What our customers say about their holidays

A clean cottage, very convenient for the centre of Thirsk and its attractions.
Not sure though why it deserved its 5tick rating by Sykes :we have stayed in much better standard Sykes 4 tick properties It wasn't a particularly welcoming cottage and had none of the homely touches we have found in other Sykes cottages (initial tea /coffee etc , cleansing materials, books, games, etc) , parking access was awkward with the narrow gap and cobbles, the parking area itself overgrown , it was a dark dingy cottage , the lighting was not well thought out for practicality either upstairs or downstairs, the lounge seating was Ok for 2 adults but not 4 (see other guest comments) , the outside sitting area for 2 was basic and close to the waste bins, the beds weren't particularly comfortable or warm, we had to buy our own hair dryer (normal provided in Sykes cottages) , no laundry basket provided, some sort of divider/curtain for the opening between the kitchen and lounge to reduce the noise when using eg the washing machine would have been appreciated, the kitchen/diner layout was not ideal use of space and the oven /microwave both quite complicated to work out how to use, the washing up bowl wasn't large enough to fit the dinner plates ,the cloakroom downstairs was quite cramped ................

Absolutely lovely little cottage 90second walk from the centre of Thirsk.
The property had everything we needed (apart from a jug in the kitchen) the adjoining neighbour was extremely friendly and gave us the use of a single garage to store our bikes. The so called off road parking was completely unacceptable, the vehicle access was dangerously close to a wall and the front of the property - an inch at best either side of the car with no room for error. (Renault megane size vehicle) Larger height vehicles or bikes on roof etc would not pass under the arch way from the road either! The front neighbours also blocked access by parking in front of their garage door in a way that made it impossible to get by for the majority of our visit. The cottage does provide a parking permit to allow roadside parking when itâs available. This is not ideal when you have a dog and bicycles etc to move to and from the cottage. If you have a tiny car and are brave enough the cottage has a type of off road parking, if not, its roadside only. In my opinion it should be clearer about the parking situation. The cottage is lovely apart from that!!

Oh what bliss!
The Hambleton hills are a wonderful location, and the Cottage was just perfect as a base. I've probably been to North Yorkshire twenty or so times and here was by far the best. Nestled beside Kevin Ryan's horse gallop, the views across the moors were amazing. It's an ideal base if you enjoy walking/hiking. Poppy, my 13 year old Labrador clocked up around 14 miles throughout the week, while I managed over 50. Thirsk and Helmsley are only 6 miles away, with Byland and Rievaulx Abbeys even closer. The cottage is warm and cosy. My first night in the large bed was very comfortable and reminded me that I definitely need a new mattress at home. Everything you would need for a holiday could be found in the cottage. My planned healthy week away started badly due to the delicious lemon sponge cakes that the owner had left as a welcome present. (Thank you Liz). I'm not sure when, but I will be going back. The Cottage has everything you need for a perfect, relaxing holiday.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Cottage.
Its location is great almost next door the the North Yorkshire Moors Centre at Sutton Bank. Need to be careful locating the cottage on the online map as the position is misleading - this needs to be adjusted on the map to place it in the farm rather than over and up the road where I wound up initially. It is on the left at the first gate you come to past the Centre. There was a nice welcome pack and fresh cakes awaiting us on arrival. The welcome pack lasted us all week. One issue we found as doddery old folk: the bath/shower was difficult to get into when your body is not a agile as it used to be, it is also quite slippery in the bath and on the floor on entry and exit. When we met a problem with the TV, the response to the telephone call was almost instant. Thank you for a great stay. The location was ideal for visiting so much of North Yorkshire.

Wonderful clean cottage.
I was welcomed by host with a brief chat and left to myself for rest of week wihout being disturbed. Views were tremendous in a superb location, with so many options for activities. The cottage had a very comfy bed and some cakes and basket of goodies to welcome me. Was quiet and secure. Just what I wanted. One of the days I cycled to top of Black Hanbleton and another day up the same track but to the escarpment. Naturally an afternoon stroll to White horse from the cottage and trips to Helmsley and Osmotherly area. I was a little lazy and often returned at noon to watch the smart tv and do some laptop work. The Wifi kep up most of the times but did go off sometimes - about 0.5% down. No worries there. I will return as so much more to do. I am in recovery after recent heart attack so did not do as much as I wanted to do.
