What our customers say about their holidays

Keepers Cottage is a lovely quirky cottage set on the hillside near Nenthead.
The views from the sun room are wonderful during the day with copious amounts of birds visiting the well stocked bird feeders right outside of the window. You will also see a red squirrel visiting the feeders as well as a woodpecker. The sheep on the hillside in front of you are fun to watch as well as the rabbits. The sunsets at night are also gorgeous and itâs hard to tear yourself away from the peace and tranquility of such a lovely place. We loved our time at Keepers and would highly recommend it. The hosts are so friendly and helpful, meeting us on our arrival and showing us around. We were also welcomed with homemade scones and free range eggs, Yummy! We must say the hosts were the most friendliest people we have encountered on our stays within the 30 plus cottages we have holidayed in. The Pennies are an outstanding source of beauty with quaint little villages scattered around, well worth a visit. We enjoyed visits to Barnard Castle, Hexham and Carlisle. Alston have a lovely railway which meanders through the countryside. Lots of things to see and do with plenty of lovely walks. We would highly recommend staying here and visiting the beautiful areas of the North. You wonât meet more friendlier people than the Northerners!

Title: The Lake Districts Bolthole Location: High Wreah Bolt Hole is perfectly located, and I found it to be an ideal base for exploring the area, with numerous picturesque spots just a short distance away.
Amenities: The bolthole itself is well-equipped with all the modern conveniences you could need. The kitchen is fully stocked, making it easy to prepare meals, and the living area is cozy and comfortable, perfect for relaxing after a day of adventure. The bed was incredibly comfortable, ensuring a good nightâs sleep. Experience: Absolutely nothing to complain about. My stay was nothing short of wonderful. The hosts were incredibly accommodating and at the start of the break, even provided a rescue service, after I had got lost when my Satnav sent me to the wrong address Highlights: One of the standout features of High Wreah, is its proximity to some of the Lake Districtâs most famous attractions. Buttermere, Wasdale and Keswick are only a 40 minute drive, with plenty of photographic opportunities along the way. Additionally, the peaceful and tranquil setting of the cabin made it a perfect retreat from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Improvements: The tv signal was a bit spotty at times. However, this minor inconvenience did not detract from our overall experience. Overall, I highly recommend High Wreah Bolt Hoke to anyone looking for a relaxing and memorable stay in the Lake District.

At first sight the property creates a good impression.
It is well decorated and very clean although there was a strong smell of dog in the lounge which we found to be very unpleasant. Unfortunately the cottage is completely unsuitable for elderly visitors and I will explain why I have arrived at this conclusion. The sofa is unusable as it is too low and has no back support. My wife was unable to extricate herself from its grip without assistance from me. The only practical solution was to move the dining room chairs into the lounge but they are uncomfortable when used for extended periods. While on the subject of the lounge there is a very serious trip hazard in that the broadband hub and trailing wires are located in a narrow corridor between the sofa and the wall. Also the television is far too large for the size of the lounge to the point where it is impossible to view the whole image. With regard to equipment there is no non-slip mat for the bath/shower which made using the shower very dangerous with a high risk of slipping. Also there is no shaver/toothbrush charging point in the bathroom and we were unable to find an adapter plug so we had to buy one. In conclusion our stay was very uncomfortable and we would not stay here again

Loverly little place nice and cozy can't fault the owners or cleanliness of the place at all all it was very nice I think the listings photos were a little deceptive making it look like the building was on its own somewhere on a road its not its on farmland with a house right opposite the property and a holiday caravan and the owners home next to it There's no oven in the kitchen so if you want to cook a meal it's micro wave or bedsit style hot plate and the fire isn't an open one or woodburner despite the pokers and bucket of coal in the photos its electric To add You would be way too hot with a real fire the place had an electric radiator and was allways warm it was just something I was looking forward to in my stay and thought this had it Only real issues with the place is the bathroom is tiny if your a big person 6ft its very hard to use the shower the cubical is tiny As an idea of space you can use the bathroom sink and open shower cubicle sitting on the toilet And climbing a ladder to bed is not really as much fun as you remember as a teenager when your nearly 50 Wouldent stop me coming back though I enjoyed my stay overall

We had such a lovely 4 day stay here, upon booking via the Original Cottages website I asked on the special requests if they could do anything to make it special as it was my partners birthday, there was a birthday card with a bottle of prosecco and little bottle of local gin with glasses ready for us on arrival which was so lovely of them! The property was spotless and had all the utensils we needed to cook our meals as being self-catering during this pandemic was important. The outside seating area is lovely to enjoy the last bit of sunshine in the evening and the bed was really comfy too which is always needed after a long day out walking. We could not have picked a better property to stay in and the location was great too, we travelled to lots of different areas from where we was staying and it was initially easy to find upon arrival on the directions provided. Also the car was parked right outside the door so it was easy for us to carry our belongings in and knowing we had a allocated parking space. Highly recommend this to anyone who is considering staying in the Lake District. Amazing weekend!
