  The best self catering accommodation we have ever stayed in.

  So much attention to detail. The weather was awful but the hosts had thought of everything to counteract this including board games and a full remote control drop down screen at the balcony doors to accommodate a projector suspended from the ceiling enabling us to watch Netflix etc (if you have an account). The bedding was top quality and the beds were so very comfortable. Fluffy towels and even dressing gowns to keep you warm when going to and from the Hot Tub. The hosts live in the cottage next door but you would never know. They have black out blinds, as does the property and, at no point did we feel that we were being watched. It's not the easiest of places to find once you get to the village as SAT Nav leads you to what appears to be a dead end but, we were so impressed with Sean, the owner, in the fact that he heard our car and came straight out to us and guided us in the right direction and then took the time to show us around the accommodation which, he has converted all by himself. He has even made the headboards for the beds himself and also the amazing railings for the spiral staircase and the balcony. The upstairs toilet is amazing..Sean has covered the walls with original Wartime Newspapers which are so interesting to read that you are likely to spend more time in there than you should...they make fantastic reading! All we can say is WELL DONE ! ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC! WE WILL BE BACK! Oh...and the Sunday Roast at the local is fabulous!

  Absolutely idyllic, picture perfect and quaint cottage, with amble space for a lovely winter week getaway from city living.

  The cottage was extremely cosy, lovely roaring fires with ample wood kindly supplied by owner. Also, we had a lovely welcome treat of Devonshire cream tea upon arrival, thank you, Charlie, very kind to indeed. The beds/bedding was very comfortable and cosy, underfloor heating was a great hit with our travel cat, who spent most of its time sprawled out on the conservatory floor!! This room was wonderful for breakfast and reading, and we spend the few evenings playing board games we found available here too. The hot tub on the cold winter nights was luxuriating, and was very much in use ! We used herbs we found growing in the garden in some of our cooking, adding to the total comfort of cottage life. We also found the cottage to be a great base for exploring, National Trust Castle Drogo, less than 25mts away, and Dartmoor National Park walks. We also found a beautiful restaurant Bearslake Inn for scrumptious dinner, and The Tors pub with great hearty food after a great walk on the Moors, only a mere 15mts drive away from the cottage. Summing up, Rose cottage ticked more boxes than we had even wished for, we loved the property and highly recommend those wishing an idyllic get away in such a beautiful thatched cottage.   When we arrived, our first view was of two large derelict barns, and this was our view from bedroom two.

  The beds were terribly unclean, all eight pillows were heavy soiled, the bed quilt was also soiled as was the mattress protector, the mattress also was heavily stained… Briony did respond to our text message, replacing 4 pillows with new, this was late afternoon, by then we had washed and dried, the bed quilt, mattress protector and the two pillows … The bed framework had split away from the bed leg and gave way Wednesday night, we moved into the two single beds for the remainder of the night… we decided to leave the property Thursday, as the disruption of a bed changeover would be two much for us. We did text Briony regarding the bed collapsing and she did respond in the afternoon, by that time, we was on our way home.. Your description of the property doesn’t match what we saw, the photograph of some of the views did not exist. We would appreciate a refund of three days, because of losing a day washing, and two days not sleeping there. Ps. Your company did not inform us of the 300 yards approach to the property. The poorly maintained road, singletrack, not good! This is the first time we feel let down by yourselves, hence the low, scoring of 5. It is this particular property, we could not recommend.

  We enjoyed a relaxing holiday in the glorious Devon countryside at Becketts Barn.

  The property is a sympathetically restored barn, done to the highest standards with some great views from the front balcony and was very comfortable. The added bonus of a hot-ish tub is great feature, we used it twice it didn’t ever get over 31deg even though we had been told it was set at 35… We were disappointed that the listing has not been updated because the shop has been closed for a year, which meant getting in our car for a 20 minute drive. The owners Sean and Wenna have good intentions though and he is a nice guy, an initial teething issue with the property not being ready was handled well by him. He also offered to drop us to a local pub for dinner in his vintage car which he would book on our behalf. However this also went wrong because no food was being served on the night we wished to go, we were told this with only an hours notice clearly showing the booking had not been made previously.. he did however offer to drive us out another night and try something else but we declined. Overall we are glad we stayed but for those that want a shop locally look elsewhere because the listing is inaccurate.

  This stay was truly a little slice of paradise.

  The owners John and Angela were the kindest and most welcoming hosts I have ever stayed with. My partner and I stayed over new years, and the views from this home did not disappoint! We had wonderful views overlooking the valley towards Exeter, with ancient woodlands and rolling fields surrounding us. The stay was cosy, incredibly clean, and the attention to detail was so appreciated. From the cupboard with books and board games to use during the stay, to the fully equipped kitchen which was fantastic to cook hearty meals in. The bathroom was spacious, and the bath was luxurious. Super comfy bed and pillows too! Our favourite aspect were the purebred sheep and friendly donkeys on site, who the owners very kindly introduced us to. Although we were not able to use the hot tub for the duration of our stay, the owners and Sykes cottages were extremely helpful with making sure we had anything else we could need. I would highly suggest this stay for any couples wishing to have a relaxing stay, with ample walks and adventures only a short distance away. I hope to return in the near future to stay again!
