What our customers say about their holidays

Firstly the camera work makes this place look very spacious, imo this accommodation is suited to 4 occupants at most .
On arrival we found there is no curtain at the front door ,which is right opposite both bedroom doors ,luckily there was no one occupying the opposite lodge . When we went to cook on the first night my wife had to spend 40 mins cleaning the oven ,as oven was not clean at all ,we do have photos if disputed (on wife's phone ) ,we found an empty bubble bath bottle down the back of the bath , several cobwebs and a cake wrapper in the cupboard upstairs where the upstairs hoover is stored ,which would have been easy to see if you were to use the hoover . We left a day early as both double beds had mattresses that had seen better days and were not kind to my wife's back , we slept on the two single beds for 2 nights as the beds are higher and the mattresses are newer and had to bring the the blind from upstairs to provide some privacy at the front door . The lodge is set in quite a nice area but I think would be quite busy if all lodges were fully occupied ,but as it was quiet this was not an issue . The kitchen is well equipped with very good appliances ( un clean oven already mentioned ) , perhaps bigger tvs in all rooms . The hi light was the hot tub which was most welcome after a walk We have stayed with sykes before and enjoyed it very much but this time not so much .

The accommodation as lovely as it is and in a great setting often felt like you were on a building site.
It is not made clear that the site is not yet completed and ongoing development continues to include tarmac surfacing to the main entrance, drilling and ongoing construction work. I had to request coat hangers as only 2 were in the wardrobe- the owner was prompt at providing lots more the following day. The seal in the shower was faulty so we were not able to use this, again I informed the owner of this. Lighting on the site is poor at night and the current lighting doesnât seem adequate, we arrived at night and really struggled navigating the lodge in the dark. It would also have been helpful to have bins closer to the lodges - the current arrangements are at the entrance gate. This site was great for accessing the park and ride service which is a 5 minute walk away. The lodges are well equipped and clean and it is nice that dogs are welcome. I would like to revisit when the site is fully complete - the views and scenery are stunning and from our lodge we could see Whitby Abbey a good base for a break near Whitby.

We had a great time at the lodge.
From the outside the lodge is starting to look just a little worn in; but once you step through the door the nice open plan living area worked really well and felt very luxurious. The only builds weâd have were: the beds themselves, though spacious werenât very comfortable for us (too soft and supporting) so both have left with some backache There was also building work taking place during our stay which we werenât informed about (looks like new access being created for additional lodges close by) so check when youâre booking as does interrupt the tranquility when youâre relaxing in the hot tub. Hot tub was great for us as a 2, be mindful if youâre a party of 6 that itâs a 3/4 person tub. Plenty big enough for us, but would be very snug for 6. Overall the lodge worked really well for us, and despite never fully working out the temperature to cool the bathrooms a little; the velux windows throughout upstairs made it easy to regulate.

The booking process for Bracken Howe Lodge was very straightforward as was the payment process.
Information about our stay (e.g. check in and check out process, things to do) was sent out in advance and the site itself was very quick to respond to a direct question I asked them about whether you can get online groceries delivered to the site (you can by the way - you just need to meet the delivery van in the car par by the site entrance). The Ladycross site was very pleasant. It's nice and quiet and there is plenty of woodland in which you're free to roam. Bracken Howe Lodge was also lovely. It can be easy to quibble about lots of little things when writing reviews like this (e.g. it would have been nice if they'd provided this or that), but I don't think it's ever possible for the owners to think of every little thing to include in the lodge or to cater for absolutely everybody's tastes - all I can say is that overall both me and my family thought that this property was really good and we would recommend it.

Comfortable, clean, spacious and well equipped lodge in beautiful, peaceful surroundings.
Plenty of room for our family of three. We loved the mezzanine level with comfortable bed and modern ensuite. The other bedrooms were a good size and the family bathroom with the free standing bath was lovely. The hot tub is a great edition and we managed to use it every day even though the weather wasn't brilliant. Although the wooden decking outside and on the doorstep gets very slippy in the rain. We struggled with the television at first and there is a lack of plug sockets in the living area. The kettle could also do with a descale. Great location for exploring Whitby and the surrounding area. Highly recommended the witching post inn for a Sunday lunch! Overall a brilliant place for a quiet and relaxing break. Bring some feed for the chickens!
