What our customers say about their holidays
David - Verified booking
Reading the description, and seeing the pictures this would be a beautiful and perfect place, However.
... This is a house riddled with damp! Every external wall had signs of mould. In most cases this appears to have been cleaned up however in the small bedroom it had been ignored. When we first saw the mould on the wall alongside the bed, my wife wiped with her fingers and we both choked on the spores as they were disturbed. In the corners behind the bed the walls were black as was the upper corner around and behind the picture. With my grandchildren arriving in a few hours we decided to clean off the mould from the walls and move the bed away from the external wall. It took about 30 minutes to rid the room of the black spores but the house should never have been let out in this condition. There is nowhere on this review to show pictures but disgusting and unhealthy describe this adequately. In our pre-arrival brief, we were advised that "it is an old house" and " could get damp" therefore we were requested and (dutifully complied) to, run the fans after shower and open bedroom windows daily. This is probably the owners way of getting around this but showering and sleeping, is not the cause of the damp in this house. The underfloor heating is set on all day which compensated for this a bit and we left all the room doors open during our stay to allow air to circulate throughout the house. In the front double with the west facing side wall there were patches of what looked like slime on the wall. I didn't clean this off as it appeared to be bubbling the paint and was afraid that trying to remove this would take the paint off the wall. Mould on solid surfaces such as window frames can be easily removed but not sure if the cleaner even considers this, particularly as it looks like they never get cleaned. The shower has been removed from the main bathroom and this was not highlighted either by the owner or Sykes. With only one shower in a 4 bedroomed house to accommodate 7 guests there is quite a challenge in the morning with everyone queuing to use the only shower in the master bedroom en-suite. Had we known this, we would never have booked this house for our needs with 4 adults and 2 teenagers. In places, some aspects of the house cleaning is questionable. The marks and soiling in the microwave, plates in the cupboard , tea coffee & sugar canisters, and the greasy surface of the cooker hood made us question how much time is spent on preparation for guests. I'm 6'2" and the thick dust on the top of the washer in the downstairs closet caught my eye every time I went in there, not to mention the dead flies on the window cill. The brewery has been closed since last year and everything around is a mess with empty beer barrells strewn all over the place. The outside and back of the house area is a tip. There is a half full drum of CIP100 which is a very corrosive chemical sitting in front of the brewery. That needs to be disposed of by a specialist chemical disposal company and at least stored securely until then. If I apply the blinkers and ignore the above, this house is in a very peaceful location, has great interior space and an owner with impeccable taste for furnishings and interior design . The WiFi is great and is the only way to use your tech. If you want to get away from the world, there is no mobile signal from either EE, O2 or Vodafone at the house. It is with the blinkers removed that we feel compelled to say we could not recommend Hollins due to the damp and mould, only having one shower, the attention to preparation cleaning, and the untidy area around the brewery.

Arriving on Friday evening we were able to park right outside and easily get into the properly.
On entry to the hallway of the building, we were taken back by how well the old building has been restored. After making our way upstairs we were very pleased to see that all our needs were catered for. A delightful hallway for us to take off our boots and hang our jackets, before entering into the double height living space with original features (even the old dock) lovingly restored and modernised all of which are tastefully done. The kitchen is very well-equipped, if eating in you have absolutely everything you need. Once we have had gathered our bags, we explored the bedrooms, which I must say are a delight. Very luxurious and both with high spec ensuite facilities. The bed was very grand and comfortable with quality linens. Everything was very in keeping with the restoration of the old building but there are tasteful modern touches everywhere. From TVâs in living and sleeping areas to USB sockets for phone charging. Once we were settled we made the 2-minute walk into the centre of the village and had a couple of drinks, returning to eat at the lovely dining table. On the Saturday we walked out to the falls which is a quick jaunt down through the village before heading up on a very scenic walking route which bring you back down into the village enjoy one of the several pubs and good food establishments. Although we were rained on, we found getting back to the court house nice and easy as the hallway of both the main building and the hallway to the accommodation has matts and boot storage making it an easy and comfortable place to get back to. The building itself is stunning, inside and out. The scale of the place is magnificent. With the building being so solid there was no noise heard from the other spaces. We really got the feeling of complete comfort and privacy. It was great value for money given both the location and quality of the accommodation . 5+ stars. We will be booking another stay.

We recently enjoyed 5 days at the garden rooms and what a wonderful cottage it is.
The grounds and gardens are stunning and you feel like you are in a stately home gardens! The owners let you wander around these. The views are beautiful and itâs just so quiet and peaceful. The cottage has everything you need in there and the king size bed was so comfortable. The owners were lovely and provided milk, fruit, bread coffee and tea and other items which were very much appreciated. The Lewis and Cole toiletries were a lovely luxury. The cottage was situated in a beautiful area and we covered a lot of the Yorkshire dales and also went to the Lake District twice and was all easy to get to. We cannot fault this cottage and would one hundred percent recommend it to people. Only wish we could have stayed longer!! Thank you to the owners for letting us stay in your gorgeous cottage.

The Garden Rooms, Lawkland, Austwick, is a beautiful cottage with stunning gardens, surrounded by wonderful countryside and scenery.
It is perfectly placed for visiting places of interest, walking or just relaxing. We had a lovely surprise on arrival, to a lit log fire, milk, fruit, a fabulous baked loaf and freshly laid eggs, which were demolished for breakfast the following day!! The cottage is extremely well equipped and very comfortable, the perfect place for a tranquil and relaxing break, or a base for walking etc. There is a tennis court and racquets etc for your use, which we took advantage of, a variety of books and games for rainy days, which thankfully we didnât need as the weather was fine. There are tables and chairs outside for eating, drinking or just taking in the beautiful gardens. All in all it was a perfect break and many thanks to our host, Nicky who was very helpful and made us extremely welcome.

We recently stayed at this wonderful holiday cottage as a family, and we couldnât be more thrilled with the experience.
From the moment we arrived, it was clear that everything in the cottage was brand new and meticulously clean. The attention to detail in the decor and furnishings made it feel like a true home away from home. The location is absolutely perfect for anyone wanting to explore the Ingleton Falls walk. We loved being able to start our hike just minutes from the cottage, making it easy to enjoy the breathtaking scenery without the hassle of a long drive. Beth and her husband went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed, offering great tips about the local area, where to eat and making sure our stay was as comfortable as possible. I canât recommend this place enough for anyone looking to unwind and enjoy the natural beauty of the area! Thank you so much!
