas! Downstairs the kitchen and living areas were great and the books and games were enjoyed too. Really efficient to get the keys via keypad system on the exterior and parking permit was all easily laid out inside too. Enough space to drop off bags and then park at the nearby car park. Lovely touch to receive the bottle of wine and jam from Bluerivercottages too. An excellent flat and we are looking forward to returning.
