What our customers say about their holidays

We loved staying in Bay Tree cottage.
It was comfortable and well equipped. The open fire was a big plus when it was snowing outside-very Christmassy. It was a very quick walk into the shops and pubs in Ambleside and there were plenty of walks to do without driving anywhere. This was ideal as we were snowed in on the Saturday and reluctant to drive due to slippy roads on the Sunday. There is a nice little back/side yard which is secure. Our dog did not escape. It was too cold to use the table and chairs outside, but I imagine it would be fantastic to sit there admiring the view. The only thing I would say is to be aware that the heating/boiler can turn itsself off. This happened a couple of times while we were there. But you can turn them back on by switching the separate switch on the wall under the sensor in the wardrobe of the main bedroom. It took us a while to figure this out, so it might be worth making that clear. Our friend stayed with us for a couple of nights and the owners very kindly allowed her to bring her dog. This is a one dog property, so we were delighted when they agreed to let Ivy come too. We had a fantastic visit-one of the best cottages weâve stayed in for comfort and location.

An excellent and well laid-out cottage in what must be one of the most beautiful areas of the Lakes. It was interesting waking up to sheep on the front lawn most days! We had to be careful letting our dog out for his constitution, the only downside of not having a separated garden. Most conveniences provided, we cooked a few nights with no problems at all. Lovely soft water. Good, comfortable beds, I slept for England! Comfortable settees too, for when it was too wet to go out (which happens here a lot apparently!). Residential neighbours on one side who were friendly and welcoming (most of the row are rentals). Only a short 10 mins drive to Ambleside for plenty to do if walking isn't your thing (though why come to the Lakes then?). Shame the weather wasn't better, but can't be helped. One of the few cottages I've visited that I would DEFINATELY come back to. The local shop was useful.

After a very disrupted and long journey from the South on Saturday, it was such a relief to arrive at Knipefold Barn , thanks to the excellent directions we found it at the first attempt. Wow ! What an amazing place ! Everything we could wish for; spotlessly clean, beautifully and intelligently designed and thoughtfully equipped - a real home from home ! Having let out our own holiday home in SW France for several years, we fully appreciate the hard work involved in preparing and maintaining a high-end property for clients, who vary between taking care of and having respect for your property to sadly, the other end of the scale ! We are of the former variety ! We have only been here one night so far but already looking forward to coming back at some point !

Having now been to Bay Tree cottage a few times and loved it, there definitely is attention needed in places - The back of kitchen glass double doors to outside aren't secure.
A lock or bolt top and bottom would prevent them bring able to be pushed open. The little front garden though lovely has a very dangerous little step up, which is all falling to bits - accident spot. This time we found a very toxic smell when oven was on. It continued each and every time and therefore didn't seem to be from any cleaning agent that may have been previously used. The kitchen door we had previously mentioned, it would be far more practical opening flat against sitting room wall than awkwardly into kitchen . Overall however, the property is really cosy and very well kitted out and in great location. With attention given to these few changes..... we would highly recommend it to anyone . The cottage was cozy and comfortable.
The location was great - short walk to Ambleside and more strenuous walks around the Fells. We enjoyed the fire and the kitchen was well equipped except for dishwasher tablets (only one supplied for 2 people and not enough cutlery to last more than 2 days), no paper towels and only 1½ toilet rolls provided for 2 people for a week. Most of the cottage was very clean but the broom pan was full of dog fur and dirt that had not been tipped out. The drainage in the shower was poor and the fridge was freezing some veggies. If these issues were remedied it would be an ideal cottage. We had a problem with the hot water failing but Sykes were swift to respond and Dave was around within an hour to fix the boiler.
