  Scarbeck House was excellent for our week in Masham. We used it as a base for many very good walks in the local area and never used our car. It is very well equipped with loads of good crockery and cutlery and a very well equipped kitchen with lots of worktop space. The beds were all comfortable although the room at the top of the house was a little cold and not very spacious but would be ideal for children in warmer months. The road outside was quite busy and large lorries seemed to start passing from around 5am (weekdays) and went on for most of the day, but there is not much that can be done about that. The owner phoned a few days before we arrived and was very helpful and friendly. All five of us in the group, agreed it was an excellent place to stay and it's very likely we will be back again, either in the same group or with our families. I would have no hesitation in recommending Scarbeck House.

  This house is a lovely place for a family to relax and enjoy time together. Masham is a fantastic location, so much right on the doorstep so you hardly need drive although we explored Ripon and a nearby abbey. Walking with dogs and kids is great, market on your front door, pubs nearby and the breweries were all great places to visit. With art and coffee shops, two butchers and a fantastic grocers we enjoyed local produce as well as the pubs and the fish and chips – excellent! House is a brilliant size, rooms clean and well equipped with lovely bathrooms and lots of hot water. So nice to have the option of an open fire and so much space for all the family – huge fridge and two ovens as we like to cook, perfect! Easy to clean floor meant the dogs were fine on the ground floor and the games room was enjoyed by all. We loved the area, loved the house and really enjoyed a wonderful weekend.

  We had a wonderful break with three generations of family and our dog visiting the ancestorial home of Masham, even though one grandparent had recently broken his hip after the holiday had been booked the owners where very accommodating, even the stairs on the first two levels where manageable under the circumstances, the house had everything needed to enjoy a comfortable stay and there are still the wonderful places to eat like the Kings arms and a local café that provided our lunch time menu very efficiently, the garden is fully enclosed with a back gate / path to get you to the front of the house, this was ideal for muddy paws and wellies to clean off before accessing the kitchen area. We also received a lovely welcome pack and a postcard ( which I forgot to take home with me!! )welcoming us to the property. I would certainly recommend this property and will be back in the future.

  This large property is very comfortable and spacious spread out over three floors plus the play barn a few steps across the small courtyard garden. The property overlooks the market square with pubs, cafes, bakeries, takeaways, and sweet shops right on your doorstep. A larger food store is found a few minutes away, as well as several breweries if you want to sample some local ales. The countryside is almost on your doorstep with riverside walks a few minutes away on foot. Many other local walks and areas of interest can be found within 5 - 10 mile radius of the property which is ideal if you do not want to spend hours in the car.

  Dare I write this, for fear of never being able to rent this place again, but The Merchants House is an absolutely amazing property: the location is perfect for the (very) local food and drink on offer; a great amount of places to visit within 30 minutes drive; and close enough for day trips to Whitby and York. Spacious, comfortable, and beautifully presented: The Merchant House is a fantastically placed and well equipped house for families and friends to gather for relaxation, adventures, and exploration.
