What our customers say about their holidays

On arrival there wasnât even a pint of milk for a coffee.
When we went upstairs on the first corner step it threw you off balance and into the corner- we think the step is broken. The bed nearest the window was like sleeping in a crisp packet because of the mattress protector it crackled every time you moved and thereâs black mould and torn paper underneath the window in the bedroom. Polystyrene tiles on the ceiling in the downstairs loo and boiler room, the door to the boiler room would not close so this could not contain a fire. Thereâs no warning sign in place to for the boiler room because as you go through you step up and my husband who is only 5â7â banged his head with some force the first time he went through. The extractor in the bathroom didnât work and only one light worked in there. There were 6 empty air fresheners doted around the property 4 of which were placed like ornaments on the shelving in the dining area. We know itâs an old property but it could be beautiful and thereâs so much wasted space, itâs all worn and very dated. We love the area and as you are aware normally love where we stay but we will be much more careful picking our next accommodation. We are aware that we could have contacted the Keswick office regarding these issues but we did not want to wait in for someone to come and we did not want a stranger in while we were out. The property should have been checked thoroughly before we arrived.

Lovely house and lovely area.
We arrived on the Monday we had that sigh of relief you have when you arrive at a strange location youâve booked online, when you drive through the local area. Town of Penrith was on the door step and the villlage the house is located is somewhere you can walk through at night without fear. Virtually crime free. The house is located next to the river which gave a nice relaxing sound when you sleep. No need for Alexa to play relaxing sounds! The house is beautiful. We brought everything we need from tea towels to Salt and pepper but there is no need as the owners had stocked the house with all the essentials, even a welcome basket. Kitchen is a huge cooking and social area with a kitchen island and massive fridge/freezer. To our delight, we forgot to bring ice however the fridge dispenser had an ice option ( took the heat off me!). Living room comfy with electric fire place and the bedrooms where well set up with plenty of places for guests. The garden is fully sealed in for the dog to run around with no worries. We had a brilliant week at Mill end house. Top tip, try the crown pub in the village. Michael the landlord is a great character and does a mixture of English and Thai food. My only negative ( and this negative is only small) the pillows were a little bulky and hard. We would book again and bring those with us.

Where to start with this property it was incredible.
I almost don't want to tell people how good it is lol. The house was absolutely spotless, the cleanest place I've ever stayed. The house is decorated to a very high standard and not a scuff or mark on any of the walls. Soo many glasses (great choice) and mugs, plates etc. I spent alot of time in the kitchen it's absolutely stunning. This property had so many tvs as well, not that i personally watched anything. Sofas are so comfy and soo much room. Beds were very very comfy, if I had to say one negative thing the pillows are a bit firm and uncomfortable but that's minor. The garden is so beautiful and to hear the river was just heaven. Mill End really is such a special place that I've fallen in love with. All very secure for our dog as well. The owners Trev and Heidi are really lovely and helpful and friendly. Although they live across from the property you don't feel like they are on top of you like I've felt in pervious holiday homes. I can not wait to come back, I was really sad to leave, it's deffo stolen a piece of my heart. Thank you ever so much and we will see yous again xx

This property was easy to find and easy to park which is always a bonus in the lakes.
Its an old cottage which has been modernised to a good standard. We loved the fresh milk, nice tea brands, wine and cookies provided by the owner. Loads of bedding and towels provided. All useful as it rained a lot! Bathroom was nice and warm useful when you get in cold from a long walk. Penrith is close by so easy to buy in food supplies. Lovely walks and bike rides from the house. Pooley Bridge well worth a visit. Friendly local folk and nice local pub were all the benefits. The only things outstanding were small bits of maintenance like the light in the electric fire not working, the place was cold and smelt a bit damp the day we arrived (24 hours with the heating on sorted it out and its an old property so to be expected) . A couple of plug sockets in the big bedroom not working properly (funny clicking noise when i plugged in my computer cable which was fine in other sockets). When you open the fridge door it crashes into the wall clock. None of these a deterrent and I'd stay again happily.

We had a couple of issues at the time of year we went.
The first was that bringing the sheep down close to the house meant the house was full of flies. I mean, so many flies :( This can be avoided by not going in the height of summer I guess!) Secondly, the garden is NOT dog-proof. If you have a dog who likes to escape then there are a ton of holes (evidenced by waking up to sheep in the garden!). This meant we had an anxious week worrying our dog would escape into the sheep field and cause issues. In the end, we kept him on a lead all week, but still, not good and much of a worry to my mum. The beds were wonderful, the house itself was lovely, and the location was perfect. I just can't in all conscience give the place a 5 given the flies but most importantly the fact that we booked this place as a dog-friendly venue. I would recommend maybe a non-summer stay... maybe when there are no sheep, and maybe without bringing the dog.
