What our customers say about their holidays
Mrs Caroline O'shaughnessy - Verified booking
This is our second visit to Limefitt Park but our first in Troutbeck Retreat Lodge.
Upon arriving on Monday, everything about the lodge was fab, and hubby, me, 2 kids, and a dog, settled in for the week. On Tuesday morning we noticed that the cabin was cold and we just assumed the heating was on a timer and switched off for the night. The thermostat was raised, and the heating seemed to work although I noticed the water for the shower wasn't very hot. Wednesday morning, the boiler wasn't on, Low Pressure on the dial, which explains why it was off and lights flashing. By the evening time, we decided to call the number shown in the manual and my hubby got through to a lovely maintenance man from 'Lake district Lodge Holidays'. He came out and had a look, but then told us that because the lodge was 'privately owned' he couldn't do anything. So, he told us to phone another number which was a different company, but surprisingly it rang his phone. He was unaware that this other number had been patched through to his phone. So then he thought it best to go and find the Park Manager which he did and brought him back to the lodge. The Park manager reiterated the same issue that he couldn't do anything because the Lodge is privately owned. The boiler was reset and even though the pressure was still low, it worked again. Thursday morning, lodge freezing, now NO water, no boiler. My hubby thought best to go to the reception at the Park to report No Water. The person on reception explained that since the lodge was privately owned there wasn't anything she could do. At this point, my hubby was not happy. All he wanted to hear was an apology for the inconvenience and that someone would be looking into the problem. But all he got was 'it's not our problem' and I quote 'what do you want me to do about it'! Then there was a conversation about the 'red tape'. So, there is the privately owned Lodge, that sits on a holiday park owned by Parkdean Resorts, which apparently has now been bought over by Sykes Cottages, and the privately owned Lodge is rented out by Lake District Lodge Holidays who is now the company to report the fact there is no water on a site that belongs to Parkdean Resorts, who's staff are on-site but don't help out if you happen to be a customer of a privately owned lodge. As it turns out, there was in fact a burst water main on-site that affected the whole park, which I was eventually notified of by Lake District Lodge Holidays, even though it was a Parkdean Resort problem to resolve. In reference to this Lodge, It should be made very clear to the customer on the first day of a holiday, that any issues of any kind must be referred to Lake District Lodge Holidays only. Unfortunately, we only received that message on Thursday. It was a very stressful holiday for us but a burst water main could happen at any time and is not really the fault of anyone so we are looking at it as bad luck, but it could have been handled better by Parkdean staff. What did you enjoy most about your stay? The location, views. What one experience (e.g attraction, walk, day out) would you recommend for our future guests? Hill Walking.

Westbrook Lodge is amazing.
It was easy to gain entry to the Parkdean site on arrival, with a barrier code from reception. There was ample parking for two vehicles with steps up to, and a gate on to the deck. The vestibule/utility area as you enter the lodge itself was ideal for storing coats, bags and shoes, and meant the lodge didn't feel cluttered with our "stuff". The kitchen area is gorgeous and very well equipped. There was more at the lodge than we were expecting e.g.; tea towels, oven gloves, tin foil, kitchen roll, washing up liquid, cloths, spare bin bags, hand wash etc. There were also a couple of dishwasher tablets and condiments (e.g.; salt, pepper, vinegar). It's hard to say whether these items are usually included or had been left by previous guests because the checklist we received with our booking confirmation said for us to pack most of those items - it was a nice surprise. We found everything easy to use and the instruction manual/quick start guide was easy to follow. The bed in the master bedroom was very comfortable. We travelled as a couple, and so we didn't use bedroomâs 2 or 3, but they were all good sized rooms (two doubles, one twin) with storage and wall-mounted TV's. It's unusual to be able to say there were lots of coat hangers - but there really were. And having two bathrooms was a real treat (with the ensuite being bigger than our bathroom at home!). The Parkdean site itself was lovely and quiet with a short walk to the lake. There are plenty of rubbish bin and recycling points around the park. Bowness-on-Windermere itself is a 5-7 minute walk away and ideal for the shops, bars and restaurants. We really enjoyed seeing the town come alive in the evenings whilst enjoying a cocktail (perhaps two?) in the Fizzy Tarte, and there are a couple of fish & chip shops (amongst other takeaways and amenities) if you didn't want to eat out, but didn't fancy cooking either. We would definitely stay here again.

Good stay, lovely location, could do with a little TLC before it starts to deteriorate.
On unpacking I noticed the kitchen had lots of crockery and utensils, although I had brought things from home this was a bonus due to cooking Christmas dinner. Appliances in the kitchen worked good(fridge/freezer is on the small side), the washer is a bit hit and miss I had to change the program over to spin and rinse a few times because it went on for hours. The cooker and hobs are great. Plenty of plugs in each room and switches for lights etc. The patio doors didn't open and I reported this but I'm still waiting for someone to get back to me..... The place warms up quickly and the showers both work well. There was mold around the bottom of the ensuite shower which needs redoing but other than that the bathrooms are nice enough. The beds are comfy and bedding were all clean. There was a hoover and they even left dishwasher tablets and a few cloths and t-towels. There was a power cut on site on Christmas Eve but was quickly sorted out. The WiFi was very strong, this could have been the time of year and the camp being quiet, we had an issue on the first night but just reset the modem and it worked fine throughout our stay. The surrounding area is beautiful and well worth an explore. The park has a beck that runs aside it and during the summer this would be a lovely setting as there are picnic benches and plenty of areas to explore. None of the facilities were open during our stay but we didn't need them. The decor is OK, few scuffs and shows of wear and tear, the lino in the kitchen is bumpy and the carpet is a little old but overall we enjoyed our stay and would definitely come back.

We would stay at Limefitt again, this was our second time but this lodge was a disappointment.
Hopefully the boiler will have been sorted out, we had to reset it every morning to get hot water and have the heating on. There is a washer dryer but even with the instruction leaflet we couldnât get the drying part to work which is probably why the blurb says it has a washing machine. The dishwasher needs salt and rinse aid, but we were surprised that these were not provided, totally get you have to bring dish washer tablets from home. The kitchen is well stocked with utensils, pans etc. Spare bin bags were not left so take more of those. Be careful with the bank of switches on the kitchen wall, the switch for the fridge freezer is there and it is easy to switch it off in error. If you do need to call LDH, they are good at arranging for wardens, engineers to visit, the out of hours number given to us on the email we received was for the warden at Whitecross Bay, no doubt this was a computer error when Skyes Cottages merged with LDH. The best thing about this lodge is that there is tool kit is the bottom drawer!

Another really excellent stay at Limefit Park.
Once again the lodge we chose,( Troutbeck Retreat ) was excellent in every respect. The lodge was spotless and was so well appointed it felt a proper home from home. The kitchen had everything you could want and was really spacious and easy to work. Television in every room if needed and a DVD player. Lounge nice and comfortable with plenty of seating. We would definitely book this lodge again. If you are in Limefit Park a visit to the Haybarn pub is a must if you do not fancy cooking. Meals are good and well presented and very reasonably priced. What did you enjoy most about your stay? The lodge facilities What one experience (e.g attraction, walk, day out) would you recommend for our future guests? A day at Keswick market on a Thursday is a must. Also if you go to Hawkshead, visit the little Sun cafe. Might be small but the food and service is excellent.
