What our customers say about their holidays

  • Laura - Verified booking

    Where do we start?

From the moment we arrived we were blown away by how magical this place was and we knew we were going to have the most amazing time. We were greeted with the warmest welcome from Brenda and Dave who are such a lovely couple and were on hand for anything we needed throughout our stay. They had also kindly decorated our hut for my fiancé’s 30th Birthday! They provided us with a 2 day food hamper on request which was filled with everything you could possibly think of or need for the duration of your stay, including produce from local shops and suppliers, and not forgetting all of the delicious home cooked and baked items from Brenda herself. We would highly recommend ordering the food hamper, not only was it convenient but everything was such amazing quality and so tasty! The complimentary Shepherd’s pie (which was out of this world by the way) and bottle of Prosecco was such a lovely touch! To access The Shepherd’s Hideaway you go through a small gap in the hedges and down a winding path lit with festoon lights until you reach the spectacular Hut which was made by Dave himself! The hut is decorated so tastefully and is fully equipped with modern appliances, cutlery, crockery and glassware including a log burner, TV, and your own private hot tub with incredible views of the sunset over Scotland. The complimentary fluffy robes and slippers were also great! As soon as we arrived we already knew we wanted to come back, and our parents have booked off the back of our glowing recommendation! We cannot wait for our next stay, thank you!

I used to camp at Limefitt when I was a child with my parents and have been many times.

Now I have my own family we decided to return and I couldn’t have been more happy with how the site had been improved and cared for. It is in a great location and is very quiet. The views from the site are very nice. We walked up the hill at the back of the site (from the pub) and had a lovely view of lake Windermere and surrounding areas. The lodge was lovely. Very spacious, the decor and furnishings are very modern and looked new. No issues at all whilst we stayed and would book again. I am being very picky but there was dust under the beds and on some of the living area sides. Nothing major at all as I wiped it easily enough. Due to the time of year and the weather we had, it would’ve been good to have a place to put our walking shoes and coats as they got wet and muddy. But that is to prevent dirt in the lodge more than anything. But as I said before I would 100% book again as the lodge was comfy, warm and had home comforts. I brought my dog and felt he was included in our time away as we walked him round the site and used the dog field. Dogs are allowed in the pub too which is great. I would recommend the site and Lavender Lodge. I hope to return later this year as had such a brilliant 4 nights. Thank you to the owners of the lodge and the site for the time we had there.

    WHAT A PLACE!

!!! This small family run business is certainly one to look out for. The location itself is magnificent, with amazing views! We stayed for 3 nights, and it was just perfect. The hot tub is definitely the thing that captures people for these types of getaways. Enough cannot be said for the location, or the family that run these hideaways. If you want a private getaway this would be the one. I was so impressed with the cleanliness, the overall look of the lodge. We had everything we need. The owners were excellent always there for us when we needed them. It is an easy drive into the Lake District for walks, and site seeing. Not to mention the views themself from the lodge. Its quiet, its private, it unique. I would recommend this lodge to anyone! If you want to relax on some annual leave, or you just want a break, this is the place. I will certainly be coming back, to explore even more. Family run businesses are too and far between nowadays, but this one hits the spot, it just shows there are still small businesses who care!!! Get yourself down to the hideaway and lodges, you will not be disappointed! I just want to say a massive thank you to the family that run this, we had an excellent time, and really wish them all the best.

    What an incredible little hut!

From the moment we stepped out the car we loved it - the owners were so welcoming and accommodating for us and there was a complimentary shepherds pie & bottle of bubbly waiting for us in the hut. The hot tub was ready for us to use. It is such a lovely, secluded area that we never wanted to leave. We drove about an hour away from the hut each day to visit the different lakes but that was personal choice, there is lots of walks nearby and places to visit that we could have. We had dinner at a local pub which was lovely. Cooking facilities in the hut were great, bathroom was lovely and the space was incredible. The views you could not get any better than that, there were a lovely herd of cows just outside the back fence of the hut which was lovely scenery. The town surrounding the hut (Brampton) was great, and a short 20 min drive to the lovely town of Carlisle was great - we did this one day then visited Keswick the next, and Windermere after that. Hot tub was perfect and very private. All round amazing experience and will be booking again. Everything we needed was available at the hut, and the owners were more than accommodating to anything we asked.

    What an absolute gem!

My wife and I booked at High Rigg for our "mini-moon" (the original having been cancelled due to Covid-19). We were taken a back by everything about the accommodation. To get to it you disappear through an entrance in a beech hedgerow and follow the fairy lights festooned through the trees to the lodge - totally enchanting and even more beautiful when the sun goes down. The accommodation was of the highest standard and we were greeted with a homemade shepherds pie and a vegetable lasagne plus a bottle of prosecco courtesy of our hosts. The bed was supremely comfy and the log burner made the lodge super cosy. Everything was spotlessly clean and our privacy was maintained throughout our stay. Life didn't seem as if it could to get much better as we sat in the luxurious hot tub sipping on the finest champagne and admiring the endless views towards Scotland. We were so thoroughly taken with this lodge that we had already booked to stay again in 2022 before we set off back to reality. I for one, cannot recommend High Rigg highly enough
