What our customers say about their holidays
Gillian - Verified booking
This delightful, comfortable, cottage is situated in the heart of the small village within walking distance the local Pub and Shipley Park.
The access road to the property is poorly maintained and full of deep potholes. No welcome message or instructions are left by the owner. The accommodation itself is as exactly as described on the rental website but is need of thorough spring cleaning and maintenance. The heating works very well and there is plenty of hot water. The lounge is very comfortable, and the smart TV was appreciated. It is unfortunate that there are no TVs in the two double bedrooms. There is no interior door mat from the terrace into the lounge. The downstairs bedroom lacks privacy from the neighbours and only has flimsy horizontal venetian blinds against the windows that have been repaired with staples. There are no black-out curtains resulting in being frequently woken during the night when neighbouring external detection lights switch on. The mattress was comfortable, but the bed rattled each time you turn over. A ceiling light bulb was missing. The stained but washed fitted sheet on the downstairs bed was not deep enough for the mattress. The shower room downstairs is outdated, the toilet is difficult to flush and black grime was apparent around the plug hole on the very low, tiny wash basin and at the bottom of the shower, which has a high step to get into. The extractor fan looked as if it hadnât been cleaned for years. The upstairs bathroom has no shower over the bath and is also outdated. There is nowhere to put your toiletries. The toilet is equally difficult to flush. No bath mats are provided. The kitchen was very functional. The electrical appliances worked well, but the oven was dirty, and most of the temperature/programme indicators have been rubbed away. The extractor over the gas rings was very greasy and the light didnât work. A light tube over the work surface wasnât working and those that did were greasy. Some shelves in the small fridge are broken or missing. The small freezer works well. Some of the cooking instruments in the pots on the work surface were dirty. The dish washer worked well. Hot water seeps from the kitchen tap. The cupboard housing the washing machine has no lighting, was cluttered with empty air fresheners, and needed cleaning. There is no clothes basket nor clothes horse apart from the one outside which is not practical if raining. The private terrace equipped with a tiny table, 6 chairs and a parasol and the garden were appreciated. The lawn needs mowing and the terrace and furniture were all in desperate need of cleaning. The gate to the private parking is impossible to open resulting in having to park the car in the road at the front of the cottage. Some of the latches on the windows are coming unscrewed, the door to the broom cupboard doesnât shut and the mop and bucket need replacing since broken. All in all, this property has the potential of being excellent if only it were better maintained, cleaned more thoroughly, and blackout curtains placed in the downstairs bedroom.

First of all they need new cleaners!
We left the property cleaner than when we entered! The cooker hood hadnt been cleaned for weeks. (We didnt clean that, though). The log burner was full of ash and burnt logs. The cooker shelves were dirty as were flat pan trays and frying pan. We moved a settee to give us more room to get round the table and obviously they hadn't hoovered underneath. It was clean and tidy when walking in but had clearly not been bottomed! We hasd an enjoyable stay although the beds weren't very comfy. Thanks goes to the caretaker who decorated it for christmas. Lack of doormat by the back door (we had to use our towels), sparse utensils (no potato peeler for one). No spare bin bags etc. Not clear enough what the recycling bins were used for. The shower head just trickled water out so we had to take it apart and clean it ourselves! There was absolutely no additions which we have always found when staying in holiday lets. You have to mentally consider whats in your cupboards at home and take with you! No salt and pepper for one and anything else you would use when cooking a meal! The cottage is situated in a very quaint village with plenty of walks and pubs not too far away. We enjoyed our stay but didn't enjoy the cleaning or having to travel into Bakewell to buy the additions!

The location of the property is ideal for visiting Bakewell and the surrounding area.
However, the property is in need of some redecorating in places and was not particularly well-cleaned on our arrival, especially the kitchen/oven/fridge. The bottom oven did not work at all and my email regarding this has not been replied to by your company (neither was a previous one I sent with regard to extending our stay). The tap in the kitchen often fell off as did one of the bottom outside boards on one of the cupboards. There is insufficient cutlery (forks). The shower is tricky to use - there is a very fine line between extremely hot and freezing cold and water leaks out of the back of the shower head. The shower is positioned in the narrowest part of the bath and causes extreme condensation as there is no fan in the bathroom. Generally, there is a lot of condensation on the cottage windows. The parking situation is very tight for two cars, especially as it is advisable to reverse park due to the regularly busy traffic when wishing to drive out. The area outside the cottage is covered in foliage and therefore very slippy after rain or frost. The downstairs area is comfortable and cozy (living & dining room) and the bedrooms are well-sized, with comfortable beds.

The cottage was lovely.
A peaceful, beautiful setting and close to various places - 20min to Matlock Bath, 30min to Alton Towers. It was exceptionally clean and the owner had provided all the essentials - dishwasher tablets, kitchen roll, washing up liquid etc. She had also, very kindly left a bottle of prosecco and home made cake - a lovely touch. Good blackout curtains in bedrooms, so great for kids. Upstairs double could however do with a floor to ceiling mirror on the wall. Highly recommend the The Cock Inn at Mugginton. 5 min drive, food excellent and lovely restaurant with reasonable prices. Only slight negative is the fact there is only one main bathroom (shower) which is upstairs and as far away as it could be from downstairs bedroom. Ok if staying with close family, but may be an issue if staying as a group of friends. With a re-jig, the cloakroom toilet and under stairs could be made into a small shower room, which would make the cottage more appealing. I would definitely stay again if requiring accommodation in the area.

Negative: When we arrived (on a dark November afternoon) the heating was off.
We spent an hour trying to get the heating to come on using the thermostat. Eventually we found the heating was off at the boiler. We never managed to get the thermostat to work and managed the eating by turning it on and off manually. The lighting in the dining room is poor so we couldnt easily read the heating instructions. The Radiator in the bedroom was turned off. The bedside light in the main bedroom had no bulb. There was a 9" by 6â hole in the bathroom ceiling by the light switch. Looks like an electrician did some work in the roof space and didn't close it up. There is a 6" step down on the drive that it would be very easy to damage your car on or twist your ankle. There was nowhere to put drinks etc while watching TV, we brought a bedside table down from upstairs. General cleanliness was "ok" at best. Positive: Comfy bed! Great location near town. Hot shower! Lots of wine glasses
