What our customers say about their holidays

If I had one word to describe this property it would be WOW!
The cottage was immaculate, hats off to the family that own the property as they have kept it traditional but with modern features. The cottage was perfect and had everything you could possibly need. I really liked the guest book and reading other visitors messages and they loved West View as much as we did! We donât have a pet but the property is dog friendly and had all the things you need to accommodate a furry friend. The garden is gorgeous we didnât get the chance to enjoy it as we had some rain , but this gives an excuse to comeback. The location of the property is great, all the main spots to visit in the Lakes is less than a 30 min drive. If you didnât fancy driving out there are lots of places/walking trails right on the door step. The owners have provided a booklet with leaflets you need to operate the equipment in the property but I especially liked the property history and background of the family that own the cottage which I thought was a lovely touch. The owners have also provided a rack of leaflets of food outlets, local activities, walks and areas of interest which was great and we made use of. The owner Janet before we arrived contacted myself directly via SMS, which I thought was really helpful as then I had a number I could contact if I need to during our stay. I couldnât recommend this property enough ! It was just perfect and we look forward to coming back!

A very cosy, traditional cottage in the centre of Ambleside.
Parking for 1 car outside the front door. Extremely quiet location. Small rear garden is a bonus. Accommodation was clean and compact. The loft twin room has limited headroom (not great for my 5'10" daughter) and has no door but was warm and had comfy beds. The 1st floor double bedroom was spacious and the bed was extremely comfy. Lovely view of Loughrigg from the window. Lounge was cosy with a gas fire and 2x two seater leather sofas, a dining table and access to a very handy understairs laundry cupboard. Washing machine and tumble dryer were easy to use. The kitchen was small but had everything needed for cooking. The underfloor heating was in here only and was set at 16° but this was too low as the kitchen was always cold. A mild heat could be felt on the floor by the sink. Bathroom was airy, clean and warm as it housed the water tank and gas boiler. Shower was powerful and the bath was a much need bonus after a day on the fells. There is a separate lockable bike store if needed. Loads of books, games, jigsaws and dad's. The only negatives were the cold kitchen and that there were no curtains on the kitchen door or window and on the landing window (this had a net curtain with clear glass!!) I like privacy so stuck kitchen roll over the kitchen door widow and used tea towels on the landing window. We are already planning to return next summer. Overall we give the cottage 8/10

Firstly I would like to say we really enjoyed our stay the property was beautifully furnished with an impeccable taste and all bedding, towels etc were of excellent quality.
The good quality hand wash and toiletries were an additional touch which was appreciated. We enjoyed the snacks and tea/coffee etc which were left to welcome us. However we had a few issues when compared to our other holiday breaks in the uk; Their wasnât a detailed welcome pack containing information/instructions for operating the central heating or for the fire in the sitting room. The water pressure in the showers is not very good. The main bathroom has no window blind and that is an issue as the window is not frosted. The kitchen did not have a long handled brush, dustpan &brush for general cleaning. The plinth under the kitchen units keeps falling when you open the dishwasher which was something we had to be careful with to avoid it falling on our toes. For some reason there were two greasy roasting tins in the cupboard and one chipped drinking glass. A mat at the entrance would mean we had somewhere to wipe our feet and the floor can be kept clean especially when faced with rainy weather. Lastly the WiFi connection was not very good. Just some points which if rectified would definitely give the property 5 stars.

An excellent and well laid-out cottage in what must be one of the most beautiful areas of the Lakes. It was interesting waking up to sheep on the front lawn most days! We had to be careful letting our dog out for his constitution, the only downside of not having a separated garden. Most conveniences provided, we cooked a few nights with no problems at all. Lovely soft water. Good, comfortable beds, I slept for England! Comfortable settees too, for when it was too wet to go out (which happens here a lot apparently!). Residential neighbours on one side who were friendly and welcoming (most of the row are rentals). Only a short 10 mins drive to Ambleside for plenty to do if walking isn't your thing (though why come to the Lakes then?). Shame the weather wasn't better, but can't be helped. One of the few cottages I've visited that I would DEFINATELY come back to. The local shop was useful.

We had a lovely week at Sunset Cottage.
It's location is perfect and having a parking space outside was a huge bonus ( our car is a huge VW Sharan and fit easily). It is a very short stroll into the heart of the village with all of the amenities Ambleside has to offer. The cottage is comfortably furnished and we found it to be warm and cosy in the sub zero weather we had. Though we didn't use it we could see that the pretty courtyard garden would be a nice place to sit out on warmer days. Other reviewers have commented on the small size of the kitchen, we found it to be exactly as advertised and well thought out. We had no problem cooking meals, though any more than 2 people in it at a time would definitely be impossible! There are many books, DVDs and games to keep you entertained if you don't fancy venturing out on an evening. We had a fantastic stay and would happily return to Sunset Cottage in the future
