What our customers say about their holidays

We struggled to find the cottage (the Post Office Lady helped) and were a little shocked at how tight the small entrance road is to the courtyard for unloading/re-loading.
Once in the cottage, we did find downstairs a little cosy, especially the kitchen and the dishwasher in the garage is a bit of a chore. The front door allows cold drafts into the lounge and could do with sorting out somehow. Upstairs is an absolute delight; with a lovely main bedroom with wonderful views and lots of space between all the bedrooms. One gripe, is the large window in the master bedroom, which has curtain dressings that let the morning light in, so if staying anytime other than the winter, you'd be woken up by the rising sun very early! The extra blinds at the windows need replacing (one missing, one broken), so it would be thoughtful to get some black-out blinds up, or line the curtains with black-out fabric: No-one wants to lose sleep on holiday! The bed is very comfortable. It has to be one of the most peaceful stays we have ever had: Away from traffic noise is a blessing. The garden has lovely views, but we did miss out on some warm, afternoon sun (when it was out) coming into the garden as the neighbours have their trees very high. It is a holiday cottage that made for a lovely, quiet break, but that break did end on a sour note, as during the last evening's stay, the cottage lost its wifi signal and that meant we couldn't operate the central heating and as it had been a very wet September day/night, we were very cold and went to bed unhappy to be. We spent the evening trying to contact the Caretaker; leaving numerous messages, which came to absolute nothing: We wondered if he actually existed?! This was unacceptable and something that needs investigating.

The cottage location was idyllic and perfect as a base for dog walking.
We found it very clean and the wine and biscuits awaiting us on arrival were a very welcome and enjoyable surprise. Appreciated also was the ample supply of logs and coal for the fire, though kindling was sparse (with no backup). And while the owners welcomed âtwo well behaved dogsâ and we received strict rules on dogs in the cottage the owners contacted us while on holiday as they were surprised to see we had dogs (just two). Sykes apparently didnât tell them we were bringing dogs but did they need to? The owners welcomed two well behaved dogs⦠apparently. Something of concern was a slippery shower floor and the shower lacked anywhere to put soap, shampoo etc. Lacking in the bedroom was a clock or radio though I appreciate this may not be important for many. I think a shame was nondescript supermarket art on the walls rather that any beautiful scenes of the dales and the local pub was a huge let down. It did not allow dogs and was crying out for a new owner. The hideous electric âwood burnerâ just one of many likely reasons why the pub was all but empty every night (not representative of the area). There is the CB Inn a ten minute walk from the cottage but this was a restaurant that sold drinks rather than a pub that served food. They did though welcome dogs and had a real fire (and unlike the Red Lion, was busy). In short the cottage was okay (for two), the location was great and the local pub utterly dismal. Beware also, in a very small village like this, you might get the feeling you are being spied on.

A fabulous cosy cottage-itâs definitely the best weâve been to so far.
Loved the furnishings and itâs obvious a lot of care has been taken to make it so welcoming -thanks for the wine and biscuits too. Location is ideal with fields outside the front door to walk our dogs. The Red Lion pub is an absolute gem. Great beer, warm and a lovely landlady who had so many interesting tales to share. She was a pleasure to talk to on quieter nights. They donât do meals anymore but do offer crisps and sweet treats. The cottage had ample hot water, heated towel rail in the bathroom much appreciated and the heating kept us cosy and warm. We loved the wood burner and were impressed with the supplies of wood and coal too. The only thing that would make it better is a washing machine-I was not planning to do laundry on holiday but sometimes situations arise and the facility would have made life easier. Not the end of the world obviously but maybe something to consider when the barn next door is developed. We will definitely be back

We had an excellent stay with my parents, an 18 month old little girl and my parents Labrador.
We were visiting my parents in Lincolnshire from Australia where we live now. We stayed for 2 nights and it was exactly what we were looking for. The place is very clean, easy to move around with a dog and a toddler!. We cooked each evening in and had great meals in the lounge. The lounge is very cosy. We stayed in mid 30 degree summer heat but it would be amazing for a winter break too. The flag was cool with the windows open. We had sundowners on the green just outside the flat. Easy access to all amenities - post office across the road and 3 pubs and a great ice cream shop within 5 mins walks. Great place to locate yourself for access to the dales. V good amenities for dogs. The garden is great which is a short walk around the corner outside. Tracey was very communicative and an excellent host - even sending our little girls toy rabbit to us after leaving it there!! Would highly recommend!!

The owner Tracy was very welcoming and especially helpful and friendly, helping us carry our stuff in from the car on arrival, and providing info as needed .
The apartment is compact, like the usual holiday cottage or apartment in the Dales. It opens directly onto Reethâs central square and is perhaps 100 m or so from the shop and post office, a little further from the pubs and restaurants- so the location is excellent. The apartmentâs kitchen is particularly well equipped. There is a large and very comfy leather lounge settee, good tv, woodburner and an adequate dining table for 4. The decor is pleasant. The beds are very comfortable and the shower and bath are great. The stairs up to the apartment are a bit narrow and steep as expected. Our dogs were kept out of the bedrooms and off the furniture. There is a choice of parking options. We had a fabulous 8-day stay in Reeth and our accommodation was a major part of that. We highly recommend No. 4 Alpine Cottages
