What our customers say about their holidays

The cottage is situated in a beautiful position within the village.
However, we could not describe our stay as comfortable. The old Leather sofa bed/settee was really uncomfortable, the cushions would have given some support, but they were flat and seemed to be lacking any inner pads, the cushions were also marked and dirty. The downstairs was quite dark too. The kitchen was adequate but the cooker was sooooooo slow in heating up, we gave up cooking one night. There needs to be an investment within the property to bring it anywhere near comfortable. The bathroom was peculiar, with a window which was difficult to open, and in a unusual location. There was a bath and a mixer tap, with no hook to hold the spray head in place, to shower? Also zero shower screen or curtain, so water went everywhere! The bedroom was spacious, sadly again the bed uncomfortable, with little luxury to describe. All in all, a disappointing stay in terms of comfort. It's definitely not home from home, more TLC needs to be added to the cottage. Outdoor chairs, a welcome pack of goodies too, fresh flowers on arrival. After a 6 hour journey, half a pint of milk was less than adequate. We would not return to this property, but we would stay in Askrigg again. It's a wonderful location and village.

We had a truly wonderful stay at Lavender Cottage It was everything we had hoped for Cosy quaint and full of Yorkshire charm The cottage was very well equipped and had everything we needed We stayed just before Christmas and the owner had decorated it and it made us feel very Christmassy We were sent a very informative email prior to our stay with lots of useful information including places of interest to visit The area around Wensleydale is absolutely beautiful and most places were very dog friendly The village had three lovely pubs serving very good food and all very friendly and dog friendly which was great We were made to feel very welcome and we had a lovely time Very restful but also some stunning scenery to take in on our walks The whole area is steeped in history from castles to historic market towns and beautiful old pubs and breathtaking waterfalls I would highly recommend a visit to this beautiful part of Yorkshire and Lavender Cottage in the gorgeous Yorkshire Dales Penny and Carl Atvarnieks

Due to COVID we were one year late arriving.
This also turned out to be the wettest week of the year so far (beyond anyoneâs control) We always found a parking space outside the Church gates and yes it is a bit of a hike through the church yard with your luggage but well worth it. Have walked much further in some Hotels or Airports. The cottage itself was spotlessly clean, all COVID measures taken and well equipped. There are an enormous amount if DVD,s to watch and the Broadband connection is excellent. The bedding and towels provided weâre of excellent quality. The only slight downside to the cottage was it was very cold at times as only two radiator heaters and fan heater in bathroom. You can light a coal fire but as we had done this for over 40 years we decided not to do so. The weather was unseasonably cold during our stay. This is an excellent base for touring The Dales and the scenery is out of this world. Askrigg is a beautiful unspoilt village and has pubs a shop and a fresh takeaway bakery. A very enjoyable stay

There are three items about this cottage that should be made explicit in the published details, as these surprised us when we encountered them: 1.
It is essential to be able to park close to the church to gain access to the cottage, but in the week that we were there, there were times when there weren't any parking spaces available. This would be extremely awkward for anyone who was elderly or disabled. 2. Everything that has to be transported from the parked car to the cottage has to be carried down the path across the churchyard, at the end of which is a very narrow gap in the stone wall which has to be negotiated. This would be impossible for most people with physical disabilities. 3. The narrow grassed area outside the front door of the cottage is not just a 'shared' area, it's actually a public right of way, which is used regularly by walkers who pass by immediately by the front door. This can make it difficult to enjoy sitting outside in this area if the weather is fine and it is restrictive if you have a dog which you want to be outside with you.

We booked a 4 day break away with our Golden Retriever to this gem of a cottage.
The village is lovely 3 good pubs and a great tea room, the surrounding area had great walks not as brutal as those in the Lake District..... Which was better for our lazy dog and my knees.... The cottage is located at the end of a church yard with no designated parking but there was plenty of space in the village and a honesty box. The interior was clean and modern with a beautiful fireplace and a comfortable layout for 2 people..... The only drawbacks were lack of shower.... Although a great long, deep bath is present and the poor Internet..... Which whilst we were on holiday had a few work related emails which we had to use Wi-Fi at a local hostelry to complete (this increased my alcohol consumption)..... The owner texted us to see how we were settling in which was a lovely touch..... I look forward to visiting lavender cottage again for a chilled switched off time in the future.
