  Acorn Cottage in Grasmere presents a bit of a conundrum!

  It's evident that the owners spared no expense in renovating and refurbishing the property to a high standard several years ago, with top-of-the-range white goods in the kitchen and quality furnishings throughout. However, time has taken its toll, and the cottage now appears quite worn, with an urgent need for a full redecoration and soft furnishing replacements in several rooms to restore it to its former glory. In addition to requiring a complete redecoration, it needs a thorough spring clean to refresh its appearance. The paintwork, windows and doors are all quite grimy and necessitate attention beyond the customary cleaning after guest departures. If we had our grandchildren with us, we would not have felt comfortable placing them in the stained and unclean highchair. Additionally, the property's eco credentials are less than ideal, as all windows are single-glazed, and prone to being cold and draughty. At the outset of our stay, we discovered that the TV aerial cable was damaged, resulting in no TV reception. We contacted Lakelovers in the morning, and their maintenance personnel promptly replaced the cable within a couple of hours - full credit to them for their efficient response. In the meantime, as the WIFI signal was good, we were able to stream Netflix, iPlayer, etc to our devices. Despite its shortcomings, we found the location of the property to be ideal as it was just a short walk from the charming centre of Grasmere. We enjoyed our brief stay there and appreciated the convenience of having a car parking space suitable for our estate car and being in such proximity to the cafes, bars, and restaurants made our short stay even more enjoyable.

  What a gorgeous holiday house!

  Admittedly, one I might not have booked based on previous negative reviews but I booked late so had little choice and went for its location. Am so glad I did - yes the location is perfect close to central Grasmere but on a quiet lane where walkers pass starting their treks. On the doorstep are walks to Easedale Tarn, Helm Crag, circular lake walks and Silver How. But the cottage itself is also so lovely, tastefully and recently decorated, small but perfectly formed kitchen with fancy oven and enviable cutlery draw. Mini welcome packs of tea bags, dishwasher tabs etc provide the basics. Generous lounge with log fire we didn’t need in balmy August. Two lovely bedrooms with sumptuous bedding and heavy curtains and a modern luxury bathroom with lots of hot water. The heating works well (ok it wasn’t that balmy). Highly recommend and will come back if I can! Yes there’s no cheese grater but the co-op sells grated cheese and frankly there’s more in life to worry about! Bring your kitchen basics and an oven tray if you need one, and enjoy this gem!

  Wythebank was very comfortable, clean, and in a beautiful location.

  The internet even though warned it had a weak signal worked pretty well in the rooms with good proximity to the hub! It’s truly a lovely cottage making a great base overall. Loved the piano too… 2 things though: it would be good to have a Welcome Pack provided with basic items on arrival as the nearest shop is quite a drive - we were fine as we brought lots of provisions! And the other thing is the road (Hodge Close) which runs for about 2 miles up to Wythebank, it’s pretty scary, especially if a car is coming in the opposite direction not near a passing place! That said, Wythebank is well-worth negotiating this road too, because once you get there the charming cottage makes for a lovely break! Good for our dogs too with an enclosed garden and spoilt for choice with plentiful walks through the most breathtaking scenery in all directions on your doorstep - 4.5 Stars and 5-Stars if a Welcome Pack was provided!   An excellent and well laid-out cottage in what must be one of the most beautiful areas of the Lakes. It was interesting waking up to sheep on the front lawn most days! We had to be careful letting our dog out for his constitution, the only downside of not having a separated garden. Most conveniences provided, we cooked a few nights with no problems at all. Lovely soft water. Good, comfortable beds, I slept for England! Comfortable settees too, for when it was too wet to go out (which happens here a lot apparently!). Residential neighbours on one side who were friendly and welcoming (most of the row are rentals). Only a short 10 mins drive to Ambleside for plenty to do if walking isn't your thing (though why come to the Lakes then?). Shame the weather wasn't better, but can't be helped. One of the few cottages I've visited that I would DEFINATELY come back to. The local shop was useful.

  So we booked this cottage to be local to Grasmere and the surrounding fells to hike.

  Wonderful location for this . Lots of privacy , set apart from nearby houses. I had previously read on TripAdvisor that this cottage lacked basic amenities and supplies . But we were pleasantly surprised to find it had everything we needed for a cosy Lakeland stay . There is a hairdryer , contrary to the cottage description omission of this . Plus appreciated welcome pack and kitchen cleaning products. Lovely wood burner used twice after wet days on the fells which quickly warmed us and dried our clothes. Good sized shower room/ bathroom . We would use this cottage again. What could be improved is maintenance of the outside furniture : needs sanding and painting . Plus bed protectors and duvet needs cleaning as these were stained . I'd also add coat hooks by the kitchen radiator/ cupboard. Thank you .
